Closest thing I have to a "bug out bag" is my standard pouch for out door activity (survive a bad few days in the woods - lighter, matches, bivvy bag, sawyer water filter, katadyn tablets, small first aid kit, bug repellent, etc).

I pack peanut butter, marmalade, sailor bread and sardines or jerky into 1000-calorie vacuum bags and one goes in the pouch.

I only pack stuff I eat routinely, so I can rotate stock (Iike have a bag for lunch at work).

I don't want to bet on MREs being edible by not having them in rotation ahead of time, and I don't want to eat commercial MREs often enough to rotate.

I bought a MCI thanksto watching his videos. It was fun as fuck. I never thought it would be. I ate my B unit and enjoyed 47 year old chocolate and crackers. I was astonished by how well preserved my chicken and noodles was, and gagged a little at the terrible black nuggets that were once quartered pears. I know own what the inside of an accessory pack smells like along with the king Kong ride at Universal now. Chiclets taste great.
