Was there ever a better fighting knife than a bowie?

Yes, it's called a dagger.

Smatchet isn't a bad combat knife, but it's not as purpose built as a dagger.

It wasn't though.
It was also designed as a utility knife, largely because many dumb shits used their fighting daggers as utility knives.

well he is right, though

Traditional tanto, daggers, bayonet knives, and double-edged karambits are better in trained hands, imo.
Bowie to me was always a big hunting knife more-so than a knife for combat.
Fairbairn-Sykes anyone?
>>30797709
It was also neither a very good dagger nor a good utility knife, which is why nobody's fucking using them any more.

Tantos don't have a handguards.
Bayonets are, well, bayonets and have slightly different needs (they don't need to be balanced very well, for example).
Karambits are mostly easily concealable (which has its purpose for some things of course) but short.
Daggers are the traditional pure fighting "knife" used by people almost everywhere. Guess there's a reason for that.

A grosse messer.
"Honest, m'lord, it's not a sword, it's just a two and a half foot long knife."

Wanna bet your rib cage against that?
in the right hands one of these has proven to be very effective in a fight

No thanks, that's just as much of a meme as a karambit
>>30798325
you are arguing that this item has not been used effectively in a fight? you are a fucking retard my boy
>>30798340
I'm sure it's just as nasty as a machete for chopping people up
I wouldn't want to get into a knife fight with someone with a pointy stabby stabby like

Made with concealable properties in mind. Too small to be good.

Gr8 knife /k/

Machetes are lighter, longer, faster.
A machete with a point would make a better weapon than a fighting knife. But I would feel better equipped with a long dagger or short sword, such as a kindjal or gladius, or a large bowie, because hacking is done much better with an axe and the ease of penetration is much better against someone wearing thick clothing or a loaded chest rig.
For concealable blades, a push dagger can't be at for JUST stabbing someone's shit up quickly with minimal possibility of a disarm. Seems much better than a karambit.
You're all arguing the wrong points; It has much less to do with the design of the knife and more to do with the skill and experience of the person wielding it.
Pretty much everything posted so far in this thread has merits as a possible "hurr durr best fighting knife". You fags will never agree on a final answer.
