Is a full size service/duty pistol at all useful for your average Joe?

It's much less comfortable to carry concealed than a compact, and if you're in a home defense scenario you're probably going to be using a shotgun or rifle anyway.

What use is this thing to me outside of the occasional range adventure? Who else has a full size pistol and can help me find a purpose for mine?
>>
>>30737149
I carry full size because my hands are too big for compacts

Full size feels better in my hands
>>
>>30737166

What kind of full size fampai?
>>
>>30737149
Prior to 10 years ago, concealed-carry wasn't even a thing in many states. Now, it's all the rage among Republicans. We tend to forget that most people used to only use handguns for occasional target shooting, transporting them unloaded to and from the range in a padded pouch, rather than inside their waistband.

I guess I agree that large pistols don't make much sense for carry - even for open carry, I prefer a shorter slide, since that way I can have a relatively low holster, but it won't be awkward while sitting down. My wilderness defense weapon is a full size pistol, which I open carry on backpacking trips, and I like the fact that it has the full size grip and 15 round magazine. I think long slides really are only good for target shooting, though. There's just no need to have a barrel longer than 4 inches, and preferably a little shorter than that.

Glock 17
>>
>>30737149
The Glock 17 is hardly thicc, my friend. The USP 40/9 is thicc, the USP .45 is even thiccer.

Full size are more fun to shoot and not much more difficult to carry than their concealed than scaled down double stack brethren.

Please don't type like a retarded high schooler here.
>>

>Prior to 10 years ago, concealed-carry wasn't even a thing in many states
Yeah, because it used to be ok to carry open, but now peoples are such gigantic pussies they can't handle it.
>>
>>30737340
Please look at OP's image filename and then revel in the irony.

Or, if you can't handle these esoteric memes, kys and leave 4chan.

OP is a faggot too. That doesn't mean that you are allowed to behave like a nigger.
>>
>>30737373

Competitive shooting

Also pistols are more than adequate for HD
>>
>>30737373
>>30737392
Open carrying a pistol is completely fine. It was the norm where I grew up.

The issue comes from jackasses especially in the middle of suburbia walking around with mallninjaed ARs slung across their chest.

Carrying a long arm around when you weren't out hunting or going to a range was never common or socially an accepted thing in America.

It's your right but yes you look like a sperg carrying anything more than a sidearm.

>>
>>30737510
Not the guy you replied to, but yeah, I understand having a rifle in the car. It's a good idea, actually. OC'ing a rifle wherever you go is severely autistic.
>>
>>30737510
Shit, I guess I should carry a MANPAD in case someone wants to crash a plane into a building then.

OP maybe if you weren't a fat manlet, you could handle full frame pistols comfortably.
>>
>>30737149
They're good for innawoods, open carry, and possibly SHTF.
>>
i prefer a full-frame gun from a purely shooting aspect. i like a larger pistol in the hand. of course you have to make compromises with your daily carry, unless you like to OC where you can comfortably carry a full-size all day. this is the only valid argument fo OCing for me. it gives you the ability to carry a full size, high capacity pistol all day.

>>
>>30739545
I personally don't like the look of pistols. But I have to ask, what's the recoil like?

Does it ever feel like you're gonna drop the gun or that the draw back is too strong?

I don't like guns because of the way tv and movies make their recoil look, it pops back and up going completely off target or it just ejects bullets ( the later is obviously fake though )
>>
>>30737149

I once believed that the only pistol worth having was a full size pistol, but my opinion has since changed. Except for competitions and things, a compact does everything a full size does but it's smaller.

But full size pistols can still be concealed, they're just harder. I recently found a way to conceal my CZ P-09, which has the longest damn grip of any pistol I've ever seen. I've found that any gun with a sub 5.5" height can be concealed without much difficulty.
>>
>>30739676
That's just how it looks. No 9mm pistol has any recoil to speak of.

>>30737166
So you're saying you're a big guy?
Also, checked.
>>
>>30739676

Never. The only gun I've ever dropped from recoil was when I one-handed a 12 gauge. Didn't even come close when I shot a policeman's 1911 at hunter safety when I was 14, and I was teacup gripping.

In movies guns recoil like crazy because nobody ever uses a decent grip. They're mostly shooting one-handed. With a proper grip, the gun won't jump around during recoil, it will go straight back and come right down to where it was. If you're a new shooter, you're going to anticipate recoil and flinch, but that happens to everyone and you've just got to shoot enough and it goes away.

>>30737725

You guys don't have family at home on crew rotation for the mortar pit? I carry a satphone and dedicated gps with a ham radio in the car and make sure to rotate our sight-in landmarks every month in case of an active shooter event.

>>30739816
Topo maps and a compass are implied.
>>
>>30737149
IMHO full sized is useful for the average person (ie not a 7 foot 6 giant with ham sized hands that can comfortably cc a desert eagle) in a few situations.

>range time
>open carry
>home defense

IMHO compact/sub compact is only better in terms of concealment or manlet hands.

>>
>>30739712
Smallhands here. Only full-size pistol I shoot regularly is my dad's M&P but it always feels great in the hand, much better then a flock.

I generally prefer compacts just because they fit my hand better and the primary purpose for a handgun to me is to conceal it and for defendi myself until I get to a longgun.

That said I'd like some full suze semi- auto eventually for a range toy, I just don't see a use for a full suze other then that
>>
>>30739878
Are they capable of doing this? Serious question. I would think that police, aid agencies, etc. would need it also?
>>
>>30739704
How's the stopping power?
>>30739760
Is an AK pistol with a foregrip still a pistol?

I Donno shooting guns looks like a ton of fun but recoil looks scary to me
>>
>>30739909
GPS Satellites put off two signals, each with their own encoding and accuracy.

Civilian GPS can be toggled off either globally or regionally. We did this during the gulf war because there was evidence of shell companies buying civilian GPS modules for iraqi use.

There is GLONASS which works nearly the same way and the chink network that isnt complete yet as well. If you are buying a GPS for happening make sure it supports atleast GLONASS+GPS and ideally you want GLONASS+GPS+Chinknet

I carry full sized for capacity and having more gun to grab onto. The USP having a large safety and slide release makes them easy to find and actuate
>>
>>30739923

In the United States, putting a foregrip on a pistol is a violation of federal law, as is putting a stock on a pistol. Recoil isn't bad at all, depending on the gun. I was a little scared the first time I shot a shotgun, but after firing it once I was smiling. If there's a range near you that does rentals, I would advise hitting them up. Just don't pick some huge gun. I've got a bolt action .308 and not even 20 rounds through it leaves me with a bruised shoulder.

Btw, "stopping power" among pistol cartridges is a myth. There is no evidence to show that anything other than what the bullet impacts and destroys has anything to do with ending a fight.

>a few extra rounds
>longer sight radius
>if you have larger hands its more comfortable
>maybe a little easier to shoot

basically >>30737166. Its just more gun to have when carrying. Most people's main concern is comfort and concealment so they go for compacts or smaller, but cc'ing a duty sized pistol is totally do able, you just need the right EDC set up. Experiment with different guns, holsters, IWB, OWB shoulder holsters, ect. It takes some getting used to but after all the shits thats been going down I upgraded to something bigger then my .380

National Firearms Act. It don't make sense, it's just the law. Don't get me wrong, it does help you with controlling it. However, this law dose not prevent or relate to any crime that might be committed with a pistol and a foregrip. It's still a gun.
>>
>>30737149
>It's much less comfortable

No it's not. You've never carried before have you?
>>
>>30737166
This.

I just don't like the feel of compacts. Sub compacts are a complete no go for me.
>>
>>30743761

>>30737332

The USP is thinner than the glock. Even the g19 is thicker than a USPc 45.

Stop perpetuating thus meme.
>>
>>30743648
Glockfag here.

I have a Galco holster, and the only way I can properly carry ITW is with an over-the-ass carry.

Coats are out of the question due to living in Arizona.

I use my beretta m9 as my main HD gun usually. I have a couple shotguns but I'd rather have 18 rounds of 9mm plus a couple spare 17rd mags than 5 rounds of 12 gauge and a very large firearm.

Nothing wrong with range guns, I only own one gun that I would ever carry(ruger lcp) because it is tiny. the rest are range toys and HD guns.
