I like stadiametric rangefinders. It's the only reticle I've seen that's ever made complete intuitive sense.

The Vortex TMCQ reticle would be my absolute favorite if it only came with mil- dots instead of hash marks. Otherwise I just like standard mil dots.

My favorite currently is pic related, though the lighted one in their 1-4 scope is damn fine also. Prior to this I was stuck on the GAP reticle.

Any slight atmospheric differences of elevation differences are moot for the type of optic and shooting I do so I use >>30730442 it's made for the m855 ammo I shoot and close enough to the 16" barel I use. It's not perfect but plenty good enough to break static clays at 300yards and hit a man sized target all day long at that distance. Past that is asking a lot from m855 or m193 as the deviation in approaching torso width spread assuming perfectly accurate gun and shooter.

I've used mildot my entire life and I don't think I will ever change. Simple yet sophisticated, elegant looking, and efficient in pretty much any and all settings.

It's almost like they were designed with rifles that shot a limited number of loads in predetermined barrel length configurations 99 times out of 100

I don't think you are putting a TA01 3x on a fucking Remington 700 in 30-06, or a PSO on an AR15 you stupid little nigger faggot.

Pro tip, those reticles even take a specific height over bore into account

The reticle subtensions are fine enough that they don't crowd the scope image like the H59 does. It's perfect in every way.
>>
First scope I ever used was the one my grandfather bought me for my 77/22 (which he also bought me.) It uses a wide duplex reticule, and though mildot and its many variants are more useful for many reasons, for general-purpose applicability I still really like how wide duplex is effective in a wide range of visibility conditions. Fine crosshairs don't obscure your target, and if you lose them in low light, the thick outer bars let you shoot pretty well anyway and give you quick target acquisition.
>>
>>30731459

Kek. Pretty good.

It's not as bad as it looks though. It's better than crossairs, since you don't have to dial your scope. You have to do your math either way.

>>30731516

Ebr-2c is great.

The tremor trees aren't too bad.

Takes about five hours for most people to get used to them. Its like a mosaic wall of TVs, the bezels at first weird you out, then look like molding on windows made of up of small panes of glass.
>>
>>30731185
Curious as to how you dope wind.

I'm sure however you do it or don't is 'good enough' for you, but that has nothing to do with which reticle is better than another.
>>
>>30731711
What are your complaints about the SWFA reticle or similar you've shot through?

I mean, obviously, that Horus reticle sucks ass as do all xmas trees.
>>
>>30731905
They serve a purpose. I shoot long range so they're incredibly useful.
>>
>>30731968
I can't know what "they" refers to in your sentence.

What is long range for you?
>>
>>30732055
"They" being Christmas tree reticles. And out to 1000 is long range for me. Eventually will go longer when I build a magnum.
>>
>>30732462
I shoot well past that no magnum needed, but I do admit to a liking for the 7 WSM.

In what way do you find xmas tree reticles better than spinning turrets? I can't ever see myself not liking shooting at cross hair intersection and the 2 horus scopes I owned were dog shit junk in every regard.

My ideal reticle would look something like this. Part mil-dot, part christmas-tree.

(maybe with tic marks instead of dots but I'm too lazy to draw that rn)
>>
>>30733107
is there a service where you can get a custom reticle etched for a scope?
>>
>>30733134
Not that I know of. I've looked into it a little, not to really do it just out of curiosity. "Custom reticle" always ends up meaning "choose from among these options."
>>
>>30733134
>>30733215
Contact a manufacturer and they'll give you a minimum number to buy for them to do it. Etching reticles isn't hard as long as you don't want illumination.
>>
>>30732573
My rifle is a PRS-style rifle so it's helpful when engaging multiple targets at different distances.
>>
>>30733691
I have a PRS-style rifle or two I think. At least if PRS-style means a custom action, MTUish profile barrel, tactical style Manners/McMillan/chassis stocks. I spin turrets on em, but they all have solid optics not POS horus.

What is your workflow with a xmas tree reticle?
>>
>>30734122
It's not like you need to buy a Horus scope to have the reticles. Pretty sure the NF Beast has them as options. I think some of the S&B PM2 have the Horus reticles as options as well.
>>
>>30734287

>>30735170
9/10 would recommend. It's a fantastic scope. The bdc is for 6x zoom and is pretty impressively accurate on 223/556. 1x is almost true but there's a bit of noticeable distortion. Not enough to even care about though unless you're a glass snob. I'd say the glass compares pretty well to SWFA.

That's so wrong it's not even funny. The lower chevrons are for distances past 1km. Also the proper scope uses 1.7m

>>30730345
The turrets are the only thing tailored to 54R, and you can buy mil turrets.
>>
>>30732573
Because you can't always spin the turrets dumb fuck. Different match rules and conditions, shots where you can't use adjustments, stages with varying distances and time to consider where you can't "just spin the turrets"

Shots when you are out of adjustments

You are a dumb fuck

>>
>>30736657
literally this

but my experience is entirely videogames

It has the least amount of bullshit in your sight picture, and you learn how much to adjust for drop and horizontal speed by practice and intuition.

I've tried a variety of different types of scopes in vidya and I keep coming back to this

More than just the dot on the sight and it causes microsecond delays on shot placement and results in accuracy errors. For example: A dot with 4 chevrons surrounding it, in the heat of the moment I found myself accidentally using one of the chevrons, instead of the central dot, as my aiming point.

It's a mistake that lasts perhaps 300ms, but that's a long time in twitch shooters.

The only time I think the scopes with these range measurements etched onto them are useful, is when you're making careful and calculated shots at a long distance - well into the 200+ meters range, and even in such a case, I think a dot reticle is still good enough for anyone practiced using it.

Primary arms also came out with a 1-8 for 380. It's not as good as the premium one, but I has better glass and internals than the 1-6. I'm currently deciding which of the 1-8 ones I want for my scar 17. It boils down to a 1-8 ffp for 1300, or the 1-8 sfp which has a Chevron instead if a 1moa dot. I really like the Chevron, but would also like the ffp. Also if you haven't seen it, check out the holoson acss red dot. Got in on a rs regulate on my ak104 clone.
