There is video from another angle. From what i saw there were cops behind a cop car engaging fire with the suspect and it looks as if he was running away from them into the direction of the cop around the pillar. It looks like (speculating based on what I saw) the cop at the pillar thought he had advantage over the guy since he was running towards his direction and instead you saw the guy take that cop out and continue running the opposite direction from the cops.

Then the shooter slumps over and dies from his multiple bullet wounds. Strangely, not one of the cops died. They never said how they survived, but people are assuming that the black guy was using birdshot or rock salt in his shotgun. The shift commander IIRC was not wearing a bulletproof vest; that was just a vest from a three piece suit because he had to come in for work unexpectedly or something (which is why he didn't have his own gun). I could be wrong on that bit though
