Was there any way the iraqis could have held out?
>>
>>30785831
If they couldn't hold out in 1991.

The fuck makes you think after 12 years of economic stagnation and infrastructure rebuilding they could've held out again.

Retreat all forces into the cities. Americans can't into urban warfare.

If an military literally destroys every worthwhile asset you have overnight and are rolling tanks in your capital city within a week; yeah, they didn't hold out you retard.

The insurgency afterwards was not a military victory. 3/4 of the people fighting against the coalition in Iraq were not Iraqis you scrub.

Iraq fell in literally hours, then we baited every jihadi we could from the region into the country so we could kill as many as possible. Then politics took over like every occupation and we stuck around policing and getting hit and run for years.

Let's not pretend the US has gone total war since WW2, because they haven't.

Well you're wrong!
Those cities would have been renovated into dead nigger storage quicker than you can snackbar.

Lets go!
>>
>>30785831

Yes. If they were somebody else, somewhere else, at a different time.
>>
>>30785965

Er... That's exactly what they did in 2003 and they got their shit kicked in.

The only hope Iraq had in 2003 was a bloody initial battle to hopefully make a Coalition that had limited public support for war and was squeamish about casualties wobble and backtrack. They should have massed all their military in deep defence immediately around the Kuwaiti border then launched a massive artillery strike the instant it hit midnight on D-Day. Like North Korea bombarding Seoul it would result in the military getting destroyed shortly afterwards, but that's what happened anyway and this way you get horrified newspapers about Coalition deaths the next day which turn an already-reluctant public off altogether.
>>
>>30785831
They might have lasted longer if Saddam hadn't ordered his airforce to bury their best fighters out in the desert.

Problem is by 2003 the use of satellites and limited use of drones for real time intelligence was already in swing. If they massed units near the border we would have had air on them like flies on shit before they could launch anything coordinated. I'll agree though, that's about the only chance in hell they could have had.

Thing is, despite their popular coverage in the Gulf War, we kicked their shit in using a majority dumb fire ordnance, lots left over from Vietnam. Iraqis didn't progress much at all technologically from that time, they didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell against the shit we brought to bear in 2003.

They got fucked without a hope because Russia was not giving them tech support once the conflict started.

Lesson: If you buy jets, buy people smart enough to manage them too.

>>
>>30788899
One of the main reasons that the RAF and USAAF, though mainly the former as they had a better idea of what the Soviets were capable of due to their observations during the Russian revolution, partition of Iran between the two and British raids into the Balkans, raided German cities in the East was to show the Soviets how much air power and bombing capacity they had.

I was too young to remember 9/11 (inb4 >undeage b&, people who were three when 9/11 happened are 18 now), but I do remember pretty vividly the start of the Iraq war, school never shut up about it either and we always had to make stuff for the troops. It's actually pretty crazy, looking back, that I grew up during such a crazy and turbulent time.

We weren't making them new BDUs or anything. We made them crappy little Christmas cards and stuff. Especially from 2003-06, we usually made cards and care packages for the major holidays.

What you described was literally their battle plan during the Desert Storm. It failed miserably because...

A) No air support

B) No recon meant they couldn't actually see what they were shooting at, and thus hit nothing.

C) Were outgunned by the Coalition on the ground and in the air.

If they got their shit kicked in then, they were gonna get their shit kicked in 11 years later doing the same thing with less combat power.
