I'm planning on making my first AR-15 build a retro build. Any reccomendations on parts kits or places to get parts(Was already looking at Nodak Spud)? I'm also going to a local gun show this Sunday and will be looking at parts there. I don't care 100% about historical accuracy but I am aiming to specifically have
>Fixed A1 carry handle
>A1 handguards
>A1 stock
Anything else can really be anything. Any advice?

I got my parts hit from these guys, added a basic Anderson stripped lower and bought a 20" 1:9 pencil barrel off of another /k/ tripfag.

Recently tossed on a Chinese optic, which I haven't had the opportunity to test yet so we'll have to wait and see if it holds up. Rifle itself is quite excellent.

I got my whole furniture set from us core replicas for about 90 bucks, a1 upper from brownells

Did you have to install the front sights yourself? If so is that easy or does it require precision

build a time machine. failing that, learn how to print money like osama does.
>>
>>30553839
Yeah, the front sight was a bit beyond be mince the pin holes had to be re-drilled. I gave the LGS a pile of stripper clips, a 30-rd SKS duckbill mag, and ten bucks in exchange for taking care of this and seating the barrel properly (I didn't have adequate tools or workbench at home).

Yeah it's not great, I plan on getting a nicer one later on and hanging on to this one as a backup. Hell, it was $80 and has a warrantly.

Ehhhmmmm
It can work but it limits you a bit. Mine's 1:9, which I thought was a good idea for heavier bullets, but I end up shooting 55gr m193 practically all the time anyhow, so... whatever floats your boat I guess, but having more options isn't a bad thing.

I don't think you're going to be doing much with a retro build that would warrant 62+ grain rounds. Honestly, if you're going to do it, do it right.
>>
>>30553990
ok
To be fair I was never aiming for more than "close enough", just like OP.
The primary rule here I guess is "do what you want and if it works for you, great!"

I saw you post that in another thread and forgot to comment. Looks great.
>>30554039
I know they exist somewhere, and I almost have an urge to make a .45acp carbine with some. I don't even know why I am drawn to going .45 over 9mm since I have nothing else in that caliber - it just inexplicably feels right somehow.
>>
>>30553951
>>30553990
Don't forget, with 1:12 twist you can put in high grain rounds and cause some extreme keyholing
>>30554039
I've looked around before but I'm not sure any have ever been produced, your only bet might be to custom shorten rifle length ones
>>
>>30554081
Where'd you get the upper reciever?
>>
Anyone have one of the brownells retro uppers? Are they decent quality?
>>
>>30554114
Thanks man, it's my first AR! Trigger will be here sometime in October.

>>30554182
MilSurpDude sold it to me but you can find stray C7's floating around. If you call Windham they usually have oddball shit like that on the DL.

I've been hiding the expenses from my girlfriend by keeping it at work and dropping a little bit of money at a time. I mean, shit, the build cost me over $1300 so patience was key. It's also easy to do when you work at a gun shop and can just layaway all the parts.

Fostech Echo is ordered and there's a big ass waiting list. 6 month lead times from date of order.

Is Nodak the only company that makes an A1 80% Lower? I dont really like the idea of spending 150 bucks on it when every other 80% is like 30 bucks

I still cant believe they shipped out a upper like that.

To the op, i got my furniture from fleabay, receivers from Nodak and the rest from ar15sport. I have the 1/12 barrel, long story short I bought the 1/9 nitrade barrel they use to sell and the ext came off so they replaced it with the 1/12 free

(yes later model A1s for the A2 flash hider but it doesn't fit with ur build)
>>
>>30556486
I also have a full-fence lower. It fits with a post-'67 GI issue... the one thing on my build aside from the optic that is "obejctively wrong" would be the ChiCom AK sling, but it matches my chest rig.

I >>30554081 actually built a C7 clone, which for all intents and purposes is an M16A2 with A1 sights, I just mix-matched the furniture because I like the vibe it gives.

So if we're being picky, the better question is why is there A1 furniture on your 1980's C7 clone?
>>
>>30554621
I too bought a fostech, and have about $1300 in the build.... if only my surplus upper easing fucking cracked I'd have been much better off.
