Cobrays have a bit of a shoddy reputation (mostly from their strange and chintzy lineup), but a lot of that comes from the shitty Zytel (synthetic) magazines they come with, if you can get some proper metal mags for it, the gun should run alright.

The MPA guns tend to be alright as far as I know (they seem to be higher quality than some of the older makers), they come with plastic Tapco mags which apparently are alright, but metal mags should work if you can get them (I don't know if these Tapco mags work in the Cobray, by the way)

As far as range blasters go, an M-11/9 pistol is a pretty good choice, fun to plink with, the beauty of a range toy is that there's no need for practicality.

I just ordered the mpa 930t mini yesterday for about $421 shipped. I can't wait for it to get here and take it out to the range. Gonna put a 2 stage faux suppressor on it for that 1980's drug cartel feel

You have an FFL?
>>
Wasn't there a site awhile back selling receiver flats and kits for making your own semi auto MAC style pistol? I lost the link and all I can come with is FTF industries but that's definitely not the vendor I recall.
>>
I bought a 1994 production m11/9 from a buddy for $180. The zytel mags are absolutely shot and I get maybe 3 rounds before a jam of some type. I purchased a $40 ZMAG from shockwave technologies and the fucking thing rusted within a month and won't feed now.

The gun now sits in a closet with a sig brace on it and I've not shot it in 8-9 months.

I figure I can sell it off to some redguard and make a decent profit one day, but I still want to try to get it running well.

I used to have two of the old 1982 preban open bolts. The 9mm was a '81 and the .45 was a '79. Miss those things. Bought them as complete rust buckets, and completely refinished them. Awesome guns. Triggers are crap though.
Personally I would save up for open-bolts. Theyre awesome SHTF guns.

You can buy a kit for $300 if you aren't a faggot and really want to do it, I can mail you the side plates so you don't have to do it yourself.
I had two pairs of them CNC'd at my work so I have a spare I was saving for someone else who built one.
They are within tolerance to .002 of an inch of the specs.
The side plates are stainless steel and the kit is mild steel, so you need to either really know how to weld, or have someone that can weld those two together for you.
All you need to do is weld and you're ready to rock.
Mine are for a .45 ACP VMAC10, not a 9mm.
You show me proof that you bought it, and I'll mail them to you free.

Shoots good in semi, but jams on full auto and even has the original magazines.
>>
>>30773449
Jelly. How much did you pay for it?
Was thinking of getting one when I move to AZ, but I guess they have gone up in price to $7,000~ ish, they were $4,200 when I last looked a few years ago.
>>
>>30773473
$5,500
Came with 4 magazines and the suppressor with extra baffles.
>>
>>30770109
why not pay 6k for an original
>>
>>30773483
*Let me correct myself it came with extra wipes. I keep forgetting. It still uses that old shit.

Old meme is old.
Regardless how is anything we are doing illegal?
It's not considered manufacturing a firearm until you weld the MAC.
He could easily drop a p.o. box or something for me to mail it to.
I'm just trying to help him out.
I've had multiple guys on /k/ ship me things.
Also, the email I have was a trip I used to use in my custom AK stock threads here years ago, can search the archive if you wish, I doubt anyone would think I was a sketchy dude.
>>
>>30770572
I dream of finding a cheap open bolt semi one day. People want half as much as a transferable for those.
>>
>>30773888
Because you can convert open bolt semis into f/a in 30 seconds with a grinder. Thats why they cost half as much.
>>
>>30773914
Yeah but that's still an unregistered MG. If you want that instead of wasting 3000 clams why not just build a regular full auto one from a parts kit and two chucks of sheet metal for like 300 bucks?

>Tfw Gf's dad has a full giggle mac with the upper that uses calico mags and a suppressor
>>
>>30773442
I appreciate it, but I have another project first. I'm just curious how the conversion to a closed bolt system works, and how I can demonstrate that is is not "readily convertible."

My plan eventually is to use http://www.theflatspot.net/mac10---45-lower-receiver-flat.html which is made of chromoly. I have had good luck with their ak flats. Alternatively I could just wait until another round of VMACs come on the market and buy that for the same price as the parts kit.
>>
>>30770109
I have a Masterpiece knockoff. It's not a bad gun. Not very accurate and the sights are dogshit. If you get one for the right price, they are worth it as a toy and not much more.

>making your own rifle or pistol is illegal
Fuck off retard.
>>
>>30770330
This would be the reason I'd want one.
>>
>>30773914
Which is illegal as fuck to do, and arguably not worth considering they have value as an exempt open-bolt semi.
>>
>>30775364
>another round of VMACs come on the market
I know Classic still carries them. Is there a newer generation with better reliability in the works?
>>
A E S T H E T I C
>>
>>30775878
The magazines I have are not Zytel.
I'm testing different ammunition, so far its handloads that work the best. The perfecta will jam on at least one.
Also that upper is $900 bucks which I can spend on ammo.
>>
>>30778676
Yes but it makes it a more pleasant gun to shoot.
>>
>>30773449
> but jams on full auto
dual row, single feed mags are just shitty designed
>>
>>30778812
That would be true.
The biggest issue is that since its just cheaply put together the trigger guard likes to cut your fingers.
Also whoever designed the stock didn't know what they were doing since unless you press it against your shoulder for dear life it will slide up constantly.
>>
>>30778857
I don't think anyone actually makes decent magazines for it.
>>
>>30779014
The original machinegun or the Lage upgrade parts? There's a lot of alternatives.
>>
>>30779077
The original machine gun.
Mainly I would just like something to grip it better, because that strap seems to just be there for moral support.
>>
>buying guns that were only good as bullet hoses in semi-auto
>>
>>30779029
Convert it to use dual feed magazines (like say, Uzi, Colt or S&W ones) and you'd be in a vastly better territory.

Of course, some people have converted them to use Glock mags, which are double-stack, single feed.

>>30779098
The Lage uppers give you that, even though the slower rate of fire might be a smaller selling-point to you, it extends the front of the receiver for more gripping area or to put on a VFG.

They make a number of other upgrade parts, better grips, better stocks, better sights.
>>
>>30779744
Would I still be able to use the suppressor? Or does the upper block the threads?

There's threaded barrels, there's barrels with H&K barrel lugs, you can get a barrel with a flash-hider and then use a Quick Detach suppressor on that (which does sit more in place).

They also make further extended uppers if you want to use Finnish subgun mags (50rd casket mags and 72rd drums), and some do, because there's even more grip area, less recoil (because of weight), and Finnish subgun mags are genuinely very good.
>>
>>30780258
Well mainly I want to use the one I already have, its got some big chunky threads so if they make one for it that would be nice.
>>
>>30780604
It's literally just an upper you attach to your MAC-10 lower receiver (the part of your gun which is registered as a machinegun), using it's legal full-auto sear as a host for what's basically another gun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uz9mrOpjMv4

You can also swap them back and forth.
>>
>>30770741
I shouldn't want this as much as I do. Shame about the welds though.

What's so bad?

It's just light surface rust.
>>
>>30782039
First time welding, never cared enough about them to fix it, being a $300 throwaway gun. I just whip it out when I have friends over or as a talking piece when I meet fellow gun owners. Not for bragging purposes or anything egotistical, just a conversation starter.
>>
>>30770109
I have one. It's a jamtastic little piece of shit.
>>
>>30782107
Yes, but pretty significant coverage.
>>
>>30780604
you would need an adapter for that http://www.ftfindustries.com/product/12-28ad.html

just pull the A2 FH off the lage upper and screw this adapter on for your ancient can
>>
>>30774034
Do you have pictures of this?
>>
>>30782039
What's wrong with the welding?
>>

>it looks like it was done by a human, not a machine

the high spots look like poor penetration to me, but not enough to make any sort of non-aesthetic difference. They're fine.

>>30776980
lol I'm just hoping out loud. I was drooling over the Classic listing for 2 weeks while saving up money, then they went out of stock.
