.45>9mm

>they both kill
Why does it even matter? They're both doing the exact same thing. If anything, the 9mm is better because it doesn't make as big a mess as the .45. Just use HPs with the 9mm, for fucks sake, faggot.

The M1 Garand is the manliest firearm ever devised. It has been known to make gay men straight and make women spontaneously orgasm just by being in close proximity.

The M1 Garand could have been box fed and in a useful caliber like .270 Pederson.
It wasn't.

>The M1 Garand could have been box fed
More weight, less ammo.
No need for more than 8 rounds since 30-06 infantry rifles aren't used for suppressive fire.

.270 Pederson would have fucked over our logistics.
Even if it were a better round, logistics win wars, not a more pleasant to shoot round.
The shockwave from firing a .50 BMG round will collapse your lungs.

Box fed would have been in .30-06 and taken BAR mags. The .276 Pedersen gun took ten round enblok clips and the T1E3 was noticeably slimmer than the later .30-06 M1.

The Canadians almost adopted a big bore automagnum as a service pistol.
The NAACO Brigadier was basically a scaled up Browning Hi Power chambered in a stretched .45 acp cartridge named .45 NAACO. Muzzle velocity was 1600 fps with a 230 grain bullet from the Brigader's 5 1/2" barrel. The gun weighed 67 ounces and had an overall length of 9.7 inches. It had an eight round magazine. The Brigadier was submitted for testing in 1959, but was rejected. The official reason being the Canadian military would adopt a pistol in NATO standard 9mm.
.45 NAACO was later renamed .45 Winchester Magnum and was chambered in the Automag IV, the Wildey Magnum Pistol and the LAR Grizzly.
The 80's were a time of... experimentation

By the by, the Brigadier's muzzle energy was 1307 ft lbs. About the same as 5.56 NATO from a 20" barrel.
