Ladies and gents.

We are fucked.

Today, the law to ban any semi automatic firearm that accepts mags with more than 20 shots has passed with 27 votes in favor and 10 against.

The gun culture and gun ownership of Europe is now finally dead and buried. The EU bureocrats have managed to destroy civilian gun ownership while pretending that it will protect us.

Godspeed my fellow European gun owners.

so.... this doesn't even ban magazine over 20 rounds in capacity, it just says if you insert one into a semi automatic rifle it is now illegal? how do you fucking enforce that
>>
>>30607222
They will just say that any gun that ACCEPTS those mags will be banned.

Since pretty much ALL guns that accept detachable mags can have mags over the capacity of 20 rounds, these will be banned.

That's not a loophole, it's outside the law.

A loophole is an intentionally placed gap in the law. Like "everyone goes to jail for lying to congress except Hillary Clinton" if that were actually encoded into the law.

Side note: obviously the above example is not in the law. That makes it a "travesty of justice."

But that's what the law says isn't it?

Makes it kind of weird that they'd say 20 rounds then. Banning any firearm that "accepts" magazines over 3000 rounds would, legally speaking, do the exact same thing because any gun that can take a magazine could theoretically take a 3001 round one.

Why is it that states in the U.S. that have no standing military power of their own and have to face a powerful federal government have more ability to resist tyrannical laws individual nations all with their own militaries and governments? Literally what is stopping them from going "nah, fuck that shit" and doing whatever they want in spite of the EU?

Some states actually have laws that make it illegal for federal agents to enforce other laws they don't like, but there are entire European countries that have to bend forward when these incompetent fucks tell them to? I don't get it.
>>
>>30608354
Yes it's exactly what it says.
Fuckers used the same wording in a court ruling Germany, effectively banning all semi-automatic guns for hunters, since they could accept mags with more that 2 rounds in them (in Germany it is forbidden to shoot at game animals with more than 2 rounds in the mag when using a semi-auto rifle/shotgun).
And you see they said "semi-automatic GUNS", not rifles or shotguns.
BAM! No more handguns for you! Some states and registration offices actually did that shit.

BUT that shit got slapped down recently. Thanks GRA, thanks DJV.

>>30607684

IIrc this proposal still needs to pass the european parliament to take effect and I think I read once that european gun lobbyists allegedly have a good amount of influence in the parliament. So while things aren't looking great there is a good chance that whatever the commission drafted up will still get watered down
>>
>>30608472
The directive stated clearly semi-automatic rifles which can accept high capacity magazines or have a length < 60cm. Handguns are not concerned as pistol ammo doesn't have the power rifle rounds have.

Even if this law would pass, you'd still be able to own semi-automatic shotguns like the Benelli M4 or FN SLP as they have internal magazines.

The Swiss arn't part if the EU, just the Trade Union so everybody can get some Sig. They have always been against joining, killing a referendum in 2001 with a high 70% majority, and withdrawing their outdated bid to join in March of this year. (If you want them I have sources)

Switzerland is pretty based about most stuff.

Calm down everyone.
It'll take years until the final form of the law.

The situation now is not that bad:

-Registration of more parts of the gun

So what? A bit more ink in my license.

-10/20 magazine limit

It ist not said that every weapon which accepts magazines with rounds more that 10/20 will be banned. It's just the magazines. That's why Luxembourg is whining about it.
10 or even 20 is way enough. If you feel the urge to shoot more bullets in a row buy a high cap magazine and tell noone. The range owner I know would'nt care.

-Stricter controlling of people when purchasing online

A bit more paperwork. So what.

And Switzerland can keep it's militia as well.

Don't know what's the problem here.
>>
>>30608654
Okay, so the commission that voted on it today (Internal Market Committee) is a subgroup of the parliament, and the now modified bill will be present to the whole European Parliament as a whole in November?

Fuck you, traitor!

Luckily, the whole thing is a directive. It means that the different countries have some liberties about how they will apply it. I mean, there was already 91/477/EEC and Switzerland didn't apply it fully. We have no weapon categories, and very few restrictions. I assume things shouldn't change too much in the worst case. There's also the problem with the mass-immigration vote that passed in Switzerland and that is still not applied. I assume that as long as there's no compromise with the EU about it, there won't be any law change in Switzerland. Finally, the SVP/UDC has still an initiative in its sleeve, to make Swiss laws come before international laws. That would probably be the end of Schengen, though.
>>
>>30608824

>>30608804
It's written in this thread a dozen times but only for you: Switzerland is part of Schengen and took part of the negotiations with the result that they can keep their militia. Tradition or something like that was the main reason.

>>30608829

Betraying whom?

Of course there are some parts of the so called law I don't like. For example that psychological assessment every 5 years. But alltogether it is not SO bad.
Registration of the essential parts of the gun is actually the only reasonable part of the law. Won't make a big difference for a terrorist but you can't deny that it could (!) help stopping people from re-building disabled weapons.

Until it's final form the law will be weakened anyway.

You're the first person to say that, do you have a source? The press conference was very diffuse.
>>
>>30608679
The extra paperwork adds up, especially when you factor in bureaucratic "delays" (getting a gun license takes several months here in Canada, most of which is just waiting for your paperwork to be processed). On top of that, that bit of added paperwork adds all sorts of wonderful new firearms offences the cops can hit you with if it isn't up to date, filled out correctly, or the correct type. Extra paperwork is the roadblock these bastards use to dissuade potential gun owners from taking up shooting, so that they take one look at the process and say "fuck that".
>>
>>30609057

Are you retarded? The whole law must be fought.

Europe has one of the lowest firearm-related death rate of all continents. 1'000 die each year in firearms-related homicides and accidents. That's nothing compared to the 26'800 deadly car accidents on EU streets each year, or the 700'000 smoke-related deaths each year in the EU.

So, why does the EU needs stricter gun laws?

And don't come with that bullshit with deactivated guns that get deactivated. The French government placed the guns that were used in Charlie Hebdo massacre under Secret Defense. Which means that no one can investigate the guns' origin anymore and has to believe what the Grande Nation says. And as we all now, France's elite is not corrupt at all (oil deals with Saddam Hussein and Khadafi during embargoes, training of troops before Rwanda massacres...).

Eat a bullet you fucking traitor piece of shit.

The "it's only x" mindset you're employing has a distinct problem. AT SOME POINT X ENDS, and it usually ends with the complete ban on guns. But that's okay, because you'll be that faggot whose like, "Oh well what do we need gun anyways? We still have the police!'

NOTHING HAS BEEN DECIDED YET

This has to be approved by the plenary session of the European Parliament, which is scheduled for September.
And then it is slated to be discussed within the European council, which is presided by Slovakia at the moment (which is Czech Republic's little brother).

If Slovakia's gun laws are anything like the Czech Republic's, they're not going to be too happy with this shit.

What happened today was a vote by one of the bodies of the EP; the IMCO.
There are a bunch of countries in the EP proper that have already expressed that they do not back stricter gun laws (Finland etc.).
>>
>>30609434
There's probably more. Nobody can really say, EU politics is a fucking mess. And the voting assemblies are just the tip of the iceberg, I dare you to go and try figuring out how the committees and advisory panels and courts all feed into the mix.

The only good part about it is things can take years to get anywhere if national governments drag their feet implementing it, and everything gets interpreted about as many ways as their are countries, so what leaves the central EU machinations is probably a long way from what most places will actually get, which could be for better or worse depending on local politics.
>>
>>30609627
I also want to add that the original proposal has been watered down a lot already.

Pretty much the only thing that we can be sure will pass is the "better cross-border monitoring" and the EU-wide rules on deactivation and blank firing guns and shit.

Canada here
Noncompliance.
If it's on a massive enough scale, it will work.
It worked for us. They pushed us already with the bans and our right to carry. So when the long gun registry was rolled out, NOBODY REGISTERED. The RCMP looked at the number of guns imported, and noticed that it was nearly double what was registered. So it was repealed, and burned, and laughed at as a massive waste of taxpayer money.
Just stash your guns in the basement. Bury them. Hell if you are paranoid, just secretly destroy them! Just as long as the EU gets the message when they ask for guns and none turn up.

You basically have cunts number 1 being the commissioners, they are unelected bureaucrats running around being contact by political parties and lobbies, then cunt number 1 (a French contacted by the French Minister of interior in this case) brings his shitty proposal to bunch of cunts number 2 who are the commission (the cunts who just passed this and it's led by a brit right now, see the irony?), they discuss it for 6 months, give us some hopes and decide that their shitty text is wonderful and will definitely not help create a huge black market because of the no buy back policy and fucking over all semi-autos using box mags. Then it gets to the biggest bunch of cunts in the group, the European Parliament which is one quarter euro sceptic, one quarter greens, one quarter conservative and the last quarter jerks off somewhere. They'll vote if the directive has to be adopted by all our collective asses.

So you would say there is hope since the eurosceptics are a huge part of the parliament and we have conservatives too, actually no. the Eurosceptics are the biggest cunts in the bunch because they'll vote for more gun control obviously to prepare for the day they get elected and take advantage of all our Orwellian laws. Welcome in the European Union, shit's fucked.
>>
>>30609765
>three years
That's a staggeringly optimistic estimate for a decision on some intentions for what an initial response should include. If you want an actual budget to move towards something happening you should probably try at least 10 years.

Then again if it was a joke before then any kind of EU military concept is now way off into the realm of silliness. At present the only 2 countries capable of doing much more than play on their own doormat are Britain and France, and I don't quite see Britain wanting to hand over military sovereignty whilst heading out the exit door on everything else.

-ban of all firearms that look like "automatic weapons of war" : bye bye AR15, Saiga, Vz58, FAL, etc
-ban of all handguns that can shoot more than 21 rounds without reloading
-ban of all rifles that can shoot more than 11 rounds without reloading
-ban of all rifles which length can be reduced to less than 60 cm, either with a telescopic stock, folding stock, or a stock that can be removed easily
-ban of all category A firearms (although they are already banned in France, but they are trying to fuck up countries like the Czech republic or Switzerland by doing so)
-new deactivation standards for the whole of the EU, which have been in effect since april, requiring a deactivated gun to be fully welded and pinned so that no part can be moved or disassembled, not even the magazine. Even with the new deactivation standard, deactivated weapons that look like an automatic weapon of war will still be banned
-category D will be removed, and everything that was in it will be moved into category C, meaning that you'll need a license, a safe and registration in order to buy antiques, black powder replicas, deactivated guns, blank guns (starter pistols), replicas (including airsoft and paintball), etc...
-a special tax on guns and ammo
-the marking of all parts of a gun with a serial number, as well as the marking of every single cartridge in each ammo box
-ban of internet sales
-making it illegal to buy guns or ammo with only cash
-stricter medical exams

Sure doesn't look that bad, eh? Kys

Why do so many people treat this as a total gun ban, when it's just one type of guns being armed?
The majority of guns in Europe are not semi auto to begin with. They're bolt action rifles and doublebarrel/pump action shotguns because the hunting/fudd community is much bigger than the sporting community.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending EU or anything that it does. As a Norwegian I'd like to see it burn. But none of my guns are semi auto any way and very few of the hunters I know have semi auto guns. So I feel for the sports shooter guys cause they are the ones that will suffer. But that doesn't mean I am losing my funs because they aren't even semi automatic.
>>
>>30609001
This implies that civilian european gun owners have ever been a deterrent against invasion in the first place.
Protip: I don't think Russia has ever been afraid of the civilian gun owners. And our defense has always been based on the professional military organizations + militias that are organised and armed by the government.
>>
>>30611016
You do realize that this ban is going all according to a plan started by Cecilia Maelstrom years ago, right? That their plan was to ban ALL guns eventually, but not all at once. First semi-auto rifles, then handguns, then any gun with a magazine, and then they'll ban the few guns left.
Note that hunting will eventually be banned as well, the greens have been working on this for decades. Eventually, eating meat will be banned as well, nordic countries are already experimenting insects and algae to completely replace meat in human consumption.
Yes, while us sport shooters lose our guns, you'll keep your fudd hunting shit. That's the point, to not hurt too many people at once, so that there isn't too much opposition. Furthermore, they are saying to hunters "if you help us banning evil sporting weapons, we'll let you have your hunting shit for a little while more". But they'll come for your guns someday, I guarantee it. You might not believe it, until the day it happens, but it's going to happen, in 10 years at most.
>>
>http://www.coventry.ac.uk/Global/08%20New%20Research%20Section/FINAL%20EFFECT%20PROJECT%20REPORT.pdf
They funded a research program on the effect of firearms in the EU and literally came to the conclusion that
>More handgun ownership leads to less victimization, however being armed increases the chance of escalation
>Gangs is a big reason for gun crime
>It's more important to focus on criminal not the gun/weapon
>Most firearms in crimes are smuggled
>>
>>30611176
I'll add that some French politician (France is the main force behind the ban, by the way) said at some point about hunting weapons :

>do you think it's normal for hunters to have guns when they are old and have a bad eye sight? There should be strict medical exam who ban people with glasses from owning guns. Their guns are extremely dangerous, their Winchester (sic), can shoot up to 1500 meters, they are almost weapons of war.

The key word here is "weapon of war". Currently in leftist lingo, it designates evil semi-auto rifles. But don't worry, your bolt action will become a weapon of war someday as well.
After all, bolt actions used to be weapons of war in the past.
>>
>>30611075
The biggest problem with invasion and conquest is locals rebelling. Without guns said rebelling is a lot harder. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
>>
>>30611176
oh no, not the almighty Cecilia Maelstrom and her powerful swedish green party?!

lol, she isn't the only person who has wanted this, that doesn't mean her ebin master plan is in motion and that the rest of her plan will naturally unfold.

Make fun of the fudds if you want, but they are the ones with some actual sway in politics and the main reason we still have gun ownership. it certainly isn't the sports shooters who convince politicians to keep guns. It's the hunters.
And you're clueless about hunting if you think it will go away. The government actually sort of like us because we do their animal population control for free. The fauna need to be managed and controlled so that it stays diverse.

Who is gonna shoot all those cancerous wild boars for example? The government will thank us when we do that.
>>

the middle east failed because of middle eastern politics, western ideas on how to govern those countries simply don't work

from a military point of view, they wiped the floor with the rebels and killed people in droves
the kill ration in the middle east is insane, and the rebels are constantly defeated on the battlefield

that sort of civilian defiance doesn't necessarily require guns, it just requires a civilian population that will never do what the invaders want them to
>>

In America for example the militia/weekend warriors bring their own guns and ammo.
In a lot of european countries they are armed by the government.
So there will be opportunities to rebel. Guns are still going to be present. In my country the Home Guard has hidden gun caches for such occations.
It's just a different mentality and approach to the militia/reservist/weekend warrior. The average civilian with a mind to resist a foreign invader would go to the Home Guard. And weapons are still gonna be here for times of war.
>>
>>30611368
And your shitty below 2% GDP NATO spending goals military will be swept away like toys when the armed men without unit markings show up to liberate your minority Russian population.

The long term thorn is occupation. It's hard to operate a new territory when urban snipers keep shooting patrols and resistances fighters keep breaking infrastructure and bombing shit.

Look at the polish army vs the polish resistance in WWII. Arguably neither were very effective, but the resistance accomplished more strategically than the initial defense of Poland.

Most middle eastern countries have awful gun bans as well, and the rebels arm themselves with stolen guns taken from military depots and such which they have "liberated".

And if there was an invasion in Europen, I have a feeling military guns would be liberated in a similar fashion. The criminals here already have illegal weapons. So european rebels would get them too.

We're NATO. And by "we're" I mean team America force, who will save your sorry asses for the third time in a century if shit kicks off before 2018. You're welcome btw, but your resistance fighters feeding information, blowing up fuel depots, murdering Slavs, etc. plays a role that leads to American tanks with Garland's parading down your streets instead of T72s

Having guns doesn't matter if you aren't allowed to use them

>you shoot him
>life in prison for murder

Any country which doesn't consider "self defense" a valid reason for gun ownership, is by definition cucked regarding gun laws

If you DARE to ever vote for a Democrat, you need to be removed.

We don't need any freedom loving socialists shitting up our country so that we can sink down to the levels of Yuropoors. I might not like the Republicans on a whole host of issues, but holy shit at least they don't want to be Europe.

Then the Republicans need to stop being the party of white men. They're getting so outflanked demographically it's not even funny, and it's only going to get worse and worse as the Hispanic vote increases. Even in the South, the rise of minorities will threaten their traditional stronghold.

If gun-rights advocates don't start converting Democrats to their cause, they'll sink with the rest of the GOP ship.

You tie yourself to the Republicans forever, you fall with them.

No one disagrees with this, it isn't even pertinent to the comment you replied to because you don't really address what was said there.

Voting Democrat means gun rights get fucked. Voting Republican means that they don't. Once some of the older GOP heads die off and younger people come to the top, things might change.

Uh. Here in cucked, nogunz Sweden, there are still 600 firearms per 1000 people. Sports shooting is our 8th largest sport. Almost 700000 legal weapon owners total, out of 9.6 million. And MOST of us hunters own at least one semi auto. If they manage to ban all semi autos with a magwell here in the first instance, we're talking at least 1.5 million scrapped weapons in little Sweden only. Confiscated and melted down, no compensation.Which is a direct violation of our constitution, but EU doesn't give a shit about that.

But what is even worse is the 5 year permits they wish to impose. My dad is almost 70, how long are they going to let him hunt? Who is going to do the 700.000 extra mental and physical evaluations each 5 year? Our overworked shrinks and doctors? We have 5 year permits on handguns now and it fucking sucks. Let me tell you, I would give my left nut for an unregistered, suppressed rifle in .300 whisper, because this is going to go from bad to catastrophic.

Someone brakes into your house and threaten you or your family's life?
Shooting him is perfectly fine. Sweden has good self defence laws it's just that we don't are allowed to cc or oc around town etc.
Out hunting and someone threatens you or anyone else's life? Shoot the tucker.

Best example is when a father killed two seventeen year old guys who had bullied his son for several year. They came to their house and said they where going to kill the son. Baam! Dad shoot the first one square in the chest other guy ran, shoot him in his back.
Went after him and as he begged for his life on his knees killed him with a shot to the chest.
No jail time for the father. Beautiful.

>>
The amendment is a directive. Here's the definition of an EU-directive: A directive shall be binding, as to the result to be achieved, upon each Member State to which it is addressed, but shall leave to the national authorities the choice of form and methods.

Therefore, even if the amendment passes, member states are more or less free to decide how the directive has to be applied.

Then we need to make our own shooting federation, a bullshit tactical shooting federation. We also need to create a new form of competition that requires semi-automatic rifles with high-capacity magazines (ex. 30 rounds rapid fire on single target at certain distance, smaller grouping wins or 10 rounds rapid fire on three targets, smaller groupings win).

It's just a club. Any idiot can open a club. That's why clubs have no legitimacy in Switzerland. You can open a taekwondo club in Switzerland, but if you're not part of the WTF or the ITF federations then you are no one.

What we need is an organized and recognized federation for shooting with semi-auto rifles with high-capacity mags. It's the only way to find a way around the EU amendment. And forget the IPSC Federation. In Switzerland they mostly do only pistol shooting because there's not enough space for rifle competitions. And anyway, joining one of the few IPSC club is extremely difficult and very costly, and they are very snob.

So, I say it again we need the Swiss Tactical Sport Shooting Federation (SVTS Schweizerischer Verband für Taktisches Sportschiessen, FSTT Fédération Suisse de Tir Sportif Tactique, and the equivalent in Italian).
>>
>>30618253
Well this club is affiliated with the FST-SSV so it should work. I don't their exact terms with the federation though
>>
Damn EU parliament. It exactly knows that terrorism and crime are linked to socio-economic factors and not with gun ownership, yet, it criminalizes law abiding citizens and taxpayers.
