I know a cop and a few ex-cops, they all started out basically wanting to be heros. The still-cop is one of those who on a "What do you want to be?" quiz, she answered Paladin under dream job and Lawful Good under alignment.

A few years of doing the job has completely changed her, she specialises in sex crimes and she's kind of proud of occasionally not completely destroying the lives of people she arrests. The high point of her ambition these days is to let people being v& for cp lie to their parents when being taken away. She doesn't really expect to do any real good and no longer really cares about protecting anyone. It's become just a job. She hates the victims for being weak, hates the people who call the police for being cowards, usually just trying to fuck over someone they hate or scared of shadows. She hates the public for being afraid of her but completely understands why they are. She basically hates everyone EXCEPT the people she arrests. The suspects are just meat in a meal for her, it's nothing personal and she often doesn't know or care whether they actually did anything.

The other cops I know all quit, tried to be actual heroes and make a difference and got bullied and harassed and fucked over by other cops who hate that attitude. The way they tell it, it's all the worst high school bullies in a gang and if you're not on the same page as you then it's like being the weird kid in high school but the bullies have guns and can frame you or get you killed or fucked over in the worst ways you can imagine.

Here in Ohio a few days ago, an officer pulled over to check on a guy walking on the shoulder of the highway (not supposed to do that). Guy looked homeless and was acting calm, but the officer wanted to check him anyways.

Right when he's about to frisk the guy (literally on top of him), dude pulls a huge knife and starts screaming for the cop to kill him. Cop immediately draws and plants one in the guys abdomen before getting some distance between them. Guy with the knife seems I phased by being shot, and the cops play ring around the rosie for almost 5 minutes until backup arrives. Despite the guy following the cop around with a knife the entire time telling him "I'm going to kill you, you have to shoot me!", he waits for backup to arrive, and they just tase him.


Literally all it boils down to is what mood the officer is in, and what kind of person he is. Some officers will risk their lives to avoid killing an armed man who just attacked them, others will shoot as soon as they see movement towards a pocket.

Let's be very clear about something. Cops don't have dangerous jobs, it's safer to be a cop in a bad area than it is to drive school bus. Asking police to accept a little bit more danger in the name of enhanced public safety is not unreasonable.


Focusing police training on the danger to police and national security threats like terrorist attacks has taught our police to act like an occupying army, to the detriment of public safety.

Police kill more innocent bystanders every year than police get shot in the line of duty. I'm not even taking about people the police killed on purpose for shitty reasons, I'm taking about the people police kill when they miss their real target.

- these bodycams need to be placed better. I don't have a perfect solution but there has to be a better place to put the cam other than behind the officer's head.
- again, when he's on the ground both of his hands are clearly empty yet the officer's keep ordering to show his hands; kid's in shock and feeling around for these new breathing holes he has in his chest
- If I were the officer sitting in the passenger seat I'd be mighty pissed at my partner pointing his weapon directly at me while turning the steering wheel (2:15)
