How do you prefer to carry your rifle? Do you prefer carrying it with the muzzle pointing down or do you prefer to cradle it Russian style?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sQy8JMTin2M
>>
Its less preference and more situational. The Russians cradle it when they aren't expecting to be attacked.

Depends on what you are doing and what's going on. AIot of our guys would cradle their rifles on patrol when we weren't somewhere shady.

The only correct way to carry a rifle is as follows:
>rifle cradled, resting solely on the left arm, parallel to the ground
>front of magazine resting against the crook of your arm
>fingers wrapped around the back of the pistol grip best you can
>thumb in trigger guard, on trigger
>right hand free to draw sidearm
On contact with enemy you jump and spin like a ballerina, firing your rifle to suppress while noscope headshoting with your sidearm.
Not that this technique doesn't work for lefties, who like gays, trans, leftists, pedos, flurries, and other degenerates shouldn't have guns to begin with.

Now get the fuck out.
>>
In non combat situation, short term, hold ak on pistol grip, pointing to tge ground.
Long term, cradle.

Combat situation, both hands, weapon lowered to degree of danger

Long term traveling, over shoulder with sling. With one twitch it is ready.

Pls comment

I've only got an AK so I might be biased to the cradle, but it is good for standing around doing nothing. But I wouldn't walk around like that for a while. If I have to be on the move and just need to transport it, I use the sling a tad more properly (Over right shoulder, under left arm, muzzle down and out of the way tucked to my body) or just let it hang from my neck with one hand on it if I expect to or was just shooting

Bro... we lost. The mission of the conflict in Vietnam was to defeat the communist north. We not only failed to defeat them, but we also allowed them to completely ransack the south.
Militarily sure we had a better k/d ratio. But since when does the k/d ratio actually matter if you didn't win the war?

You can argue that because we intervened no other country wanted to fuck with communism. But it's a weak argument. The truth is Vietnam was never truly communist and just wanted self determination and sovereignty. Today Vietnam is just as capitalist as any other third world country. If you want to say America won because of that, and that it wasn't inevitable go ahead. But to say we were militarily successful in Vietnam is unhealthy nationalistic pride,in par with saying the Russians were successful in Afghanistan.

Our task was to stop the spread of communism. We succeeded. Yeah, Vietnam fell victim to it but that's where it stopped and that was our goal. It would have been nice to wipe out the north but oh, well. We won the rest of southeast asia.

It's a poor understanding of the Asian methods of warfare to claim that the US won that war. We should not make that mistake in the future. People seem to like to use KDR or other similarly unimportant metrics to try and claim US victory, but that's simply not how the Asian mindset works. If we ever got into an engagement with China this sort of analysis would have to be at the forefront of our planning. They don't care what casualties they take, or what ground they cede, so long as they have ultimate victory in the end.

No, the US didn't lose conventionally, but the US lost nonetheless.

Imagine a contest where if you can take getting punched in the face by a boxer until they are bored you get $9 million dollars.

Guy A gets punched twice and says, "Not worth it." and leaves.

Guy B ends up getting punched over 80 times but wins the money.

Both people are winners but it depends on the perspective you approach it from

Because the purpose of war is generally not to blow up a bunch of gooks. It's to accomplish some aim, that we did not accomplish.

To help get the thread back here's an interesting read: http://soldiersystems.net/2016/04/21/follow-through-consulting-weapon-grip-for-rapid-movement/

tl;dr: For moving rapidly with the rifle slung at the low ready wrap all four fingers around the pistol grip and put your hand on top of the forearm. Less strain on the wrist and in case of fall your finger doesn't go in the trigger guard, discharging the rifle and/or breaking your finger.
>>
>>30756447
Interesting. In another video, Chickenhawk said that running with the rifle pointed down could really mess you up if you trip and take the stock to the throat, chin, or face. Also the muzzle will get stuck in the ground and get clogged. An anon in another thread said that that exact thing had happened to him.
>>
>>30745851
My rifleman buddy was telling me at every different instructor (at Basic and Infantry training) made them carry their weapons a different way.

They never carried "Russian style" in training, because of sweeping, but some Instructors would say low ready, some would say high ready.

He also told me that the style used changes depending on the battalion's preference.

I have seen pictures of Aussie infantry on patrol carrying "Russian Style"
When sweeping friendlies is less of a problem, unlike in training, where you'll be with your whole platoon not just your brick.

Terrible analogy, here's a better one for the Vietnam War

Guys A and B go out for drinks one night and run into a stranger, guy C. guy C is getting the shit kicked out of him and having his house vandalized every day by guy Z, who's getting his paintball guns, rolls of toilet paper, and monetary compensation from guys X and Y. Guy B, upon hearing that guy C is being victimized because of his favorite sport (which is also guy B's favorite sport) being different from X and Y's, offers to kick the shit out of guy Z. Guy C appreciates the sentiment, but reminds him that he's being backed by Guy A and Guy B, who are really rich and friends with the cops. Guy A tells Guy B that he doesn't owe anything to C and that Z doesn't really deserve to have the shit kicked out of him, but ultimately realizes that he can't fully control B. Given the circumstances, Guy B decides that he could still probably scare Guy Z enough that he won't want to talk to Guy X and Y anymore without pissing off Guy X and Y too much and goes over to Z's house the next day. Guy B beats the ever loving shit out of Guy Z and expects that to be the end of it, but Guy Z just attacks Guy C twice as viciously as before to retaliate. Guy A notices this and decides to take pictures of what Guy Z did to Guy C and his house to show Guy B's friends in an attempt to get Guy B to stop what he was doing, but none of his friends are convinced quite yet; so Guy B continues to give Guy Z a hard time. Eventually this escalates into Guy B TP'ing his house, shooting his car with paintball guns, and even killing Guy Z's dog at one point, but all this just causes Guy Z to hate Guy B and Guy C even more. Guy Z, unbeknownst to Guy A and C, plans a massive attack on Guy C, B, and C's house. He waits until Guy A, B, and C are all hanging out at Guy C's house and throws a molotov cocktail through the window. Guy A records this shit on his cell phone and posts it on Facebook for all of C and A's friends to see
(cont.)
>>
>>30759214
(cont.)
but fails to post Guy B and A putting out the fire with a fire extinguisher. Guy Z, noticing the fire he started got put out fairly quickly, kicks in the door, points a gun at C and takes Guy C hostage. Guy A again records Guy C seemingly kicking Guy C and B's ass. Guy B, shortly after Guy A stops recording, tackles Guy C to the ground and gouges out his eye, cuts off his ear and breaks all of his ribs and limbs before escorting him out with his CCW to his head, so as to not anger Guy X and Y by killing him. Guy B knows that Guy Z will likely die if he discretely beat the shit out of him one more time, but by this time Guy A has already shown the two videos he took to everybody he knew, including the police. So the police arrest Guy B for assault, but leave Guy Z alone because of sympathy for Guy X and Guy Y; which leaves Guy C completely defenseless from Guy Z's advances. Guy Z uses this opportunity to burn Guy C's house to the ground and kill Guy C while Guy B rots in prison and forever afterwards, everybody calls Guy B a pussy for not killing Guy Z.

Sound complicated? So was Vietnam fuckface, memeing about the US not being able to kill a couple rice farmers is simplifying and generalizing the war to the point where it's not even worth discussing anymore.
>>
>>30753491
The terms of the ceasefire were the demands the north had from the start of the war, free elections(because they knew a communist win was inevitable) and reparations, neither of which was followed through on oddly enough.
You would have to be pretty deluded to not see the ceasefire for what it was, a way to save face for a retreat.

Eyes follow the barrel everywhere and it is always parallel to the ground. These jungle lessons die hard even in the open where it is less important.

At 30m visibility you can definitely hit someone from the hip. Before you come into the aim for more, step off line for more, and go down for more. And by then there's a whole section up firing including a machine gun.

It's not like working in buildings, you might need to patrol a month at this visibility. With all the extra gear this implies. You can't shoulder your weapon that long but you better keep that fucking barrel up.

Except it didn't work at all.

Laos and Cambodia fell to communism, and the US lost in Vietnam.

Of course the whole world wouldn't turn to communism, because the domino theory was flawed from the beginning.

oh, so the Vietnamese strategy of prolonging the war, and give the impression that this war would never end proved successful.

They won. Deal with it.

Haha. You know it, Saeko's a bamf. It was still an overall bad series but at least it wasn't as bad as the Vietnam argument here.

I only cradled it sometimes on long marches. Otherwise I held it down. Though my Lieutenant told me it wasn't ideal to march that way.
We had some retard who walked around with it pointing up, like he was some badass. Fuck that guy.
