is there a generally agreed upon "best" less expensive AR variant, or other modern sporting rifle? I hear the ruger 556 is a great entry into this class, but are there any others? Looking to stay under or around $600 USD, but I can't put off buying one any longer. god knows they will probably be illegal soon enough.

I already own a remington 1911, a magnum express 12 gauge, and .303 Lee-Enfield (1946, iirc)

save $200 more and buy a Colt 6920
>>
>>30798018
No, do not do this.

Get a Bushy. Get a M&P. Get a Ruger.
Don't get a colt though.
>>
>>30798030

If you were worried about ARs being banned, why would you waste your money on a piece of shit like bushmaster?
>>
>>30798042
Not Op but, I've had my bushmaster for 1.5 years and havn't had an issue. Not 1 jam with over 1000 rounds through it.

I'm sure tens of thousands of others can say the exact same thing.
>>
OP here, it sounds like Ruger is an OK buy. Yeah?
>>
>>30798077
Yeah, same with every other brand basically.

You could save up just a little and get something with a free float rail. It will save alot of trouble if you plan on modifying it later.

Or you could just build one ya know?
>>
>>30798077

If you thought AR15s would be illegal why buy a cheap one? Why not get a Colt or something well made so that way it will last for a long time? You can buy whatever you want but the Colt or even a decent quality FN would be a better choice (although I don't know how good the new FN ars are).
>>
>>30798006

just build

>muh cost of tools

tools cost about $80, and its not like you wont find a use for punches and a vice after you build your AR

>>30798064

>no failures after 100 rounds
>implying 1000 rounds is anything at all
>only shooting 1000 rounds in a year and a half

OP, only the lower receiver of an AR is legally considered "the gun." Buy a fuckload of lowers if you're concerned about them being banned later. The government has absolutely no ability to ban parts or ammunition, whether at the state or federal level.

Field and Stream has the Ruger 556 on sale right now for 599. So if you want it, now is the time to get it.

Personally Im planning on getting more stripped lowers and then putting them together as I have spare cash.
Its easier for me to put out around 200 for 3 lowers all at once and build them as stuff comes on sale.

>The government has absolutely no ability to ban parts or ammunition, whether at the state or federal level.

For now, if it is fucked up enough to ban semi autos in MA you can bet that is next. When Brady Bill 2 was proposed certain gun parts were also considered guns themselves.
>>
>>30798141
Gun parts without serial numbers are not guns, and the NRA will kick their shit in if they try to change that at the federal level.
>>
>>30798159

it has been attempted before and will be attempted again. Once Antis get ARs they will go after the parts next, why do you think CA is making home gunsmithing require serial numbers and tried to make gun parts have serial numbers?

Well tell me trash man how are the recent ones? I don't own one of their new production rifles.

There are a few reasons, but it boils down to "anti-gun politicians don't get voted out of office or killed."
>>
>>30798183
No idea. I don't own one.
Reviews seem to be pretty good though.

>>30798064
I catch a lot of flack for my Bushmaster Carbon 15 but it's been a flawless weapon and cost $450.

That's a funny way to spell Windham Weaponry anon.

huh didnt know ants could buy guns

It helps a lot when attaching the barrel.
I'm sure you could get by without but it would save a decent amount of hassle.
>>
>>30798217
>reviews

There are none of the FNs... I can only find an unboxing video and one of some guys shooting and not saying anything. I'm considering one but want to know if it justifies the $200 extra over an m&p sport.
>>
>>30798115
1000 rounds in a day means it's a quality rifle. 1000 rounds over a year and a half while being cleaned regularly, it's nothing. Come back when you've shot the barrel out.
>>
>>30798521
>1000 rounds in a day means it's a quality rifle.

Yeah, no. Nobody fucking runs 1000 rounds just to see if its reliable. Maybe youtube channels with a gun a company sent them will.
No normal gun owner does this.
>>
>>30798572
>no normal gun owner does this
A) exactly
B) are you lost?
>>

>>30798411

>exactly

I have no idea what the fuck you even want.

You say 1000 rounds in a day, uncleaned, with the barrel shot out is a quality rifle.

Gun makers dont make guns to have mags dumped through them all day, dropped in the mud and shoved full of snow, only to have more rounds pushed through it.

A quality rifle is a gun that can, if properly maintained, function flawlessly.

I said come back to me when the barrel is shot out. If you weren't such a fucking casual you would know that could mean 3k rounds or 25k rounds. I'll give you a hint, shitty guns are closer to 3k rounds than 25k rounds.
>>
>>30798702
>the barrel has to have, on average, 10k rounds shot through it to see if its can have the title of "quality"

Fuck off
>>
>>30798656
>You say 1000 rounds in a day, uncleaned, with the barrel shot out is a quality rifle.
You're retarded. 1000 rounds in a day is a decent training course. You aren't mag dumping either, but it is a constant rate of fire all day. Something a reliable gun should handle no problem.
>Gun makers dont make guns to have mags dumped through them all day, dropped in the mud and shoved full of snow, only to have more rounds pushed through it.
Wrong. That's exactly what military rifles like the M4 is made for. If you're buying a copy of an M4 then it should work like one.
