I don't know how easy it is to obtain pepper spray products in Germany, but if you can't have a knife or a gun I'd highly recommend pepper gel. It's far more accurate than normal spray, has a range of 18 feet (don't know how that translates to meters), and is easily concealable on your belt.

If you have a gun and you believe the shooter is sufficiently distracted, the best bet is to retreat while firing at center mass. Don't bother sticking around or anything like that, just shoot like mad and get out.

Getting into a gun battle is a dumb idea, but firing a few rounds while the shooter is facing away or perpendicular to you is not a bad idea and you could potentially save a lot of people by doing it.

No. But we do say that it probably wasn't in the best interest of her safety to take such an action, and while she wasn't deserving of what happened to her, she could have avoided it by taking better precautions.

Your example is the exact same. You can certainly go to the mall and use the subway and all of that, but if you DO get slaughtered by a crazed gunman as a result you can't really blame anyone else for it.

Of course if you could actually do something to ensure the safety of you and your people that'd be great, but for now cowering away from likely spots of danger and taking the proper precautions is probably your best bet.

And for the first aid comment, yes you should. You need to have basic familiarity with sucking chest wounds, gunshot wounds in general, stab wounds, and protocols for dealing with critical patients/suspected spinal injuries/explosive victims.

The best information in a pinch however is: If you come across someone with obvious bullet wounds and they're conscious, apply pressure to the wound and keep them stable and calm.

If you come across someone laying still and conscious with cuts/bruises/etc, keep their head still and don't move them.

If you come across someone unconscious, don't even bother. Run.

Yes, this is true. You will note, however, that our mass shootings almost always occur in areas that are "gun free zones." Where la abiding citizens are disarmed by law and under threat of imprisonment. And because of socialists in our country who have spent decades indoctrinating the youth into believing that guns are inherently evil and scary, we have a problem with the younger generations being too stupid and brainwashed to understand why protecting gun rights is so important.

You will also note that we have multiple instances of these attacks being stopped by armed citizens before the attacks could obtain any significant body count or sometimes even any fatalities at all. And we have armed citizens shooting armed criminals every day in the United States, saving the lives of law abiding citizens all the time. You never hear about this shit because the national media doesn't care. It doesn't fit the narrative of fear that they are pushing, and it doesn't help them get ratings. Local news sources are your best bet to hear about self defense shootings in the United States, because online databases for how often these things happen are woefully incomplete and are in essence non existent.

But in the end, we don't see any armed Germans stopping mass shootings in progress because you people don't have rights. I sincerely wish you the best in your efforts to reverse this disturbing trend of civilian disarmament in the false name of "public safety."

Be gentle, just wondering out loud about how you'd take down a shooter when unarmed. Unarmed because either NOGUNZ or because the shooter obviously picks a place that they don't let you carry in. Like a festival, night club, school, mall, children's holiday camp or hospital. In a society with guns, there will be places that don't permit guns because it would make too much trouble (e.g. night club fights with guns?), they will be the softest targets for a mass shooter and therefore, lets assume that they're the target and you start unarmed.

An interesting question is how to react in a mass shooting if you want to try and win.

Is circle strafing a real thing IRL?
Can you run rings around a shooter to try and close the distance?

You definitely need to get close enough to disarm the shooter, either by running when his back is turned like a high-stakes game of spotlight, or by ducking and dodging, or by hiding until they're close.

You'd want stuff to throw, pens, coins, anything vaguely hard or sharp. Never stop to throw but tossing stuff at their eyes while running could keep them from firing accurately for a second and that might be enough.

At close range, you're just dealing with them approximately the same as you'd deal with a knife. I'd recommend sport aikido for that but other martial arts deal with weapon disarms too. Sport aikido is really, really focused on knife disarms and most of their techniques would apply to guns too provided that you start in contact range. Krav Maga and Systemica (sp?) both do gun disarm drills, probably anything modern does. So the martial art doesn't really matter, what matters is getting close enough to try.

Of course, none of this is necessarily a high probability of success, it only needs to be better than hiding until the shooter gets to you and shoots you. Which is how most of the kids died when Brevik shot them.

2) I'm told depending where you live, a license to carry it in public can be actually obtainable for mere mortals (some German areas are may/no issue while others are shall issue.)
