Honestly I just got a pair of doc martins. I broke them in and they're some of the comfiest foot clothes I've ever worn, and I can run in them better than I could any McReas or anything similar, but I'm flat footed.

Also they go well with any dressy occasion/clothes if you're not a child and know how to take care of a pair of leather shoes.

When it comes to boots what always makes or breaks for me its the platforms. I HATE boots with huge fucking platforms under them. I know that the boots are more comfortable to walk in with the higher soles but holy fuck when I see them I just think PolioShoes.

On the left are Mark III Canadian combat boots. I like the low bottoms on them. They look very neat.

On the right are Mark IV. They look like retard shoes. Doc martins also.

I don't know why it triggers my autism but jesus christ I hate them.

Boot upper construction peaked in the cold war. Unlined thick single layer leather is a far more durable, permanently waterproof and quick drying construction than modern suede leather, cordura, goretex stuff.

Soles meanwhile have actually improved, with their better cushioning. They probably sacrificed more durability than necessary still. (PU midsoles crumble if they're unused for too long...)

I'm talking from the pov of a private hiker or hobby /k/ommando here. Modern boots are alright for the military with the supply and funds to buy new stuff every few months.

Debate me faggots.

Danner doesn't make Acadias in tan or coyote anymore. Makes me super sad.

I've got 2 pairs of rivets (one tan gtx and one coyote summer) and one pair of tan desert tfx.

I'm a super big fan of danner if you can't tell. There are not many brands I'm super loyal to, but I really like these boots.

I wish they made the danner RAT boots for the Army. Those boots look heavy but super cozy and durable. But I'll just have too settle for the rivets until they get a good boot for the Army that can become resoled. The Acadias looked awesome
>>
>>30608513
your loss guy. I find my boots to be incredibly comfortable as they were given to me by my brother so they are about a half a size bigger than I normally wear.
extra support with tall socks and long johns for warmth and insulation

I am ready for anything
>>
>>30608526
Goretex takes forever to dry because moisture is usually in between the outer leather layer and the membrane (which also breaks the leather really fast).
Leather lining is just another layer of leather to dry (also, the part in between the two layers keeps moisture pretty well).
The only thing that would dry even faster would be a non-membrane synthetic lining (assuming moisture stays in the lining, rather than enters the layer through the lining).
Or purely textile boots, but these have their own problems.
>>
>>30608734
Comfortable they were not, but they were durable as fuck, lasted 3 uncomfortable years of being a police explorer as a teenager
>>
>>30608771
are you LEO? did police exploring help you become a LEO after primary school?
I am 23, no degree, but have been considering looking into the local academy and the requirements.
>>
>>30608813
Not LEO yet, but getting there. I can't speak for other explorers elsewhere but my program was a fucking joke, more PT than actual police training, and our leadership was incompetent, I was overlooked for promotion twice for the sole reason of not being in the honor guard. So I can't say my experience has helped me that much
>>
>>30609032
hmm I see, thanks for the input. I spent many years as a kid trying to be rebellious and edgy albeit adhering to some self-created "moral code" but in the last year or two I have come full circle and realized that being a police officer would be the only career I have ever been destined for that suits me well... but I have one hiccup which is substance use which I would have forego to be a police officer but I haven't looked that far into it yet

I like my bogs. I've put 60-70 miles of ROUGH rocky terrain on them. Held up good so far, and comfy. Breddy waterproof, but you'll want to spray them with some of that Campdry stuff.

Well you've never crossed a lake while wearing them then. Took at least 3-4 days to get them all dry afterwards.

>>
>>30608580
First place tie with oboz boots
>>
>>30608398
Boot uppers take dramatically less stresses than the lowers. The extra weight from leather will wear you out faster.

Modern synthetic uppers will last longer than sole, be lighter, can actually breathe, and won't need routine treatment of the material to stay functional.
>>
>>30608580
Currently using the 4d2 gtx civilian version for service. Great shoes, comfy, a bit hot in summer
>>
>>30609699
However they are really sturdy.
My two pairs are like 12 and 13 years old, only got the soles changed. With proper care they will last a lifetime.
>>
>>30607196
Yea you can resole them for the price of buying a new pair of boots. Danners for all their quality are too expensive if you're going to beat the shit out of them

>>30608638
You should be able to resole the 390Des
>>
>>30610359
Are the 390 des belleville's? I'm not a fan of Belleville, for whatever reason they literally eat my feet down to the muscle when I'm rucking or out in the field. I did a 25 mile ruck in the rain for army training and the entirety of balls of my feet looked like they got scalped by a tomahawk

I was wondering what /k/ would recommend as a good replacement insoles for a pair of hiking shoes or boots.
>>
>>30610693
Ever gotten a blister? Ever smelled your feet after working hard outside and then taking your shoes off? That smell is bacteria. If you have blisters from your unbroken shoes rubbing your feet to death, and then add in bacteria to the mix, your asking for a necrotic infection known as trench foot.
>>
>>30610517
Damn man, were they fitted properly? because belleville's sizing is weird, it's 1 size down from what you wear. I wear 9.5w so I wear 8.5w. They are pretty comfy except for this weird bend that kinda hurts my ankle on my left, but I can fix it.
>>
>>30606254

I'm thinking about joining the air-force as security forces. I have never worn boots of any type at all. ( Wolverines ) are the only thing I can think of I've worn for work.

How should I figure out what size and such I need to make sure I get get boots that won't fuck up my feet? I assume they're not like average shoes, or the wolves. Should I ask a recruiter about this? I don't want to make a fool of myself but I don't want to possible get boots that fuck me up cause I choose a size that's not right cause all I have to base it on is sneakers...
>>
>>30611120
Yeah, I got them fitted right. They fit exactly like most of my previous boots. They just ate holes in my feet. I swapped out the inserts and that helped, but not much. I now wear them in garrison though so not a complete waste. But they are really durable at least so no one here think that they aren't good boots. They just weren't good for my feet
>>
>>30611120
Also I got a pair of the Danner Rivots on sale from AAFES for 195$ so THANK GOD for that I ain't paying 320$ for a boot I can't resole
>>
>>30611536
Don't ask a recruiter, obviously you will get issued boots.

When I went to 30th AG the civilians were absolutely nasty and impatient with us. I did not settle for a pair of boots until I found a pair I could comfortably fit in. You want them bitches skin tight, but not so tight that your toenails are rubbing against the front of the boot. You will thank me later, because people will get boots that are nice and loose and they'll be begging for a new pair by day 2 because of the blisters.

I have an odd boot size but the people who fit your boots are professionals and will find a size that suits you. I've seen people sit at the same spot for 45 min until they found the exact boots that worked, and I don't blame them for a second.

That being said, all types of brands have different boot sizes so there is no standard size for any type.
>>
Seems like the place to ask this: I am going to be heading to basic training (Army, US) and was wondering what shoes /k/ recommends for someone with flat as fuck feet. Suggestions?

You idiots will never get it, will you?

YOU GET ISSUED BOOTS AND SHOES WHILE INPROCESSING. YOU LITERALLY CANNOT PICK ANY TYPE OF SHOE TO GET BESIDES GOFAST FUCKING BASIC ISSUE SHOES. SAME FOR BOOTS.

That being said, when you graduate and get to your unit, look into a pair of Asic's or Under armors for running shoes. Boot depends on where you're stationed, some have good support for mountains, others dry out faster. You can always buy new insoles but beware if you are going to be getting these boots wet (I doubt you will, you're probably enlisting to become a POG), you need to take the soles out of the boots so everything can dry.
>>
>>30611824
Boot camp is supposedly letting people get inserts during inprocessing nowadays from what I've been hearing. Although that might just be at certain boot camp locations

>>
>>30612734
We had people decide they wanted to quit while in 30th AG. We also had a female drill Sgt we named Mama Dragon and we made that bitch cry on the daily. Didn't take much, she tried to make fun of a pvt asking if he was picked on, he looked her dead in the eye and said, "Did you?" and she fucking stood up, got an inch from his face and barked him out of the room where 3 other drill sgts took over hollering at him. She then bawled her eyes out in front of us and we laughed our asses off.

Come to think of it, I appreciate mama dragon because she really just told us the truth, this shit isn't a fairytale.

Corcoran anyone? I have a pair of 1500s and 1525s. Still, my recent favorites are my Addison work boots with Biltrite soles.

How comfortable and how operateable are those jump boots? Cant decide between those and bates durashock
>>
>>30614450
No they won't. You fell for the marketing congrats.

Even then, when I was there in 09-10 there were only male DS's with no word of any sort of female DS coming.

The classic 1500s are pretty stiff starting out, but if you don't care about upkeep on the shine, pretty comfy. I'd recommend the 1525s if you're going for durability. The toe and heel are hard cap, while the rest is soft and thick leather. The Marauder model is similar, except in the Jungle boot style with replacing the leather with Cordura on the main body. My 1525s are my go to boots for anything rough, I walk and run anywhere from 18-34 miles a week, and the soles are barely worn.

Have a pair.

Used it for 3 years.

>Good for Canadian Winters (Slush, snow, ice, black ice, etc
>Good for summers (Used it for my Summer trip in Hong Kong)
>Breathable af. Good for extended periods of time. Did archery in above conditions for 3+ hours.

I also added Dr. Schools gel pads that made it comfy af.

I bought a pair for my dad as well.

>>30612437
dad? but seriously my dad owns boots that look like that.

>>30614055

Top 1500s, bottom 1525s. Not much of a perspective, but you can tell how well the 1525s have held up for me. I bought the pair new mid February last year.

Altama makes the best, but they only sell to the military even though they've been outlawed since like 2005 or some shit. Retarded.

They're still handy on Texas ranchland
>>
>>30618452
Sure, but there are cheaper and better alternative's. I love those boots especially the stovetop ones, but they arent really realistic.

Mein neger. I have a pair of pic related. I haven't had them for long, but so far they are great and have excellent ankle support. I wouldn't suggest using them on a bike though...found that out the hard way.

Took a pair of Lowa renegades gortex for a two week military drill. they held up nicely to an unforgiving beating but are not suited for hot weather.
Maybe i should've gotten leather-lined instead
