These days, tracking cookies strongly resemble boot-sector viruses. They store backups in javascript objects in cache as well as encoding themselves into URLs that somehow get autorun at browser startup and a few other things. It's pretty alarming.

To be honest, your best bet is to disable flash too. There's not really any reason to use it anymore, and if it's enabled, they can track you using your system fonts. If you want some spoopyness, read up on 'Supercookies' and 'evercookie'
