Hey guys, I just finishing milling out my lower reciever but found out that I need to blue it.

Whats a good bluing agent and where can I get some?

Do I just spray down the lower or do I spray down the parts that go inside too?
>>
>>30756709
You generally don't blue aluminium which is what I'm guessing your receiver is.

Your options for aluminium is anodizing or a coating(Cerakote, Duracoat etc.)

And for a full receiver its better to have it done professionally most of the home kits are shit plus there is a fair bit of prep work that is important to get a good finish.
>>
I too, also finished out milling my lower and am having trouble with the trigger. The disconnector and hammer work fine, but the trigger and safety don't move at all. Did I mill out too shallow?
>>
>>30757018
Alright, I had a friend tell me that after I sprayed it down I had to stick it in the oven.

Mine is a billet lower I got from 80percent.com, it looks all shiny where I milled it out.
>>
>>30757048
No just no.
>>
>>30757045
It could be that, and it could also be that your safety selector pin in getting caught near the ends of the grooves along which it runs. I had to dremmel mine out a little bit.
I'd recommend milling a bit more as well. I ended up going past the final notch/line and just hitting the bottom of the depth gauge on the jig when I was routering.
Another problem could potentially be that you're pistol grip bolt is tightened too much or you need another washer in there, but idk..

Your grip is too close to the receiver (that's what the mag well is for if your shooting QCB), you should move it out furthest you can on the rail. Don't bother with a broomstick, they're stupid, hang up on things, rarely placed correctly and useless. B5 systems grip stop is a low profile and effective grip for left arm extended rapidly engaging multiple targets style of shooting. And it can be used (as is designed) to "bite" into baracades, walls, curbs, car/truck doors, etc.

During WWI there existed the bolt action rifle and the pump action shotgun. The shotgun was so useful in the trenches certain countries wanted it banned from use. Both platforms had drawback but those could be eliminated by combining them. Why didn't they? Why aren't rifle cartridge loaded shotguns a thing?
>>
>>30768665
You watch way too many movies/play too many games.

Just because it's a .50 doesn't mean they're explosive rounds.
>>
>>30769912
Because cratridges with pointed FMJ bullets don't do well in tubular magazines, and anyway they're not as efficient a use of space.
>>
>>30769961

I never really believed it would "explode" the limb, but it is a pretty large round at point blank. So I figure it's not going to just go through clean.
>>
>>30769961
>>30769989

Should also clarify, I mean the arm is gone due to complications,

Not sure you can really save an arm that has an entirely shattered shoulder considering the nerve damage that comes with it.
>>
>>30769970
Yeah but I watched a forgotten weapons video where ian was reviewing a French rifle with a tube magazine and the cartridge made the point of the bullet lay flat. Wouldn't that have been a solid design? It would help with sight picture because you aren't removing a hand to rerack the bolt.

Predicting what bullet wounds will do is next to impossible. Immediately after the fact, that arm will still be attached, despite the large caliber round used, but in the short term, it will be completely useless. In the long term, after a lot of surgery and months of tedious physical therapy, the patient may retain very limited functionality in that arm. Or maybe not. Amputation could be quite probable in that situation, and writing that your character suffered an amputation because of such a wound would be very believable.

If one were to be caught carrying a pistol for self defense in a state which does not recognize that constitutional right, how would the court case go down if you were to try to make an honest effort to argue in court that it is the state which is in the wrong for curtailing your rights, not you for exercising them?

How would it go down if the case caught media attention and the NRA threw their weight at it?
>>
>>30773080

Does that result in the state in question being required to change their laws, or just in the defendant going free?
>>
>>30773080
Charges would vary by state and circumstance so pretty impossible to give an even half good answer.

States have repeatedly been allowed to regulate the carrying of arms (in many states these laws were passed with a wink and a nudge to only be applied to blacks and other undesirables) and I doubt that's changing based on a muh rights based challenge to the status quo since the courts you'd be arguing in have been handing down sentences for a while now.

A better federal argument could be made under the full faith and credit clause if licensed to carry in another state, but that's also never gonna work.

In reality, you're fucked and your appeal goes no where.

Would it be sacrilege to chop down the barrel to 20" to ditch the shitty choke I can't even use? On the one hand, it objectively makes the gun more useful to me, but on the other hand, this gun has been the way it is since 1903.

Question for reloaders.

How difficult is it to reload black powder cartridges? and how long would BP cases last as opposed to modern powders?

I want a martini henry or martini enfeild at some point and reloading is the way to go either way.
>>
>>30773508
If anything it's easier, usually. You don't have to worry as much about the type of powder. Just use FFF or FF as instructed and pack that shit in. I've never heard of someone over-loading a BP case, though you should measure it all the same, if for no other reason than shot regularity.

Case life depends entirely on the case, though in theory they might last longer.

Firstly, it doesn't matter whether you're pumping or working a bolt, if you're lying prone while doing it, you're not going to maintain a sight picture.

The principal problem with a tube-magazine rifle is the time it takes to reload the tube, this was the principal advantage of the magazine bolt-action, especially when fed with en-bloc or stripper clips.

Plus, if you want to keep the action free from the ingress of crap, then you can't have the loading gate that a shotgun has, as that is simply a poorly-sealed hole for mud and gunk to get into your gun.

Anyway, to answer your first question, yes. Pump-action rifles are a thing.
From the famous Browning designed .22 gallery guns, to the modern Remington 7615P.

The reason they haven't taken off is they're just not as good as a lever-action or bolt-action rifle.

I've got a stevens 350 pump. It was my first gun, and I really wish I had done a little more research before I bought it. for $200, just buy a maverick 88. Waaay better quality.
>>
>>30775873
Thanks senpai. I'll probably just hold off then. I already have a pretty nice old 870, I was just thinking of snapping this up if it was a good enough deal.

Any problems that /k/ can tell me about Enterprise Arms FALs? One for sale near me for 1200 dollaridoos. Worth it or are they crap?
>>
>>30776412
Do not do it.

Go to FalFiles and buy one from the marketplace or find a new DSA, enterprise is garbage.

Am I stupid for carrying a revolver?

Pros:
>.357 magnum stopping power
>Biggest risk by FAR in my city (Chicago) is mugging, so range isn't a huge deal
>Pocket carries so comfortably I forget I have it
>conceals extremely well, which is perfect as I carry in prohibited areas

cons
>6 round capacity
>short range
>high recoil
>>
>>30777722
It's not stupid, but on pretty much all points it's beaten out by a small semi auto.

If revolvers get you hard though it's not like they're a bad option.
>>
>>30777722
6 shots of 357 is enough to carry on you. Most pocket carry guns hold similar amounts anyway. Glock 43's hold 7 and that's only 9mm.

I just received a Remington Model 10-S shotgun from my grandfather.
What does the "S" in 10-S mean?
I looked it up but couldn't find anything.

Is it worth anything?

I'm hard up on money. Willing to sell it if it is worth over $200.
If it is worth 100$, I'll just keep it in my safe.
>>
>>30779187
Its probably close to the $100 range maybe 130 tops.

Getting a double barrel shotgun.

I need help deciding between a Stevens 311a made in the 50's, or a Springfield/Stevens 3000 (or earlier) made in the 20's. Same price and condition.

Which would probably be more durable. Were the ones made in the 20's decent? Theres not a whole lot of info online.
>>
>>30779234
Huh, my grandpa told me he got offered $500 for it.
I better track that guy down.

Any britbongs on here?

Am British, want to get a firearms license and a rifle. Thinking about a .308 bolt action, can anyone make any recommendations?
>>
I ordered a gun from buds gun shop and the tracker said it arrived at my ffl 3grs ago. Should I call him or should I wait for him to call me? It's my first gun and j don't want to be annoying or anythin because this guys actually pretty cool

I have an Auto Ordinance M1 Carbine reproduction that is shooting a little to the right. I have the flip sights, and I read an article that showed him shooting the same configuration I had and he said they were 'Drift Adjustable', but I'm not sure exactly how he went about that.

Wat do?
>>
>>30779406

They're both fine, get whichever feels better to you, make sure the barrels are on face.

Google that if you don't know what that means.
>>
>>30773416
I say not only should you cut it short, you should get a tax stamp for an AOW, cut the barrel flush with the magazine tube, and lop off the stock.

You don't *need* to finish it, you can actually leave the FCG pocket as bare metal and everything will assemble and function just the same. However, it's incredibly trashy. Fortunately, you've got plenty of options to cover up bare aluminum, none of which have anything to do with blueing.

Aluminum CANNOT blue. Blueing is a steel only thing that has to do with the coating steel can form at high temperatures or when given sufficient chemical persuasion. The closest thing for aluminum is anodizing, which is also requires chemical persuasion; of the "strong acid and electrical current" variety. Needless to say, you probably shouldn't anodize at home (pic related is battery acid, like in your car battery) unless you passed freshman chem without a chemical burn.

Do some independent research, not the kind provided on an anonymous Anasazi petroglyph board. I recommend you get some spray-on coating like durabake or alumahyde and follow the instructions on the can; not the instructions of your buddy who totally knows what he's doing.

In case anyone is interested, you can buy this in 2-quart packs from your local auto parts store. CarQuest and Advance Auto can for sure get it.

Should I invest in accurizing my 10/22 with a Green Mountain barrel, new stock, trigger group, and optic; or would replacing my shitty Crosman pellet rifle with an RWS 34 be a better decision?

I've got a Chinese style 75 round ak drum made in Romania and every video I see disassembling it easily lift off this cap, but mine is attached. I can't figure a way to line up the back bolt without taking it off.
