Molot makes the Vepr Hunter/Pioneer, which is the same as the Super but with a Monte Carlo stock instead.

Any reason to buy the super over the normal? I hate the look of the super and am considering the standard in 308 instead

Just to add on. The super vepr apparently comes woth a slightly different trigger assembly . I also hear it's more accurate out of the box but heavier.

They used to be 1k plus too, so 799 ain't bad. I own a square back vepr in 308 and enjoy it. Great fun to fiddle with but a scar will beat the hell out of it in accuracy....but then again mine was 599...

To the best of my knowledge the supers have a completely different reciever setup and I've never seen one apart.

I'd be safe recommending if you want to dress a vepr up like an ak or rpk get the normal vepr. I would not be confident on the structure under that wood

no perfect match as you probably know, but theres two closer ways (in the US) than a super vepr (off the top of my head):

-Buy and convert a saiga (Izhmash, Russia)
-Buy and convert a vepr (Molot factory, Russia)

Neither are perfect but both produce high quality rifles that are made in Russia.

does anyone have an opinion on Saigas vs Veprs? I want to get a 5.45 to do custom work on
convert the stock trunnion to a folding vz58, find a dustcover optics mount, adjustable frontsight gas block, and maybe try to convert it to 204 ruger.

If you want a vz folding stock your probably gonna need a saiga, as the vepr have the slant. Theres probably an adapter somewhere to bypass that though. Not sure.

Everytime I see a super vepr, I kick myself. I had the chance to pick one up in .308 for $600 a few years back and still regret not getting it.

Goddamnit I just did the same thing with a slr104 because I didn't want to miss out on a 5.45 rifle.

I'm not sure which one we'll see more of brought into the country first, so I'm not incredibly butthurt about it but still, fuck, I'd just been thinking about getting something in .308 too.

Had one and I ended up selling it. Mags were shitty, expensive, hard to find. Accuracy was 2 MOA at best and destroyed brass (I am a reloader). If parts break, good luck finding replacements easy. If you want a semi auto 308 I would look elsewhere. For around the same price you can get a DPMS G2 and I've only seen good reports about those.

I'd partially agree with this. Good 20 round mags are available from a dude in a shed (csspec magazines) . Parts are a bit of a grab bag...many parts are AK spec and everything but the bolt carriage, bolt, and extractor are easily available. Spare extractors are out there...but the rest I can't find. FIME group is reportedly going to import parts but I haven't seen it.

It does dent brass via bouncing off the dust cover, a typical AK affliction. And he's right about accuracy. thing is in the close-enough category. But mine was 599, a hell of a lot cheaper than the basic ar308. I see DPMS oracles are 769 but I know nothing of the platform or the gun.
