So I have decided to Get a Semi-Auto Rifle in .308 and Seeing as the SCAR SSR is in the wind at the moment I am on the fence on weather or not to get a SCAR-H Or Just an AR-10. It's not going to be used for CQB activities I will probably end up putting a Vortex PST FFP on it but for the most part it will only be a 25-800 Yard Gun. I may end up getting a suppressor for it in the future but that's Another thread. The most important qualities I am looking for are (in order) Accuracy, Weight, Portability. Thoughts? AR-10 or SCAR H for the the Next Purchase.

>>30772961
If you spend SCAR money on an AR-10, you'll almost certainly be more accurate, but the SCAR is much lighter than any off the shelf AR-10 style rifle.

I'm just sitting here getting mad, though, because it's been over a year and there's still no aftermarket support for the DPMS LR308 G2.

It's a factory .308 AR that's lighter AND more accurate than a SCAR, but also lol DPMS, I'm not buying factory rifles from those clowns.

>also my goal is a 20 inch 6.5 Creedmore that's under 9 lbs with optic and can. I could make one today if I was willing to buy a factory rifle (pretty much just for the bolt, receivers, and barrel extension, fugg) and have a custom barrel made from a blank...
>>
>>30773043
>not buying factory rifles
I have a DPMS Mini-SASS that shoots 1/2 MOA with SMK 77's.
There not all bad. Just don't get the shit ones.
>>
>>30772961
>20 inch 6.5 Creedmore
OP here.
I have RPR in 6.5 and its Awesome. You will not be disappointed with the Cartridge.

Will look at the GII and see where it sits on the scales.
>>
>>30773130
>GII
> Can I get the Barrel and accuracy of the GII SASS and the weight of the Gii Recon please?

I can skip the bipod and I normally shot off my back pack anyways...
>>
>>30772961

That's if FN SSR releases any time soon. SCAR 17 if you want retard reliability.

Well the Scar is $3000 so I would go with the AR-10.
>>

>Accuracy, Weight, Portability

In that order, AR-10. You can't buy a SCAR 17 right now anyway.

AR-10 you fucking pleb.

that's one of those rifles that you SHOULD have.
>>
>>30773107
DPMS doesn't offer a GII in CM, and the G1s they offer in CM all have retarded heavy barrel profiles. I want a medcon/recon CM on the G2 receiver system, with an EMR V2 or similar, but nothing's offered, and no one has aftermarket upper receivers, barrel nuts, receiver extensions or bolt carrier groups for the G2 (DPMS doesn't even sell that shit), so I'd have to buy a completed rifle and tear apart an upper that is essentially costing me a grand in order to get the $300 worth of parts I'd need to make what I want.

Fuck that noise.
>>
>>30773389

It's a SCAR. It doesn't need a "cleaning regiment"
>>
>>30773467

Is that rust or dirt? Powder residue?

I personally like the AR10 over the scar. But the scar is way more packable.
>>
>>30773043
6.5 Creedmore is based. I would have an AR-10 in that for precision and a SCAR-H for general shit and SHTF.
>>
>>30773432
Best stock upper for the aR 10 with a 16 to 18inch bull flutterpd match barrel?
>>
>>30773606
Buy an upper with a good barrel (I like Krieger) that is compatible with your lower. Adjustable gas would be nice.

Get a Geissele or JP trigger, get a JP buffer and spring combo.

I don't pay attention to who assembles what in which configuration, when it comes to bull barrels, because I fucking hate bull barrels. Unless you're shooting F class or are on a dogtown, you don't need a 15 lb rifle.
>>
>>30773756
Hoping for a 7 to 8 pound accurate rifle in 308. Bbl's seem to be the way to do it. Trigger job is a possibility. Was looking a dpms mk12 in 308 as well.

That rifle is going to weigh 10 lbs unloaded once you get glass and a mount on it.

If you want a light .308 (and 7-8 lbs is light as balls in a .308 semi-auto, a SCAR weighs 8 lbs unloaded, without an optic), you need to go with a thinner profile barrel, like below, and shave all the weight you can on the rest of it. Buy the lightest compatible free float tube, buy non-illuminated glass, have a smith flute the piss out of the barrel, use non-tactical rings, etc. You might still fail if you use the SR-25/LR-308/MA-10 size rifle. The DPMS GII hunter weighs 7.25 lbs before you put glass on it or add ammo. It shaves a lb and a quarter off off a regular LR308 just in the receiver set and bolt carrier, and uses a barrel with this same profile (I'm pretty sure). You might want to consider getting a shorter barrel to save weight, but those are harder to find from good makers.

4got, JP makes a "Large Frame" LMOS now, that'll save you half a pound over the standard carrier.

If I ever become a sedentary fuck who no longer cares about rifle weight, I'm buying one of these.

Since we're on the Subject of AR-10 rifles. I'm picking up a Sig716 3-Gun Heavy from a fellow calgunner. Anyone had any experience with it? From what I've read about it online, it appears to be a Sig 716DMR just with a shorter barrel and collapsible stock. Anyone have any experience with it?
>>
>>30774209

>Sig

Why not just get a DD Ar10 or even a colt 901?
>>
>>30774244
Selection in California with the impending AR ban has made things pretty damn spare at the moment. I managed to snag it for 1900 so I figured it was a solid deal.

Couldn't find another DD5V1 for under 2800 and all were out of stock. Hell, SCAR-17s are going for as much as 5-6k for a stock package right now.
>>
>>30774209
I don't have any experience with the DMR platform, however I have the normal 716 (16in barrel) and it's a fucking incredible rifle. Had 0 issues with it, accurate, powerful, I put a PWS brake on it and it has almost the amount of recoil as an ar15 (15 has a little less). I bought my 716 over a SCAR17 and I don't regret it.
>>
>>30774406
Awesome thanks for the report amigo. The guy is shipping it to my FFL tomorrow so I can't wait to get the dros and waiting period over with. Already purchased the upgrades I need for it and just need to snag some ammo. What does the 716 like to eat if you don't mind me asking?
>>
I personally prefer the ergonomics and aesthetics of AR-platform rifles, but I guess if you don't mind side-folding stocks, mostly polymer and FDE rifles, and would rather have the charging handle on just one side instead of in the way of your cheek rest, then the SCAR could be good, too. I'm just a picky mofo.

But if you're a real man you'll get a M14 or G3.
>>
>>30774446
I've been using shit ammo honestly, perfecta and CBC, gun show special shit that is cheap. A buddy of mine only feeds his Lake City ammo and it works perfectly. Haven't tried tulammo or anything steel yet, but with the shitty shit I've been using I haven't had any hiccups.
>TL;DR as far as I know it eats everything
Also, congrats on your purchase. This board told me not to buy a 716 because "heavy" and "expensive" but it has been one hell of a great rifle. Nice to know fellow /k/omrades and calgunners are actually picking up decent weapons before these bullshit laws at the beginning of 2017
>>
>>30774617
That's really great to hear, I need to buy the reloading materials for it for eventual reloading, but I figure i'll buy a few boxes first and get acquainted with it and get my optics sighted in at least.
>>
>>30773880
Just submitted price request.
If it's under $1500 I'll probably buy it.
>>
>>30777336
$410, but they need the bolt and an existing SCAR barrel to scavenge the barrel extension and gas block
