The answer is still the same: Defense forces do NOT deploy their soldiers overseas. Their task is to defend their country from external attackers, and at best participate in peace-keeping and re-building operations elsewhere.

Finnfag here, nothing interesting ever happened during my conscription.
90% of the time we're either scratching our balls at the base while waiting for an assignment, or scratching our balls in a very rainy forest at 4am.

We don't have war stories since we aren't in a state of constant war.

Did however get pretty close to getting rekt once when we were firing 120mm mortars up in lappland.
After switching positions we found the tail of a mortar round still in the tube, with the rest gone. Fucker had split in half when it was fired.

They don't go far without the tail, but I just it must have landed so it didn't detonate since we didn't get a face full of shrapnel.

The fact that we had field exercises isnt something amazing to brag or tell great stories about. It is all just big play.

It's certainly interesting being there. Shit and fun at the same time, but as you said, it doesn't make for great stories. For example in our endwar for example, we ambushed and destroyed a Swedish mechanized platoon, except that we didn't, because it was an excercise. It's the same kind of stories you can find from volunteer militaries, except that it's a whole level more boring and less exciting.

Because Finland isn't in NATO and we aren't being deployed to some shitfuckistan country to die for no reason.

In 2014 there was a huge heat wave in Finland, and it was +35C (95F) degrees outside where I lived.
I literally could not go outside for longer than 5 minutes at a time, the only good things about summer is being able to ride my motorcycle and all the rock festivals.
