I am currently stationed far away from home and I dont want to bring my AR to my base because I like to use it every time I go on leave (twice a year kek) and I dont want to deal with all the transfer and shipping bullshit. I currently own a glock 17 but I really want to own something more.. special around here. Seeing that the ak-74 is "similar" to the AR I think an ak-47 platform would be a better choice, especially since I want to learn a new system.

I'd go for 7.62x39 over 5.45. After watching what happened to 7.62x54r recently I'm really apprehensive about getting a gun in a caliber that isn't widespread enough to have something cheap like Tulammo on Walmart shelves.
