Testing my ar, drop the bolt, don't fire the round, and it comes out with a small dent on the primer. I'm assuming this something to be worried about. Basically a firing pin seated too far forward.
>>
>>30636902
ARs have free floating firing pins, that happens on every AR ever made.
>>
>>30636912
So nothing to be worried about?

Unless you refuse to give your AR some TLC and gunk built up inside the firing pin channel or you bought some real horrible ammo with baby soft primers, it's not a problem.
Also don't point your gun at a retarded direction anytime you have live ammo inside it.
And don't keep chambering that same round over and over again. Shoot it next time you're at a range.
>>
>>30636902

100% normal, free floating firing pin
>>
>>30636932
Exactly. Firearms with free-floating firing pins will do this to primers. It's non-issue, except maybe to hand loaders.
>>
>>30636902
>dropped the bolt on my AR
NIGGER YOU WHAT? WHAT THE FUCK IS THE POINT? JUST DRY FIRE THE FUCKER IF YOU WANT TO DE-COCK IT. WHY THE FUCK LET THE FIRING PIN GO ON A LIVE ROUND, EVER? YOU CANT JUST PULL THE HAMMER BACK OR SOME SHIT IF YOU HAVE A ROUND IN IT AND YOU WANT TO SHOOT IT, SO WHY THE FUCK DROP THE PIN ON IT?

normal. but since milspec primers take more force to set them off than commercial ones, its a non issue for military. but i wouldnt be chambering rounds with a full power bolt drop in your house needlessly, especially with commercial ammo
>>
>>30637149
He's dropping the bolt, not the hammer.
>>
>>30637110
>don't keep chambering the round
This
It's Federal LE procedure to never chamber a round twice due to a higher chance for a FTF
>>
>>30637149
is this a ruse?
>>
>>30637545
im watching this show right now
>>
Check your head spacing, clean the bolt, check your ammo make sure it's not a cheep reman that someone over crimped.
>>
>>30637149
No guns detected

Generally don't drop the bolt on a live round when you are not at a range. Some .223 varmint ammo has proud primer cups that are thin and can slam fire on you when you do that. You don't want to slam fire into your roses, you'll have a bad day.

Otherwise, nothing wrong with that dimple. Often while on the range I'll have a live round ready to go and there will be a cease fire called. Yank the CH, pickup the round that was chambered and it will always have that dimple. I have never had a problem shooting that same round once the range goes hot again.

floating firing pin m8.
>>
>>30645758
isn't that what a fucking SKS has?
>>
>>30645656
It's because the firing pin is floating (ie not held back by a spring) so when the BCG moves forward there is momentum on the pin, when the bolt stops the pin keeps going and leaves a little dimple on the primer.

I've been waiting for some Gucci after market to "fix" this " problem "
