It's 90 degrees and about to rain, can you even imagine the humidity in the midwest right now?

This place turns into a fucking jungle in the summer. The corn sweats and adds even more humidity to the air, the grass grows fucking chest high and everything looks different. Any part of woods turns to a shitty jungle.

Try spreading your feet wider and dropping your strong side foot back. I've seen guys who weigh 195lbs get rocked back by a 9mil because they stand like you are. Most of them don't even notice because they've been doing it for too long.

Gotta agree. I grew up shooting the old school way. Left foot forward, right foot back aka the weaver stance. And as much as I try to tacticool it with the isoceles, it just doesn't work for me or feel right.

Personally though, I think this is because I do MMA/Kickboxing, and I literally do that stance while fighting people. So it comes very natural and I am very balanced in that stance.

The Vegas strip. Went there immediately after leaving Zion. It was october, the temperature at Zion had been in the 70's. At Yellowstone the week before it had been in the 50's and they were closing it down for the winter. When we got to Vegas it was 11pm and 90°, my DCU pants were still wet and sandy from hiking through the narrows and I hadn't packed any shorts, had to wear blue jeans. When we went to Hoover Dam the next day it was 101° A local would probably think that quite pleasant but to a northerner like myself it was a bit of a system shock.

Video self shooting .2 splits and analyze if you're getting pushed back. At the very least your pistol stance in that picture is not semi-athletic at all. Here is a vid of a heavier shooter, with a slightly more athletic stance, shooting a comped 9mm, and he's still getting rocked back because his weight distribution is wrong.

>>30669182
Isosceles nowadays doesn't just mean squared up feet. Most everyone drops their strong side foot back at least a little.

From Vegas and Hoover Dam we made our way to the South rim of the Grand Canyon, after that we went to the North Rim, which is markedly more remote and takes almost as long to drive between them as it does to hike since you have to drive across half of Arizona to get there. After the North Rim we made our way to Bryce Canyon in Utah.

Looks awful in general. It's really dark compared to the Flecktarn here >>30667159
>>
>>30669430
If that's a pic of him shooting one footed, it doesn't do anything to disprove the point. His weight is entirely on his front foot, which is what people would consider nearly an ideal stance. As a matter of fact, Rob Leatham recommends shooting while standing on your front foot to find the ideal weight distribution, then putting your rear foot back down lightly. So pretty much all your weight is on the front foot and a tiny tiny fraction is on your rear, pretty much the same thing as in that pic.

Also I have a lot of respect for Pat but he is not the blazingest shooter out there. A USPSA GM will outshoot him almost any day of the week.

Then they've been taught outdated methods from the 90s and the MP5 days. Sounds about right for Muhreens. People have been shooting with the mod. isosceles stance (squared shoulders, squared pelvis, strong side leg dropped back) for decades now.

In ranger school I would use 2 gallon ziplock bags, I could fit 2 layers of my sleep system in just one, then one for uniforms. Undershirts and socks you want in smaller bags, also a spare set of gloves/fleece hat is nice. I would pack all the ziplock bags into a black contractor garbage bag, double it in another contractor garbage bag, and i could compress my shit waaaay more than anyone trying to use the issue wet weather bag. Kept everything completely dry during swamp movements and when we had to float our rucks.

You are gonna have to pay more for nice level III plates. The steel stuff has the same downsides as all steel armor, the UHMWPE plates won't stop M855. Try going to AT Armor or SKD Tactical. They both have fairly slick carriers available and fairly well priced level IV plates. AT Armor has some gucci level III+ and special threat plates for sale as well.

It depends on what your wearing. Ive been musing this exact same concept. A level 2 soft vest is about the best concealable protection you can get. After that, and its going to become more and more apparant that youve got something under there. If you want rifle protection, you gotta get thinnest multicurve lvl ivs you can get
The 3+ polyethelene plates were something i was looking at for the weight savings, but they're thicker than lvl iv ceramics.

Nigger, I've been in the suck and I know what 5 pounds can feel like after rucking for hours and patrolling for days.
That's why I needs me that light plate, though I don't think that the polyethylene plates will get damaged so easily since I'm not anywhere extremely hot or cold, in which case plates would be a moot point since the only thing you'd wanna protect is you're hydration/calorie count.

Perhaps these plates are the poor man's plate, but at the same time the plates that I was issued weren't much better they were heavy and could only stop 308.

Plus there's youtube videos of this plate undergoing "extreme tests"
So it's better than nothing I suppose.

Besides it would be hard to justify to my family spending 700-1000 on a plate, shit they already think I'm crazy since I dropped about 1.5k on gear within the last two months and much more on my guns and ammo.

>>
>>30674713
Then don't go off the III+, ask the manufacturer if you can see the test data. Unfortunately, the NIJ standards are not infallible, as we saw in the Zylon debacle.
>>
>>30674713
Level 3 can stop almost all 5.56 except XM193 out of a 20" barrel which is uncommon on normie ARs to begin with. Making the assumption that any given 3+ plate is better than a level 3, pretty much any level 3+ plate is going to be able to stop all 5.56 except for maybe M855A1 which is kind of a moot point. Just because there is no set standard doesn't mean that there aren't readily available 3+ plates that can easily stop 5.56.

That depends on the type of armor. UHMWPE level III plates will stop M193 handily but will fail against M855. Steel level III plates struggle with M193 but will stop M855 handily. The level III+ plates vary in performance, most of the steel ones are just "make armur thicc lol" or "make stel harder guiz", while there aren't really any 100% UHMWPE III+ plates, they're all hybrid plates of ceramic+poly or steel/titanium+poly. The Armor Wear plates posted are ceramic+poly.

you do understand theres .223 Savage's and Remingtons right? which basically every fudd will have, or a 22-250 which easily defeats level III and "III+"
and my issue with III+ is that there is no standard. a company could shoot a III+ plate 10 times with 5.56 and if the 11th goes through they could easily say "well it stopped 10 rounds of 5.56, III+"

while NIJ can be fallible it at least creates a standard to follow.
>>
>>30674856
You're right I'm drunk.
>>
>>30674859
If you have to bring up .22-250 you are officially grasping

Yes I know there are .223 bolt guns but they're uncommon. If a plate can survive 10 shots of XM193 then I'm happy with it. I know there's no standard, but there are YouTube tests. Buy a plate with plenty of video tests from a company with a reputation for consistency and you're golden.

I don't see any problem with it for civilians who will probably never need it anyways. They're a good combination of weight, price, and performance.
>>
>>30674915
I dont understand, why would someone buy steel when they can buy level 4 ceramics with the same or less weight for only around $20 more than two steel plates would cost
>>

Youtube testing is not really a substitute for independent lab tests from HP White or others. Remember that a youtube test is basically a sample size of one, plus the details of testing (eg: how is the plate strapped down, etc)

>>30675375
>bro, when SHTF and those .22-250's start flying, you're gonna wish you had lvl IV's!
Think about how ridiculous this sounds. Pretty ridiculous, right?

If you end up dead because you got shot by a .22-250 and you didn't shell out for ceramics then that's just shitty fucking luck. You're far more likely to get shot somewhere that isn't armored by any given caliber. I'm not going to pay hundreds more for a lightweight lvl 4 plate that I will probably never ever use just so I can have the peace of mind that it can stop .22-250 of all fucking rounds.

>>30675373
A lot of people use reversible lockwire pliers for safety wiring a bolt. That doesn't make it a common tool to find in any given toolbox.

A lot of people may use .22-250 for varmint hunting. But rifles built specifically for varmint hunting only represent a small fraction of total gun sales, and it probably wouldn't be very many people's first choice in SHTF.

Obviously their $210 per plate Ceramic / Polyethylene plates are going to be better than $250 for two ceramics. Did you completely forget my original question? I said: "I dont understand, why would someone buy steel when they can buy level 4 ceramics with the same or less weight for only around $20 more than two steel plates would cost" You then responded by saying any ceramic in the same price range "is going to weigh pounds more per plate". I showed you how this was incorrect and how the level 4 ceramic plates were actually more lightweight than the 3+ steel plates in my example and you dismissed my example as cherry picking. I then gave you an opportunity to show me 3+ steel plates that were pounds less per plate (refer to your earlier quote about the ceramics being pounds more per plate) and cost less than the ceramics (if you still cant figure out why I asked for an example of such a plate then refer to my original question). So you respond by bringing up $420 for two plates that arent even steel? Do I really have to spell this all out for you anon?

What I want is a lightweight, inexpensive plate, most importantly capable of stopping handgun cartridges (probably the most common threat in the USA) along with multiple hits of all common "SHTF" rifle rounds, namely 5.56, 7.62x39, and .308. The bulletproofme 3+ seems to fit the bill pretty well.

I'd be wary about buying a cheapo ESAPI off eBay, might have been dropped or something else weird with it.
I know plastic 3+ plates aren't the best in the world, but we're talking about something I will probably never ever need, and if I ever did need, would probably still be perfectly adequate. I'd love to have some $800 ceramics but I'd be better served spending that money elsewhere.

agreed, I got extremely lucky with my XSAPI's since they were 200 bucks and they were 100% fine when I checked them at a x ray clinic.

Your "shock and awe" isn't relevant to situations in which people use their right hand to charge a right handed charging handle, close one eye when aiming through a reflex sight, or order wine at a biker bar. These things happen all the time. If you hadn't ever been outside of your house you wouldn't know that was the case.

Vepr Hunter, I believe.
They look nice but they don't bed for shit in the stock which results in them being kinda shitty in general. The stock attaches both to the receiver and barrel creating some really weird tension that varies with the weather. The Super has the same problems. Under the hood it's the standard AK furniture attachment points applied to a full stock. The Hunter does have a fully adjustable trigger pack which is removable and is supposed to be quite nice for an AK. It also has a cutout for a side rail scope mount but I don't honestly know if it's a standard AK rail or if the placement is either.

Is your wood Ironwood or something? Looks way better than mine.

Do you feel as if the paracord is more abrasive than the standard metal? I've heard conflicting reports that it's actually more uncomfortable.

>>30681319
Yeah, walnut from Ironwood.

Paracord is super comfy to me. I hold a really tight cheekweld, and really tight to my shoulder. I use the cord to lessen the vibrations that transfer to my jaw.

>>
>>30681642

Alright, just ordered 100 feet, which I'm assuming is more than enough.

Both sides of yours are wrapped, right? What color did you use, for future reference?

Also, did you have shittier century wood before or the ultra shitty plastic handguard? I'm wondering if quality stuff from Ironwood is better at absorbing heat.
>>
>>30674667
1000+ dollar plates usually fall in the NIJ 06 range, which means that they go through very rigorous tests to be certifed. These tests include environmental exposure and plate drop tests, so you could say the extra assurance comes with extra cost.

>>30681722

>>
>>30681752
I did both sides in OD green. Theres maybe only 2 feet per side. Ive also seen people wrap the shoulder portion, but i did not.

I had the cheap plastic stuff before the wood. Wood is way better at dealing with the heat.
