I'm looking for an innawoods hydration daypack. Can I do better than this one from Gander Mountain? Camouflage patter should be suitable for north and central Pennsylvania.

i like source bladders. so buy a source pack is my suggestion. better than camelbak or usgi at least. '

I'm seeing a lot of reviews saying "poor stiching" and "straps broke"

and given how cheap it is, I'd think that this is a poorly made pack. give it a pass

What plate carrier would you recommend for urban use?

How much carry space do you want? A camelbak with a couple of pockets is a decent daypack if you're going light.

A USGI assault pack is underrated when it comes to medium carrying for a daypack. I used to have an Eagle Industries Airborne assault pack, and it was pretty nice. It was OD and had a line of ALICE webbing, so you could still attach some pouches, but to normies it looks more old timey milsurp rather than attention grabbing tacticool.

You could always go for a Mystery Ranch trizip. They are great, but very expensive desu. Only recommend if you are going to seriously use and abuse the pack. They come in camo, tan, and you can find old ones in foilage green (grey).

As an aside, there is nothing wrong with medical aid on a pack, but IMO the primary ones should be on your body, on a belt or loadbearing or whatever you wear most. Even if you're being non-tacticool, just loop the medical pouch into your normal belt for innawoods.
>>
>>30571078
any of them? i mean urban vs any other environment doesn't really dictate what kind of plate carrier you need just what color it is.
>>
>>30571092
where is a scrub to start as far as what all should attach to the plate carrier?

Ammo is one thing as well as a med kit. Anything else I should focus on for chimp hit the fan?

well first of all do you even want or need a plate carrier?
they are heavy and expensive and if you are properly using cover and concealment and avoiding being shot at all together then they are basically a hindrance. however they can save your life and look cool as fuck.

typically the most important things are ammo, water, and medical. radios are a good idea if you have a group of people you are gonna be working with.

but you really want to focus first on ammo. you want to carry as much ammo as you think you are gonna need in a comfortable and easily accessible way. It's also important to carry water if you are planning on actually doing shit while wearing 30lbs strapped to your chest. And medical gear and training on how to use it is really important. just because you are wearing armor doesn't mean you wont get shot in the arm or leg or stomach. You can spend thousands on fancy gear and still get shot and bleed out by some nigger with a hipoint.

where should you start? you should clearly define what you want and what you want to use it for. what is your environment, what are you likely to be doing while in this gear? are you planning on having a vehicle or hiking long distance? what kind of gun do you have?

you gotta really hone in on what your needs/wants/purpose is and we can help you out.
>>
>>30571241
>want/need
Yes. Just keeping it in my vehicle since I live nearaDetroit where BLM gets retarded

>cover & concealment
Im aware. I know its not wizard armor that lets me run into the fight. Id just like not to die if shot center mass. Speaking of which, side plates or no side plates?

>typically the most important things...
got everything covered except for medical and radios. Never would have thought of the radios.

>where should you start?
If i have to leave my home because shits getting hectic, I want everything I need to survive on me.

>Environment
Urban/suburbs

>firearm
AR or MP5K SBR. Torn between which to use. One is much smaller than the other.

>what are you doing
driving away, on foot if crowds/traffic/ etc gets bad. Go inna nearby woods or wearhouses I have access to, likely on the roofs. longest distance is 5 miles. Luckily there are woodlands I can travel through to get to and from most places I aim to go.
>>
>>30571078
something slick and minimalist. keep in mind, you will need low profile multicurve plates too. without all my padding in, my pc is teeny tiny. but my single curve plates make it sit at a weird angle, ruining any chance at concealment.

missed this reply. so this isn't some edc shit, this is slip on. literally any good quality plate carrier will do then. we need a budget

i would like to have side plates, but they're heavy and that means spending MORE money, so I don't wear them

Radio isn't an essential, because not everyone needs one. Are you a solo act? In my unit, joes don't get radios, only team leaders and up. so i don't wear a radio, and while I know how to use and program one, I don't "train" with radios.

why not both? the mp5k being small and easy to hide, is the "get home gun" then, your rifle at the house is your weapon of choice. unless you don't have both yet, in which case, stick with the rifle.
>>
>>30571608
I keep the MP5 in my back pack like a typical white kid so I guess I should stash some more stuff in there as a get home bag. Maybe even have a second minimalist plate carrier in the bag. Never gave a get home bag a thought. Thanks for the suggestion.

Anything else I should throw in the bag? Its just an ordinary back pack, nothing that screams "steal this bag to acquire guns"

I currently have both but dont know which would be more suited for urban use. Both on at once seems a bit excessive but Im not too sure.

I would go with a slick concealable plate carrier and a backpack, maybe with a chest rig in the bag.

high end would be something like pic related with a haley dc3r clipped into it and some osprey or arcteryx backpack.

low price but solid would be a cheaper slick plate carrier
and a chicom chest rig and any backpack you can afford.

if you are planning on fleeing city to the woods you will need a lot more not shooting related gear. you need a full bug out bag/backpacking bag for several days.

here are some examples of slick plate carriers. both of them have the clips you need to use modern chest rigs use and they are wildly different in price. both are good companies.

http://www.perrozdesigns.com/shop/equipment/low-profile-slick-plate-carrier/

http://762tactical.com/vests/slick-plate-carrier.html

really if you are trying to avoid dindus and then live in woods/outskirts of town. its more important that you don't draw attention to yourself and that you have the equipment to survive and be some what comfortable as well as defend yourself.
>>
>>30571708

Thanks for the suggestions. Ive been looking around for plate carriers lately trying to find the best one for the price but know nothing of them. Are there any brands to avoid?

Im mainly looking for one with molle webbing

Hey guys, recently stumbled on the arc'teryx leaf khard 60 pack, i really like the idea of being able to conceal an assembled carbine as well as innawoods shit. While I'm sure its worth the 600 bones, are there any other packs that can do the same thing for less?

well you want to avoid condor, rothco, ncstar because everything is single stitched and they have bad quality control, it will fall apart, and because its a meme and everyone will make fun of you.

there are a ton of good companies tho. I have a shellback tactical banshee, it's and older one that is 1000d cordura and it was cheap. Banshees are/were like the cheapest "good' plate carriers for a while and a lot of people have them. I know a lot of people have rigs from skd, crye, LBT,beez, ferro concepts, perroz designs, 7.62 tactical, high ground gear, blue force gear, first spear, 5.11, voodoo tactical.

you just got to shop around and lurk gear threads.
>>
>>30571916
>voodoo tactical
From personal experience with their mag pouches, they're decent. Although from what I've heard from other people, their chest rigs, plate carriers, etc. are garbage.
>>
>>30572356
i have no experience with them. I've seen people with them. but you have better information on them if someone directly told you they were shit. they do kinda seem like on of the big high volume companies that would cut corners.
>>
>>30571916
Just looked into 5.11. They only had like 2 plate carriers to choose from but seemed quite small.

Seeing the tactical vest, how do you feel about a tac vest over a plate carirer vs a plate carrier with molle webbing?

What's a good grayman pack for holding my IBA vest, Draco pistol with wrist brace, IFAK, hydration pack, and pistol belt with Taurus PT-92, AK mags, and pistol mags in my vehicle? I currently have a sturdy olive drab duffel I got at an army-navy store, but OD isn't very grayman.

well chest rigs, load bearing rigs, and vests are great. they are lighter weight and can be really comfortable. But they aren't bullet proof. i actually have like 9 chest rigs. But i they also don't fit as ridged as a plate carrier with molled pouches and they don't look as cool.

when i go backpacking i wear a chicom chest rig because it's cheap durable and light. If i had to do any kind of operating innawoods during shtf i would want a chest rig and a rucksack. If i was innacity going into buildings i would want a plate carrier.
>>
>>30571708
just the way he said shtf and bugout makes me feel like he's not wearing it everyday, it's something he keeps in his car just incase, like an active shooter set up. in which case, i'd say fuck conceal-ability.

You could also look into just a chest rig. I use a TAG Gladiator. It's bretty gud. Has held up well when I've taken it out, is fairly comfy, and carries everything I need. The Gladiator has a build in hydration carrier and some people on this thread will say you should get a detachable, but honestly it's all down to personal preference. Don't get a plate carrier unless you fully intend to get armor to go with it. If you don't really intend on getting armor go with a chest rig or an lbv. I don't need armor so I just got the chest rig. Plus with mine it can go over armor so I have options down the road. There are a lot of chest rigs that are more than capable of doing this and other anons of listed quality brands earlier.

well that's and option too. Idk if i would want to be white in detroit during habbings. being really overt would probably work as well as being concealed. I won't weigh in any more than this, because AR500 discussion are always a shit show. I will just say that no military with regular access to ceramics uses steel. That should say something.

Similarly, all the reasons cited for steel/against ceramics, primarily "ceramics crack if you drop them" are disproven again by the fact that ceramics are trusted as mass issue to troops who use them day in and day out.

The idea of "multihit" is the most popular meme for steel plates, but it ignores that ceramics are also multihit, and that if a steel plate is getting hammered with more multihits than a ceramic can take, all the coating is going to be gone and you'll be getting spall, primary, or secondary frag to your body negating the ability to take a ton of hits.

The only thing in steel's corner is that it is cheaper. If you're buying plates though, don't cheap out. And if you do cheap out, don't try and pretend like what you got is comparable to ceramics.

NO, DO NOT DO THAT.

i own AR500 and regret it every fucking day. It's stupidly heavy and the company has done 3 different recalls because their quality control is shit and they make plates that can't hold up to their rating. 5.56 can zip right through some of the plates. I feel so dumb now that i've learned more about gear and if i hadn't bought those plates i could have afforded really nice ones.

here is a cheap ceramic level IV alternative

>>30572504
doesn't it get sweaty under it?

>>30572572
it will make you look like a threat and that makes you a target just as much as it defends you. A group of niggers looking to kill whites or cops aren't going to be scared to attack a lone man with a rifle if they are in a big group. you might be able to fight them off but you will still have to fight which is a situation you want to avoid.

Gotcha. Yeah I'm AD and my job has me wearing a giant IOTV and ceramic plates. The guys I work with range from mouth breather to pretty smart so I've gotten at least one mention of every plate on the market with no conclusive answer. I abuse the fuck out of the issued level 3s they gave us and have no problem with grabbing ceramic since I know they are grunt proof. Thanks for the input. Any recommendations or is that going to cause a shit show too?
>>
>>30572659
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into it. I don't know how many times a person expects to be shot expecting the shots on the plate itself.

Chances are if a bullet its you, more will and it will only be a matter of time before you're struck somewhere to incapacitate or kill you.

With that said, being able to take multiple hits isnt the biggest concern in the world. Im guessing the ceramic is lighter than steel? The way I see it, the lighter, the more mobile, the less risk of being shot.

>>
>>30572730
ESAPI are bretty proven. Anybody that makes NIJ certified plates is going to be good, just make sure to read the fine print and make sure that plates are *actually* certified up to the level they claim. Sometimes the marketing will strongly imply certification without actually saying it.

If you want a full armor vest, I can say from experience that the Eagle CIRAS land is great. It's basically an IOTV, but not all retarded. I had Safariland soft armor, which is about 1/3 as thick as USGI soft armor, and it was much easier to move and shoot compared to a Gen-2 IOTV with USGI armor in it.
>>
>>30572823
Neat. Thanks. I fucking hate my IOTV and already ordered an AWS carrier. Probably just going to pull out my plates from my IOTV and slap them in for the time being as my current duty location has no threat of me getting shot. Still have to turn them in when I get out of the service in two years so I've got time to get replacements. Plus if SHTF I'm going to be AWOL anyway because of how far I live from base so free plates for me.

Bunch of the Eberlestock backpacks have a rifle scabbard between the bag and framesheet. They're designed for precision/hunting boltguns but with the muzzle pouch zipped up and the butt cover either removed or tucked into the scabbard they fit a 14.5 carbine quite well.

Surefire scout mini. About $250 at skd.

The new streamlight railmount 1. $90ish.
>>
>>30574055
That shit is not small at all.
>>
>>30574063
Yeah they are. M300 and railmount 1, not M600 and railmount 2.

3oz, 4" long, less than an inch tall. They're smaller and lighter than a tlr1.
>>

>4" long, less than an inch tall

I don't think you understand dimensions very well.

Seriously m8 the M300 is a small light by long gun standards. Maybe you should give some reference in terms of size instead of just saying "super compact" and expecting everyone to have the same ideas you do.

Wha? He was correct though. M300 is the second smallest weaponlight, xc1 is the smallest.

That guy didnt want to pay $300 for an xc1.

So anon recommended the next smallest, which is a bit cheaper, andbthe third smallest, which is a quarter as much.

Cant recommend shit that doesn't exist.

And you were being an ass.

You've got the wrong guy m8.

Although I have experimented with rigging flashlights to rifles before.

The problem I kept running in to is small flashlights have fuck all for beam throw. A 200 lumen, high end pen light wont give enough throw to PID a person at 20 feet, and anything bigger than a pen light really only fits on most rifles in a ring mount and thus adds considerable bulk.
>>
>>30574474
>Dump pouch? Compact?
Not trying to be shitty here.
compact means no rigidity, meaning the mouth flops all over the place, doesn't stay open, made of a single layer of frabric.

I've seen a few like this and some that were basically a dice bag on your 7 or 8 oclock.

Why the backpack, if it fits your stuff, reorganize or get a different set for things. Your BP will hold food, loose ammo, tarp/shelter, radio etc.

Those go in the front small pocket on the backpack and is a sealed kit with spare pressure bandages to either be used while I'm hiking/camping, or as a refill for my IFAK (I'm a little paranoid about not having enough medical stuff, yes I have training). My IFAK is 2 rolls of gauze, 1 roll of quick clot, H&H pressure bandage, Naso/lube, TQ, duct tape, sharpie, and gloves.

None of what is laid out is supposed to be in the jacket, I just wanted something to lay it on and save space to fit in the photo. The jacket is rolled up on top of the blanket in the large pocket of the backpack with room to spare to add enough food for 24hrs and a small tarp/tent half if I need it. Work provides the radios and they're just Wal-Mart walkies that I clip into a MOLLE loop or onto my belt.

Everything else are comfort items that go in the middle pocket.

>hyrdo pack
3L

>range kit or combat kit
Combat(in the sense that I'll probably never see combat, but I would rather be prepared), but within the purview of security work. Which is why it's not geared for anything longer than 24hrs.

Good on you, I kinda wish I had more than shit on hand to tourniquet and or bandage shit. For the past week my dad has drain half my gauze, topical analgesic, bandages, alcohol prep pads etc. He got bit by a brown recluse on the neck and shit has eaten half of my applyable medical kit. Prep your kit for extra numbzicain and other analgesics, extra 4x4 gausexpacking gauze etc.

Go for a combat action tourniquet or several. I hear guys in Afghanistan keep several in case of IEDs.

Take my story and learn from it. People are a pain to deal with. Make sure you have gloves, topical analgesic, alcohol prep pads, extra razors/scalpels, and gauze. A simple thing like a spider bite can turn into backyard surgery. When there is no doctor, there's you.

Get a mix of Tylenol with delayed release (helps keep fever low) and ibuprofen. Asprin is good if you have no kids since it works better than ibuprofen/naproxen sodium. Thing is, fucking retard syndrome (rye syndrome) with kids who take it when they get chicken pox.

If you want my honest take on it. Get a lot of first aid, then get 4x4 or large gauze for GSW/ general laceration, packing gauze, etc. Finally you need 2 tubes of tooth number (benzocain 10%) and any pills/ antibiotics you can get a hold of. I only have penicillin, I had to use the amox last time my brother got bronchitis. Ernst, basic medical knowledge turns you into the family doc. Get good while you still can.

I'm 6' 3" ~175 pounds. Have a Shellback Banshee, a Blackhawk Lo-vis PC and a large IBA. I have a long, skinny torso so I have to cinch the PC's way down to get the top of the plates to my collarbone and then they bottoms sit rather high above my belly button. As for flaks coming out of basic back in the day I weighed 155 and could squeeze into a small IBA. Once I filled out a bit I wore a medium. Pain killers/fever
Tylonol works best for fever and general mild joint pain
Iburofen works great for sinus headaches and swelling
Naproxen is for authritus/general pains and swelling
Asprin is for fevers and swelling and migrains.

Plan what you need/expect. What are you expecting? Sprained ankles? Naproxen and Asprin will cover those. Ibuprofen irritates the stomach more as compared to naproxen (in my book at least)

Bandages, you need a few for cuts on fingers and a split knuckles and palm shit.

Gauze 4x4 gauze x10 to put under large bandages or soaking puss/blood.

Israeli bandages, you need 1 at least for GSW for yourself. Maybe 2 or 3 depending space.

Then you need packing gauze. Just a roll of stupid gauze.

Quick Clot is up to your discression.

Eh, I think I exaggerated. I got it in May or June of 2014 and I sold it last month. So about 2 years. I didn't mind the tubes for the cumberbund, but the should straps got in the way and it was physically painful having them dig into my shoulders when I shot my pistol and I couldn't shoulder my rifle with them. It would just slide off.

I also hated the way the cumberbund adjusted, switching from warm to cold weather or cold to warm weather was always a pain in the ass having to dig out the back and guestimating. Having to do that 2 or 3 times to get a good fit.

Might not be the best thread, even worse since it's summer, but I'll ask anyways

Anyone have or know anything about the Brandit BW parka jackets? I browse Verusteleka periodically and last winter I almost bought one of these for myself, since it's hard to find good jackets with real full size hoods. The liner looks comfy as fuck and I want to trust the Finns at knowing how to winter. Only problem is I can't find hardly any reviews online and since I'm in the US odds are not good I'll find any store that carries them to try them on

https://www.varusteleka.com/en/product/brandit-bw-parka-black/30008

As an offering for answers my next post will be the only known pic of me gear-queering

Tfw don't live near a place with spoopy woods thats cold year round for operating with friends
>>
>>30578956
And do you realize why we have massive wildfires?

Because since the 1940s the federal government has been feeding everyone the same bullshit story that fire was bad for the environment. This lead to buildup of fuel in the forest and inevitably this shit show we see today. If regular prescribed burns had been applied then when it finally burned unexpectedly it would just be a low - moderate intensity fire.

>At least that's how its been in the U.S.

I'm sorry guys, I'm drunk and been in the woods for the past 2 months
>>
>>30579269

I don't have spoopy woods or cold year round either man, I'm in Dallas. Although it's taken me till 2 years ago to change my mind, and instead of hating the harshness of winter and loving summer, I've come to embrace the grey skies and learn the satisfaction of warmth, in defeating the cold, whereas there's no defeating the heat, you just try to suffer the least you can

Thus the search for the perfect jacket

I've been trying to find a tactical backpack that is as good or better than an actual high quality camping backpack from REI etc.

Like you said, most tactical backpacks don't have frames, or if they do they're heavy and not comfortable. The hipbelts also suck.

I bought this Yukon Outfitters pack for $100 that has a hip belt, and a frame. It is okay, and just barely that. It is hot, not big enough for more than a single night, and not that comfortable. Plus shit started breaking on it already.

The best thing I've found is this:

Holster and light recommendations? I'm taking the P226 out of my gear equation and replacing it with my Glock 19. Plus it'll sit nicely in my Haley D3CR with an Incog holster if I wanted to.

I was thinking about a Raven Phantom holster with a light but I'm curious about other holster makers as well. Raven is local though so they get some bonus points.

Also X300 is pretty big on a Glock 19 but for innawoods I don't care. Surefire XC1 is momentary only so that's a downside. What do?

It's the "cross bolt" button right above the last E in Surefire. Output is definitely a compromise due to it's size and battery. I got it for my G19 for CCW, but would be fine for home defense. I suppose I should clarify, my budget is a pretty steady 2-400 a few times a month. So, I don't mind waiting a few weeks to drop what's required. However, I am also now sure I need a $600 rig just in case of the happening. What's a good mid-tier company? I've read this entire thread and not seen much consensus? Any links?

are you using a kydex holster for the 226? if yes how does the finish hold up?
>>
>>30586284
Go to SKDtac.com, sort through plate carriers. Anything from their lowest price to like $300 will be your mid-tier.

IMO if you are just gearing up for end of world or 4chin shitposting then a slick carrier and chest rigs are best. A rig with pouches is faster for HD.

Packed out for a few miles yesterday. Hot as balls out here. Thinking I'm going to stop half assing my rifle and finally make a real wrap for it.

Yeah, the finish seems to be holding up just fine. The finish on the edges of the X300 is wearing but I'm really not noticing much on the Legion.

Should a "happening" happen, would I need bulletproof vest/armor, or will a chest rig alone be good enough? I am totally new at this. I read the stick, but it did not go that in depth on this kind of info.

Question you should ask yourself

If I'm in the happening
1. Will I be able to go to the hospital if I'm shot?
2. can I get there within the golden hour?
3. if I make it there will the hospital just kill me?

if your answer is NO . you don't need your vitals covered because you're fucked already if you get shot.
Save the weight and enjoy the extra endurance.

Is there a difference between a thigh rig and a drop leg holster?
>>
>>30587595
It's kind of colloquial, but when somebody says "thigh rig" I'm thinking it doesn't just have to be a pistol, but might instead be a panel with ammo or whatever pouches.

But yeah, it's the same concept. If you have a pistol thigh rig, it's a dropleg.

I worked at one of their warehouses for 3 years and the only thing you gain is stress and unhealthy smoking habits. The only way to get any gainz is to work on tranship dock. If you're picking you're killing your knees, if you're stowing you're killing your lower back.

What facility might I ask?

Nice, thanks for the info m8. Why are they hated so much vs belt holsters?
>>
>>30587940
they dangle like shit if overloaded/ too low. Thigh rigs have their place in minimalist setups, but even then there's better alternatives.
>>
>>30588011
What would you consider a better alternative? Something like a drop down/duty setup?

They put weight on the leg, which makes them shit for hiking around with.

They are an extra thing to buckle when you are trying to put them on in a hurry.

Most people wear them way too fucking low. Pic related, where it is almost on multicam dude's knee. This isn't the fault of the rig, but it's something you avoid if you get a different one.

For the vast majority of uses, a duty drop panel offers the same pros as a dropleg (sits lower to clear armor and more natural to grasp) without any of the downsides.

I would recommend a duty drop panel.

Pic related is my setup. And before any "Hurr durr Serpa", I stand by it as a secure and durable holster from firsthand use.
>>
>>30588256
No, but that's a kind of stupid addition for a 1 QT. You'll drain it fast and setting it up will be annoying, especially if you intend to add it to a vest.

I can kinda see the 2QT useful in a pack, but at that point why not just get a purpose made bladder?

Online it's called Williams, but the name on ten building is Army Surplus. There is an old medical van in front. Guy is super knowledgeable and will talk your ear off about history. He talked to me about his days in Africa while he was conscripted.

Thanks for all the help, I'll start looking into the duty holsters. I have a good cc setup but i wanna have something more overt for when it's time to go full gearqueer

Valdosta anon here, I will shill for the SADF chest rig until the day I die. For $30 it's the kittie's titties. I also really love the sadf battle jacket. Something about African conflict gear makes my peepee hard.
>>
>>30588438
Where does on find a SA chest rig? Have you tried wearing a pack with one?

He's got a point anon, at that point just get a camelback or get another and or larger canteen.
>>

As much as I hate to say mention them, the kommando store has them, or eBay. Yes you can wear a pack with them on, it's not perfect but it's doable.
