Gotcha, they are one of the best stocks around.
The caps come off by twisting and a pulling. They are tear drop shaped and the tear drop portion fits into a channel on the stock. You then just twist it and pull it out. Vltor also makes a stock with similar geometry.

Hey, I was in the same situation as you. I worked at an LGS for a while and learned that a stripped AR lower is considered an "unknown". Unknown also means you have to be 21+ to buy. I bought a private sale basic bitch AR and am going to do mods as I go. I would suggest finding a complete AR for pretty cheap if you can, and spend the money for the whole thing first, then do the rest as you go. I understand how money can be, and understand you might want to buy the lower first, being it's cheap and you can get parts as you go. There's really no way around this obstacle other than buy yourself the rifle itself. I hope this helped. Pic related is my basic bitch.

Yes except the lower receiver, just go buy one at your local gunsmith store because thats the actual "gun" part and you'd need an FFL transfer for your lower and its worth paying a slight markup for the lower locally anyway because if you don't you'd still have to pay the $25 for an FFL transfer since its technically a "gun".

Every other part you can have shipped directly to your house though.

So the last time at the range i found that I'm getting the flash light covered in um... fouling I guess. I have a jcomp and it seems to be blasting a lot of gasses back at it. -I'm in the market for an 5.56 AR that I will use almost exclusively suppressed.
-I'm looking at 14.5" pinned guns or shorter barrels with a suppressor shroud (pic related)
-Must have a forward assist (unfortunately ruled out PWS)
-Preferably has adjustable gas system for suppressor use (rules out KAC).
-Budget is about $2k, but it's not a hard budget.

Before you ask, I could SBR, but I'm just not sure it's worth it. At this point I think bullpups make more sense than SBRs, especially in 5.56. I will get a 300blk SBR or pistol later, but I want a separate 5.56 rifle for now that is not an NFA item.

What do you recommend? Should I just build my own?

I prefer M-Lok from a functionality standpoint but I do admire keymod for its "free forever" open-source-ness.

M-Lok can be made marginally lighter (whether it ever will be though....). It provides better cooling because the slots are dimensionally bigger. It is marginally faster to attach and remove accessories.

From an aesthetic standpoint, I think M-Lok looks better.

If you are planning on a .300blk build in the future, I highly recommend a SiCo Omega and its corresponding QD brake for a muzzle device. It's a .30cal can that outperforms most 5.56 cans with 5.56, it's rated through .300RUM, is full auto rated on down to a 10.5" 5.56/8" .300blk/20" .300RUM (not that any F/A .300RUMs exist), and the attachment options are excellent. It's also short and light.

With the one can you get your choice of direct thread, brake, or flash hider. The brake is excellent and the flash hider is pretty good.
