Ok, /k/ -- I know we often see shitposts about retarded new ideas for weapons and cartridges, so bear with me here:

Imagine a high-pressure pistol round with the potential stackable capacity of .32 automatic, the velocity of .357 SIG (or higher), and the bullet weight range of 9mm. Something with a case pressure of 45,000psi (doable thanks to modern metallurgy and pistol design).

The case diameter would be similar to .32 Auto, while the case length would be somewhere near that of the 10mm. With the pressure allowance, I think you could get 115gr bullets to .327 Federal velocities and 124gr bullets to .357 SIG velocities, and you could stack 20-22 of them in a standard full-frame sized mag held in a 9mm-sized handgun. Barrel life would be on par with .357 SIG and 5.7x28.

Is this a good idea?

Sounds like it would result in an ungainly shaped grip. Also pushing 9mm weight bullets at high velocity seems to result in underwhelming penetration when the rounds expand too much too fast.
>>
>>30609779
>what is fmj

kinda cool to have a cartridge inherently good at SD with just standard ball
>>
>>30609712
.30x30 straight cased.
Think 5.7x28 but .30 so you can get carbines to hunt with (in shit states) that are chambered for the same caliber as your armor piercing carry pistol.

Also, .30 caliber P90.
Plus more room for things to be made explosive or to have tungsten cores or whatnot.

6.5 would also be acceptable though the swedefags would never let us live that down.

>underwhelming penetration

This is dependent on bullet design. Federal Tacitical Bonded comes to mind. Oddly enough, some older not-that-great hollowpoint designs actually perform well at higher-than-normal velocities. Typically, they do need to be bonded bullets. Or maybe just use softpoints.

I like this.

Has to be "high pressure", though.
>>
>>30609852
Oh hell yeah.
I just want a chambering for the PS90 and Five-seveN that I can hunt with.

Also, it's gotta be available.
Also, we can use old stock of 7.62 NATO bullets to make it.
Think of it as a heavily modernized version of 7.62 Tok that's made useful as shit.

yessssssssssss
>>
>>30610025
Frankly we could probably just use necked up 5.7x28 casings to achieve what we want.
5.7 cases are larger than .308, right?
>>
>>30609779
>ungainly grip

the grip would pretty much a 10mm grip
>>
>>30610052
Nope. ~7.9mm vs ~11.9mm

so what are we looking at? 7.5x27mm FK?
>>

>>30609712
It's a breddy gud idea. If the cartridge was short&weak length, tho, it could fit in guns made for normal people.
>>
>>30610076
He meant, if it was a straight walled case, can it fit a 7.92mm projectile?
>>
>>30609712
327 federal Magnum already exists
I'm sure a rimless version would do well
>>
>>30610370
Too long for a mag-in-the-grip autoloading pistol.
>>
>>30610307
What about American Clown Penis length?
>>
>>30610334
Either way, .30 is slightly smaller than .32, but it's a difference in terms of energy transfer and bullet mass.
>>
>>30610248
Diameter is a little narrow for best energy transfer and bullet mass.

you're welcome.
>>
>>30609712
honestly the best thing you can have for any combat or self defense bullet is a sectional density above .226, highest velocity achievable with size constraints, and rapid yawing to make internal wounding the main kill factor.
Size constraints for a handgun would be around 1.5-1.6" overall length so the bullets can feed in pistol grip.
Bullets don't kill by crushing like a hammer, bullets kill by making you bleed. Bullet grain and caliber obsession are retarded. Saying a caliber doesn't give the full picture at all.
>>
>>30611415
No, but these are things I'm aware of. Too small of diameter with a pistol-length bullet, and you get ice picks. Too small with rifle-speed yawing bullets like the 4.6mm or the 5.7, and you also get ice pick like terminal ballistics. if you had a slightly wider but elongated bullet that could offer ~.5" expansion with near-rifle speed velocities and a mass which carriers it further into tissue, you'd create internal wounding. You'd make a bleed. Think about it.
>>
>>30610808
I'm digging this.
>>
>>30609712
You mean like a 30 carbine?
>>
>>30611782
No, not at all, actually. Just like 9mm Dillion isn't .38 Speshul.

9mm Parabellum is good enough.
5.56 and 7.62 NATO are good enough.

What we need is a rimless, round nose, 12 gauge. Like this idea someone tried to push a while back.
>>
>>30613727
Let me know how that headspacing works out in the long run
>>
You should look up 38 super 9x25 dillon, 9mm major, 45 super, and 357 sig. You might also try 32naa.

apparently headspaces on the case mouth like every other rimless, neckless cartridge.
>>
>>30613727
when did normal shotgun shells become obsolete exactly. this looks like a really good way to have a really unreliable 12 gauge for twice the price and brass to clean up
