Hoping to enlist in the Army as 37F, Psychological Operations Specialist.

Is there anything I should know beforehand?

Doing it because it seems pragmatic, not because "lol PSYOPS"
>>

Hello I am a PSYOP NCO. First off there is no S at the end.
here is a list of things you need to be able to do to be a PSYOPer.
>talk to people
A large part of my job involves walking up to people I dont know and talk to them to either convince them we are the good guys or learn whats going on in the area that I can exploit. I also have to convince Infantry commanders that I am an asset and that I should be used.
>switch from making friends to killing people.
We are riflemen first. Yeah we "sell America" but we also mke it easier for the Infantry to kill more bad guys. This makes us a target for bad guys. We are also expected to do everything our supported unit is doing, including attacks and ambushes.
>be able to ruck march
on a dismounted combat patrol YOU WILL be rucking while everyone else is just walking with guns and armor on. Why? Because we take a loudspeaker everywhere, its our weaponsystem

How intensive is the language training? I read it was four weeks iirc. Do they just give you a base understanding of Farsi? Was it enough for you to be able to hold coherent conversation with people?

Im reserve so I didnt do language. But those that do get it generally speak it semi-fluently.
The language you get will depend on what your test scores are and what you want.
Are you currently on active duty?

>>
>>30774970
Another question, this one is probably pretty stupid...

Have you ever had to barter with someone to get information? Like give them a small amount of money or a pack of cigarettes or something, or do you not do that?

I just see myself saying something like "hey man, here's a cigarette.... can you tell me where X is or if you've seen X?"

Maybe I'm disillusioned about the whole thing, but I'm sure they'd be happy to smoke a real Marlboro or something, if they don't outright want to kill you.
>>
>>30774737
>Doing it because it seems pragmatic, not because "lol PSYOPS"
Bull shit that's exactly why you're doing it.
>>
>>30775041
Nah man, I'm currently in the very beginning process of becoming enlisted. I know jack shit about jack shit, so I made this thread. The website said I qualified for it, so I started filling the shit out. I looked at it and it said it wasn't entry level, so I'll do whatever I have to to get there.

Sort of. We hand out stuff all the time for that very reason. I used to pass out cigarrettes and lighters to establish raport and help with gaining trust to build relationships I can exploit.
>>30775062
if you want to start as PSYOP you will have to go reserve first. You can go active duty from there, but there is a selection process. But we do have plenty of language slots and airborne slots to send you (but always get airborne inyour contract).

one part of our many jobs. Thats like saying the only thing the infantry does is in Iraq is shoot dogs

So... are PSYOPS dude legit evil genius-tier masters of manipulation and thought control, or a bunch of nerds trying to out-edge each other?
>>
>>30775107
>or a bunch of nerds trying to out-edge each other?
I imagine it like the networking yuppies at a tech conference. A bunch of people going around handing out business cards pretending to be your friend so they can get 'contacts'.

Except that I guess you log your contacts and maybe ask them if any jyhadists are around.

>>30775041

Isn't ever going to be anything other than farsi, arabic or maybe pashto for a change?

I'm guessing it's a real pain the ass. Considering how you perform functions equivalent to political commissar and as such are detriment to unit's combat capabilty.

Can you talk about some top secret experiments you have got going on? Do you have any former Nazi scientists working for you?
>>
>>30775884
You said earlier you wanted to know if any jihadists are around,

What makes a jihadist a jihadist? Am I at risk of becoming one? (Feel free to evaluate me) how can you tell if a rifleman is becoming a jihadist?

Why is anwar alwalaki a source of radicalization in most US Isis cases? He doesn't seem that radical to me.

Lastly what's the difference between fundamentalist Islam and radical Islam?
>>
>>30775942
The last of the nazi scientists were deported a couple of years ago they were receiving SSI checks over seas.
>>
Is psyop stuff mostly an american thing? Long shot but do your allies like uk, au, and nz do that stuff or are they too small to consider doing those things?

>>30775952
could you please just shoot yourself already
>>
>>30775910
Another PSYOPer told him so.
>>
>>30775984
Basically all countries do it. Even small ones countries Denmark, Netherlands and Sweden have psyop units in their foreign deployments. The US more than others because of the heavy presence abroad.
>>
>>30775910
Because that is the side that I am on. Very simple. Were I on another side, that would be the good one.
>>30775911
Yes. On active you must go to selection and reclass.
>>30775945
I said bad guys. Never said jihadi. But pretty much, anyone who intentionally kills children is a bad guy.
But with fundamentalism and radicalism, those are just terms the media and political people kick out. To me on the ground its just good guys and bad guys or "the enemy" because it is simple.

>>30775984
Every country had PSYOP and even the Taliban and ISIS have a version of it.
>>30775997
Nope. Because I love my country, even when the President is an idiot.
>>
>>30776086
>Isis has a version of PSYOPs

What is kufr bit taghoot?

Even so it doesn't justify killing civilians.

So your loyalties rest with whatever side you're on? How does that make any sense? If America is the good guy I wanna know why their the good guys. Why is Assad still in power? Why does America prop up puppet dictators and elected officials? If democracy is as great as people make it out to be why is globalism becoming more and more paramount?

Thanks for answering my question.

The one I really want answered is why are you a good guy?
>>
>>30776130
"good guy" is a relative term. Is your side the good guy? Assuming you have a side. Where we (Americans) try to limit civilian casualties, the enemy (ex ISIS) target them on purpose.
>>
>>30776130
>why is assad still in power

>>
>>30775103
>Thats like saying the only thing the infantry does is in Iraq is shoot dogs

based
>>
>>30776326
you are thinking critically, keep doing that.
>>
>>30776588
Critical thinking is basic, the flaws of various Islamists groups are that they aren't open to peaceful negotiations and the ones that are (Taliban) happen to be negotiating with the enemy rather than negotiating peace with the occupiers, as a result they're losing their country to boy fuckers just because said boyfuckers helped fight them and their not winning hearts and minds that's what this entire war on terror is about, hearts and minds. The Taliban don't seem that effective at it yet some how their gaining ground. I simply don't understand their tactics/ reasoning we've been occupying their country for 15 years and yet now they allegedly have more ground than before our occupation yet aren't willing to go to the peace negotiations talks, it doesn't make sense that they aren't compromising when their nationalistic and not globalist. More over if they wanted shariah for Afghanistan it would have been easier to go to the peace talks and be realistic about the current situation.

AQ On the other hand is losing support globally as more and more groups are disassociating themselves with the terrorist group. More over they aren't putting out good propaganda, I've seen their training videos and speeches and its only mildly effective, they have some talking points but it doesn't and can't justify 9/11.

As for Isis they have a good idea of a chaliphate but their issue is that they keep exporting terror when that's A not effective at changing policies and B a waste of human life. The battle of hearts and minds isn't one that is constantly involved in the killing of others in retaliation for the injustices committed against you. Rather it is one of patience and preservercence in the face of calamity.

As for the US their foreign policy effects the Muslim world in a way that doesn't effect any other nation or power in the world as such I fail to see how they operate as "good guys" they should simply operate as mercenaries.
>>
>>30776711
critically thinking buddy, you're going off what they told you and not why they told you it, and really haven't given much reflection into what you think they're not telling you.
>>
>>30776711
The caliphate is not a "good idea" unless you are a muslim.

Bit of an interesting and semi-relevant read:
http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/documents/bosleslr/bosleslr.htm

>It is not only the Dayton experience that has proven valuable for Russia. In May, an article appeared in the Russian paper Nezavisimaya Gazeta (Independent Newspaper) that highly rated the use of U.S. psychological operations forces in Bosnia. The article drew three conclusions: first that peace is being managed "largely thanks to the efforts of the PSYOPS specialists" in spite of the fact that the peace plan is so complex, that plans for weapons surrender and prisoner of war exchanges have not been completely implemented, and in spite of the presence of Mujaheddin mercenaries who fought on the side of the Muslims; second, the PSYOP staff permits them to effectively "react to the developing situation and to change the direction of the information psychological influence" (the Americans are already beginning to gradually prepare public opinion for the fact that the one year that was allotted by the Dayton accords may not be enough); and finally, these efforts have exposed Russia's inability to use such levers of influence on public opinion.
>>
>>30778910
We cant lie when putting out information. So we couldnt say group A killed good guy B when it didnt happen. Its a credibility thing. But we can decieve, like we can make it sound like there are tanks moving toward you.
It is illegal for me to use PSYOP on US forces or Us civilians. I also dont deal with PTSD or mental issues.

Yes!!!! We even have a special course on it. Ive done it a handful of times real world. Basically as a PSYOPer you can do whatever you want so long as you can justify it and articulate how it will hep the unit you are supporting. The lame part is a lot of PSYOPers are lazy or want to be combat tourists so they give us a bad name.
>>30780702
there is a big rivalry between us.
Basically if a local knows you are PSYOP you are not good at your job. Plus we have the same patch.
Combat arms are EXTREMELY helpfuL to have as PSYOP. Basically when you get attached to a line unit you are expected to do everything they do, plus your job Think combat medic, except PSYOP.
>>
I want to learn about elite PSYOP tactics and have a few questions:
1: how difficult is it to intercept enemy radio communications? how much over-the-phone dissing is needed to break an enemy commander's will and force a surrender?
2: is calling the enemy's mom a whore a no-go?
3: on average, how many brojobs are required a month to maintain a battalion's morale? how common is it to be in the barrel?
4: are arabs actually capable of rational thought or is just a myth
5: is playing 80's power metal over the loudspeaker to raise midcombat hype against protocol?
6: is playing Death Grips over the loudspeaker to terrify and confuse the enemy with unfamiliar Western music against protocol as well?
7: is playing Wandering Soul over the loudspeaker still a legitimate tactic? can the hadjis understand Vietnamese?

1 it depends on the general.
2 that is a go. Its called "tactical call out"
3 thats the Navy I am Army.
4 Yes they can and do, but keep in mind if you live in a place thats hot sandy and people try to blow you up, someone giving you a Rolex might turn you into a terrorist too.
5 I do that as often as I can. I justify it by saying its to degrade the enemy morale
6 thats another morale degrade tactic, its still used.
7 Arabs dont understand the language, but if we went back to Nam we woukd use that again

all of our broadcasts, leaflets, and "PSY-acts" are all thought out and planned. We never do anything "just because." Sometimes blaring Pantera is the roght thing to do, sometimes its calling someones mom a goat fucker. We are only limited by our imagination and ability to justify our actions (often times after word gets back to higher). Kts a lot of fun, hard work, but FUN.
