Not OP, but I could imagine add-on plates containing engravings adding weight that could compromise handling or functionality (especially since gold really fucking dense), or having parts made of said precious metals having structural issues.

All they do is plate the frame and slide with a precious metal, swap out things like grips and sights, and possibly engrave as well.

gold is not dense enough to make a massive difference, it will literally be unnoticable difference, and 9 times out of ten gold inlays are just heavy plating. the sldies and triggers and shit are plated every time, gold is soft so you cant make parts out of it that have to touch other metal or hold any kind of load. its all just engraving and plating my man. source: im an engraver.

What you see here is a bog standard 1911 that they polished up, nickel plated the frame, and gold plated the slide / trigger parts. It's all steel underneath, and the bling is literally skin deep. It doesn't affect the function of the gun in any way.

They look pretty to display, and are a bitch to clean if you ever decide to shoot it. Bore cleaner can actually take off the plating if you're not careful. If it's TiN plated, you don't have to worry about it coming off.

That said if you can afford it, this is america, why not?

You make it sound like gold playing means actually sucking plates of gold onto the metal. It's just a really thin layer, 100 microns is an absolute maximum, usually it's more about 20 microns or less, so it doesn't really change anything.
