The Pentagon’s increasingly eclectic Defense Innovation Advisory Board has reached full strength, with celebrity astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson

Do you think an innovation board with members like Neil degrasse tyson is a good weapons development plan?
>>
I hope this is in preparation for Black Science Man to explain the Pentagon's energy weapons or force shields.
>>
>>30771019
No. Tyson is a fucking celebrity and doesn't know shit about national defense. He is very liberal and will probably tell us we should abolish our nuclear stockpile. I want to be a physicist myself and I don't listen to him much. He is humble but there are certain subjects he should not be commenting on.
>>
>>30771019
Ash Carter has done nothing right during his term. He's adding unnecessary bureaucracy and unwanted social policies.
>>
>>30771019
Tyson is a fucking idiot though. He's king of the plebeians for christs sake! He makes dumb science for even dumber people.
>>
>>30771161
Yes. Like I said above he is more of a celebrity than a good physicist. I have noticed that the majority of the people who listen to him are fucking idiots, and take everything he says as end all be all.

Pretty much this. Hell, even in his field, he is only there due to affirmative action.

How can we fuck up the Army more than it already has? Sex with a woman is rape if she "wanted to say no", sex with a woman who had any amount of alcohol is rape, staring at a woman over 10 seconds is sexual harrassment, Woman are in the infantry because delusional people declared them capable with zero proof, trannies can openly join the military and get a free sex change.

Fucking progressives will destroy everything intelligent men worked hard to create and once we're squatting the burning rubble the feminists and cucks will probably blame us for letting them run things.
>>
>>30771667
Exactly. He is only popular due to his skin color. Liberal millennials like him and he appeals to them because of their stupidity.
>>
>>30771761
To be fair, "BECAUSE ITS MY RIGHT" has never been a good idea to do things.

It's your right to light yourself on fire, does that mean you should do it?

It shouldn't go "I need a gun because 2a", it should go "2a exists because I need my guns"
>>
He's a fake scientist.

He's a ballroom dancer. That's what he majored in.
>>

>>
>>30771761
I hate NDT and other celebrity scientists so much for this crap. He takes a pedantic approach to movie critique, acting as if the general populace is incapable of distinguishing fantasy from reality. He's a giant black hole, sucking the fun out of the universe.

Then there's this nonsense when he dabbles in politics and shit he knows nothing about.

NDT is an anti-gun numbnut who only backs up his claims with rhetorical bull.

Bill Nye is also anti-gun, and is a global warming alarmist.

The only celebrity scientist I've seen who hasn't turned down this road is Michio Kaku.
>>
>>30771902

This man speaks truth, I'll find a better worded way of using this next time (literally never because I live in TX) I'm challenged on guns
>>
>>30771126
He really shouldn't comment on anything outside his field
>>
>>30771902

Right, but the idea behind having rights is that they are yours. Why have a second amendment if I can't do it just because I can? Is it a good idea to OC at the RNC? No. But if it isn't illegal, the governor shouldn't be able to suspend that right because it's a 'high profile' situation. Kasich realized this and did not disallow OC at the RNC (still wish he had started sooner, if he had he might have gotten the nomination instead of the shitbag trump). That's what a right is. You can be stupid with it. It's not a privilege. That's the point.
>>

>Why have a second amendment if I can't do it just because I can?
You have the right to light yourself on fire. Why aren't you doing that?

Carl Sagan was popular because he was the first scientist/astrophysicist/whatever his title was to get a lot of screen time, and had such an imaginative perspective on things. The period of time in which he was popular had a lot to do with it too. Instead of stating facts or predicting impossible things like "in 20 years man will have bases on Mars" like they did in the 60s, he spent a lot of time being imaginative and urging his viewers to explore, and think of things from different perspectives, like instead of how mighty our space program is, how infinitely insignificant our whole species is, yet at the same time how important it is that we not let ourselves fade into oblivion. That and some people (myself included) found his voice calming and soothing, which helps when he's stirring up your brain pudding.

Millennials have latched onto Sagan (if that's what you're referring to by asking to explain Sagan's popularity among millennials) because most millennials have embraced imagination and creativity, to a fault sometimes, in that they're willing to embrace the fanciful over the factual out of optimism which may or may not be misguided
>>

Well said
>>
>>30772039
>Carl Sagan was popular because he was the first scientist/astrophysicist/whatever his title was to get a lot of screen time,
And Tyson was the second. It's not his race, it's that he appeared in a bunch of PBS shows and such. David Suzuki back in the day had a similar story to Sagan and Tyson, too.

Similar for Michio Kaku, he's another pop physicist. He's not popular because he's a chink, he's popular because he has an easy to read best-selling book that's available for cheap.

Just as popular because, once again, he appeals to a certain crowd. Generally dumb young liberals who have little to no background in the STEM field. There is no denying that Tyson's race makes him more popular than he should be.
>>
>>30772038

I could argue with your rampant bullshit. I could. I don't care enough to invest the time. I'm just pointing out the fact that you don't see a difference between a right and a privilege. You don't have to justify a right to people. You have to justify a privilege. That's the difference. At least take that away. I know what you're saying. Appearing reasonable to anti gunners may be priority for you, but it's not for me. I do try to be friendly, and I accept everyone's viewpoints. Not only that, I listen and try to comprehend antigun arguments. But the cold numbers are there. This week is a great example. 19 dead in japan from a knife attack, multiple shootings and stabbings across europe. Gun/weapon control will not save lives. It never will. People determined to kill will kill. By limiting access, you are only increasing the odds that more people will be victims.
>>
>>30772143
>rampant bullshit
this is why americans basically have no actual rights anymore

you're really bad at justifying them, so the government just walks all over you

>>
>>30772189
>You don't have to justify rights you fucking mongoloid.
How else do you think you get granted rights? Law is just a series of contracts, you need some negotiation skills if you wanna avoid getting fucked over.
>>
>>30772081

I dunno if it's so much about the book you're talking about, which I don't know the title of and I'm sure isn't his only one, vs his having been on many programs for years, offering his opinions or just explaining stuff, and like Sagan, has a certain way of talking about things where he can simply explain complicated things, while also giving creative examples and offers different possible outcomes that make people think more. Doesn't mean he doesn't have valid points. I think sometimes people hate anyone who's popular, and while I generally hate the mainstream, I think Michio Kaku is pretty damn legit. Tyson is not as legit, though, and I guess that's while we're all here, but though I don't know much about his personal opinions about things which is why y'all may or may not like him, even if he is a "pop physicist" if he leads more people to get into science, even if most who did because of him find out "they don't think it be like it is but it do", the few who do continue furthering scientific development will further us anyways. I'd rather have "pop physicists" with a 25% success rate in furthering scientific contributions of this generation than pop-literally anything else on tv/social media with any higher success rate

Yes, and the civil war changed that by adopted the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, not only that we have other amendments and governmental forces that actively promote women and minorities in this country. It was a hypocritical document at its inception because there were local, non federal, laws that barred people and they were not seen as a violation of the constitution. Now we have those laws and legal speak in place to protect women and minorities and even empower them.

False equivalency bruh. Lighting yourself on fire is not equivocal to legally carrying a gun

Lighting oneself ablaze=danger to yourself and others by possibly starting a fire that could hurt more people, and scarring people for life as you burn away

Legally carrying a gun=not brazenly brandishing your weapon and only taking it out of its holster when a threat arises. The worst that could happen would if a wild soccermom gets triggered or you're asked to leave an establishment for OCing.

You do have a point though. The Bill of Rights isn't going to defend itself, and there is rampant revisionism on the anti-gun side regarding the 2A's context, from "Militia only", "Muskets only" and "le slavery" nonsense. There are even supreme court justices who think that the 1st amendment does not apply to individuals.

The 2nd amendment only recognizes your rights. It's as effective as a "gun free zone" sign. Protecting the 2A requires work and vigilance on your behalf.

This guy sums it all up very well.

So when the liberal elites say you don't have those rights from birth, they are just as "correct" as you are when you suggest that you do have them. Without God, morality is just a bunch of subjective nonsense. It's like trying to plant your feet firmly in mid air.

>>
>>30772497

>>
>>30772461

An idea can be an enforcement mechanism if it is believed by most people. That's the problem. People in the US are being taught like Euros and Asians that they have to subject to the authority and if they can't enforce their rights then why have them. It's ideological though. I don't think most americans will get it or even care. Most care about their day to day humdrum and despise any interruption of that. Just because most Americans do not consider these things, does not mean that isn't what the country was founded on. Because American A decides to be a peasant doesn't mean American B has to be one. It's an oversimplified analogy, but it illustrates my point well enough.

>>30772497

Morality is taught by popular society. Most of our history, popular society is religion, but that has shifted. We know morality now as what is moral and what isn't. We are taught from our family structure and influenced from that more than religion.
>>
>>30772486

You give the government money and trust in exchange for certain services (protection, infrastructure, etc)

The government only gets people to give them that money and trust by proving they'll render the services and guarantee certain liberties. Or they'll limit some liberties to make it easier to supply services demanded (such as limiting the use of snow chains or tracked vehicles on asphalt roads because it fucks them up and increases maintenance costs)

>The government only gets people to give them that money and trust by proving they'll render the services and guarantee certain liberties

Yes, this applies to roads, highways, other shit. The bill of rights was constructed as a separate document to be incorporated into the constitution in regard to people and their individual liberties that did not pertain to services. They existed and were guaranteed from inception. For example. You buy music from the app store and apple guarantees you will have access to that music forever. Then 10 years later they block access to your music. because of reason x. That's how the constitution has set up rights and that is how the current government is abusing them. And apparently nobody gives a shit.

Doesn't matter.

Of course there are, but they're bullshit and doesn't recognize my personal rights to property or self-defense.

>Do you want to deal with the fucking ATF
Yes, I would much sooner deal with the ATF than I would Rikspolisstyrelsen, because they're a lot more predictable and you can use their own logic against them, you can take Swedish cops to the highest courts on a firearms case and they can still arbitrarily make their own decision afterwards and you're back at square one.

I can be denied my human right because the guy at the club or office clerk at the station doesn't like my face or opinion, and I have no legal way of seeking restitution, explain how that is fair or reasonable in any way?

The simple fact that you are defending Tyson is proof enough of your stupidity. You are literally dumb enough to not see that he is nothing but a leftwing propaganda spewing fool. This is after all a weapons board, and Tyson is blatantly leftwing. So why are you even here? Tyson doesn't try to get people involved with science but rather tries to display and spread a political bias in many things such as global warming and gun control. You are a typical American millennial, educated just enough to become brainwashed in liberal ideology while in University. There is a difference between common sense and earning a degree, the former of which you have very little. Tyson has contributed only to spreading political misconception and obviously it has worked well on you.

People who use the term "God given rigjts" generally believe that those rights are universally held by all humans on the globe except those actually commuting crimes or being held accountable for prior crimes (acts of agression.)

No one says that God only granted rights to Americans. The idea is that all people have those rights, but that the ruling regime in every nation that isn't the U.S. is oppressing the people and using force to infringe on the rights that those people were granted by God.

I'm fedora, btw. Don't ask me to defend the concept. Just know that if you can't be assed to understand the mindset of people whom you are arguing against, you come off looking stupid. You might think you have won the argument, but take it from those of us watching from the sidelines, you lost.

He established his credentials and published papers LONG before his pop scientist career. I don't shit on pop scientists anyways, since kids these days are vapid assholes and if even a few get into science as a result of pop science, that's a net gain.
Tyson has a track record, and earned the career he has.

That said, with his opinions on guns? I am saddened that a man of his background opts to throw hard facts and figures out in favour of emotional appeal. Of all people he should know better. Either way he should probably refrain from commenting on issues he obviously has not researched.
