Hello /k/, I'm in possession of a VEPR-12 shotgun, and I only own one magazine. I've had trouble finding magazines for it in my local gun stores, and options online are pretty damn expensive.
I've heard about 3D printing plastic components and using ordinary springs to assemble magazines for different guns and it seems like it could be pretty useful.
I think it would be legal if I print a magazine that abides by my state laws (IL), but I'm not sure if I'm legally allowed to print gun magazines at all.
I'd most likely use the 3D printer available at my university for this, but I feel like uploading a 3D model of a VEPR-12 mag would cause a bit of a stir.
>TL;DR is 3D printing a magazine worth it or not? Is it legal, economical, practical, etc.?

Also, does anybody know of a website that would have a catalog of gun related 3D models? After looking through thingverse, I feel like fun related 3D models are taken down routinely.

Not sure where to find it, but there's a massive torrent full of /k/ related stuff (including 3d printing models) called the Ar/k/. I think it was on kickass torrents.
Also, check out fosscad.org

Cool! Thanks, I couldn't find anything though Google.
FOSSCAD is what you're looking for.
No 3D printable VEPR-12 mag designs out AFAIK.
making your own magazine typically ranks in the "bad idea" of amateur gunsmithing.
Not because you'll blow yourself up, but because they spend a LOT of time getting the springs just right. If you have a shitty magazine, you'll have a shitty range trip. There are reasons to print your own magazines, but saving a few dollars is not one of them.

I couldn't find many good prices on 5 round mags, which are the only ones I can legally own in my state. I know that I won't be hunted down for a higher capacity mag, but I don't wanna risk a federal crime.

What price are you looking for?

For the last fucking time.
3d printing is a meme.
3d printing can not produce a viable end product. No, metal laser sintering is not 3d printing.
If you want to make a viable product and use 3d memeing, then just learn how to use/make molds.
Trying to make functioning magazines on FDM machines is one of the most infuriating things I've ever done. All of the rifle mags I've ever seen work were done on a high end SLA system.

High-end commercial Additive Manufacturing Systems can produce good end use products, but it's well out of the range of 99% of individuals

>No, metal laser sintering is not 3d printing.
Only because the patents haven't been expired long enough for it to percolate down to home units. Give it 4-5 years.

>federal
I don't think you know what this word means
>legal
yes
>economical
borderline. You'd want it printed in ABS or nylon. Nylon is stronger but more expensive. In pure plastic it'd probably be under $10. But time costs money, so if you have to rent time or pay a printing hub to do it then the price will balloon.
>practical
The only questionable bit is the feed lips. Don't VEPR-12 and Saigas have metal guides/reinforcements on the feed lips?
