When he went to an officer to turn in his weapon to assure his innocence he would have been roughly arrested. Also, the police were engaged by obviously trained men from an elevated position. That's called an ambush. We aren't advocating CCW for protection against planned and coordinated ambushes with long arms from elevated positions. Soldiers are ambushed all the time, it doesn't mean that their weapons and training is magically ineffective in other situations, it means a planned and coordinated ambush gives a marked advantage to the attacker.
