What do you store your weapons and ammo in /k/?

I would like to get one or two safes to store mainly ammo and maybe some handguns in. What features are important, what brands are reputable?

I was browsing craigslist earlier since safes seem like the sort of item that would deteriorate quite a lot in value once used. It is smart to buy one new or does that matter?

I have a RedHead 10 gun. It's all I really need, fits in my closet, cost me $420 plus tax from Bass Pro. I like it because it has a actual metal dial and not some cheap plastic dial or a plastic electronic key pad lock. http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-FireResistant-10Gun-Safe/product/1602111742/

as far as storing ammo, get some heavy duty cabinets instead of buying a second safe unless you think your fun collection will out grow what ever safe you own.

put your rifles in a wooden box with a lock on it, then put a cloth over the box.

the best way to keep your guns safe is to make them inconspicuous as possible.

Cool. I want to make something like that under the stairs in my garage.

Double lock fireproof safe. It's mostly for the antiques and ammo but the accessible firearms go in there when I leave on trips.

The contractor built an area next to the door mechanism for an electric opener and stuff, it has an outlet. I can access that through a small door inside. Someone breaks into my garage and it's death from above.

Easier to make your kids not be retards around guns.

Or at least that's what I'd say if it wasn't for the fact that your kids are going to have friends who you can't raise...

Anything worth anything I've got in a 24 gun Winchester Fire Safe.

The rest I keep in a locking expanded metal tool locker I took home from work when they were going to toss it out.

Anything you can buy in a bigbox store is pretty much useless, you are far better off hardening an entire room and installing a notification system so you can drive home and execute the person

He gets caught with one of you guns on his possession and youll probably never see it again

doesn't leaving your mags loaded fuck up the springs?

>>30741207
Yeah... Sounds like I shouldn't have them in the home at all .
>>
>>30741328
Constant compression does not wear out springs, constantly compressing and decompressing does.

Basically if you periodically rotate or relax your magazines you are doing more harm than good
>>
>>30741328

That's a 50 year old meme from the days of Vietnam.
>>
>>30741424
Or rather constantly decompressing and recompressing will wear them out faster that just leaving them loaded

It's a myth. Springs do not deform under normal use. They are designed to operate entirely within the elastic deformation zone, otherwise they wouldn't be springs. Magazines are a perfect place for springs even, they are contained and cannot experience any force that would take them to plastic deformation.

If you want to worry about anything springs may fatigue over repeated travel, eg sitting either empty or full is okay, but being actuated is bad... but that's also not really worth considering with magazine springs, there's no way they could experience enough heat to fatigue the metal and change the spring's characteristics to get them outside of their elastic deformation like a buffer spring may experience.

tldr; What's the point of having magazines if they're not ready to go?

>>30741328
With some older springs, yes, however most modern magazines shouldn't have an issue with it.
>>
>>30741225
Bought it off some guy on craigslist. It was part of a bigger piece that had a cabinet attached, but it was presswood and rotted away. I saved the glass section, put a background in it (it was just white slat board), and have it currently sitting on an old TV cabinet.
