Some of the superplanes in Ace Combat are so cool (despite being so good), I find it hard to use real planes.

Watch documentaries on the planes and read up on them and it'll get you into the mood to enjoy their characteristics and weapons. The unique planes are interesting because they're only in the games and their story is told in the games themselves. You have to learn about the real world aircraft and their stories on your own.
