why get something obviously inferior in defense-situations than say just a normal compact 9mm handgun?

She wont have a hard time racking the slide, also some guns you can carry cocked and on safe, so she wont even have to rack the slide if shit gets real.
Learn her how to use a gun properly and get her a good gun to defend herself, not some shitty 5 round revolver mate..

I have the 38 spl only version with hammer. She's great. Takes a little to get used to the "irons" but once you know how to handle her, she's accurate as fuck.

It's essentially the same thing out of this thing, I've shot the .38, and .357. The saving grace about the .357 is it's a little heavier, which helps recoil. This gun is light as fuck, light enough to almost hurt when you shoot it, and fuck follow up shots. I prefer the .357 but shooting .38's out of it, found myself on target easier on follow up shots.

The fact that that hammer in inside making the trigger pull really heavy is what makes the gun bad in my opinion.

Pocked revolvers are great but have a hammer so you can achieve a modicum of accuracy.

I have the .38sp version. Good gun. It was my second after my p220. I really should shoot it more.

1 issue I have is that the screw that holds the cylinder crane to the receiver works its way loose too easy. Needs loctite. Mine came all the way out after like 100rd .38+p

Get your wife to hold it, and possibly shoot it if she can. People who don't shoot very often are not use to the recoil, and she will have one hell of a time with the jump. She may not, you never know, but the only way to know is to shoot it. Some other alternatives in your price point might be the SR9C, Glock 42, things like that.
