What is grayman about carrying a rifle that isn't a SBR or Pistol length AR or something, perhaps with a folding stock.

Carrying a long gun seems to completely defeat the purpose. Once you are seen with a long gun you lose all of the advantages of being inconspicuous.

I used to have the same questions and a rifle really only makes sense when you are not on the move. Like sleeping for the night, home defense and that sort of thing. Otherwise you're right, if it's a OH SHIT HE'S GOT A KNIFE then yeah, go to pistol.

Or it might help if someone starts shooting at you but they miss and you can get to cover and pull out your rifle. Just a thought. But yeah mostly just makes sense when you are stationary.

Yeahhhhh you're a fucking retard. The grayman concept isn't meant to be inconspicuous at 500/600 yards. It's to help you blend into a crowd and go unnoticed. The idea is to draw the least amount of attention to you as you can.

>the point is in a city 100 yards is long distance even the worst ccw holster wont look like its printing at a far enough distance.
I don't understand. I would much rather not print especially inside a fucking Chick-fil-a where I can only get 15 yards of distance tops.

>your over estimating your ability to tell the contents of someones bags
I don't have to estimate the contents. I just know when I see coyote brown and PALS webbing on the outside that the person with the pack is probably either a outdoorsy type or a gun type. Same goes for those Cobra buckles on a belt. That's enough suspicion to get additional attention, which could uncover something else (printing gun, printing spare mag, etc)

>the tsa gets billions and even they dont always get it right. you are trying to hard
The TSA is also staffed by mouth breathers and people who don't pay attention to trends in gun stuff or tac gear.
>>
>>30522638
>the tsa gets billions and even they dont always get it right. you are trying to hard

The TSA is made up of employees who barely got their GED and likely aren't into guns.

I'm not as concerned about what someone 100 yards away is thinking as much as I am about making it through crowded areas without raising any suspicion.

>Carry less chemlights and more flares
I'll think about it.

>Replace food bars with actual food
It's not my lunch sack.
it's more of a put in and forget item only for emergencies.
>>

>The Prepaid card comes in handy m88
If you are in a situation where you need to hose people down with bullets and eat food bars a debit card wont work
>Bic weighs nothing, and it's always handy to have more than one source of fire on you.
Then get a good lighter, BICs really suck unless 100% dry and 0 wind
>I'll think about it.
Flares and other chemical starters will usually work no matter the situation and can be used to replace the lighter you just tossed
>it's more of a put in and forget item only for emergencies.
The point is that you dont want to eat emergency food in an emergency situation. You will feel worse knowing that shit is serious because youre eating some loaf that sucks the water from your mouth. Packets of tuna, beef jerky, etc bring along food that comforts you.
>>

>>30522830
>If you are in a situation where you need to hose people down with bullets and eat food bars a debit card wont work
Not him, but a debit card could be useful during something like a natural disaster that affects just your local area. If you manage to make it somewhere unaffected, it would really suck balls to not have any money. It also doesn't really weight much, or take up much space. No reason to ditch it entirely.

The middle operator definately has one, the operator the right might have one on his right arm (you can see the sleeve is bunched up a bit), the operator in the top of the picture has a yellow band.

Allz I'm saying anonz is you should spend the extra money on some military grade plate and equipment because that's the shit that is proven to work in shooting situations. Bullets are tricky bitches that'll fuck you up if you give them the chance.

Clothing is all civilian stuff, with a face hidden. If body armor is visible, its flat colored, the white low profile soft armor would be ideal. Chest rig or whatever on top.

Except the plate carriers you're saying are too small are literally medium SAPI plate carriers that have been proven by US SOF from all over. Just because conventional force guys roll in full armor carriers doesn't mean it's the best for all situations. If I'm walking around in a wooded or mountainous environment I don't want to be carrying 6-10 pounds of unnecessary KM2 that isn't even stopping the relevant rifle threats.

>Anybody know why the left-most operator has white cloth tied around his arms? Gotta assume it's some form of identification
Yeah, it's to id friendlies.
They tied gauze around their arms to ID good guys, which is a pretty clever thing to do when Recon is working in civvies with the other Spetsnaz groups dressed from anywhere between full kit to operator casual.

>but why aren't the others following suit?
My guess would be those guys if they don't have gauze already tied to their kits, would be they didn't get the memo or fell off in the Operation.

There's a big assumption that firepower/capability is always negatively correlated with stealth. Some people can't fucking conceal a glock 19 and whine that it's too big, so they carry a single stack 380 with no reload. On the other hand there are people who can easily conceal a fullsize glock, 2 reloads, a TQ, 2 knives, and quikclot. You can conceal more firepower/kit at the exact same level of "stealth" if you put some effort into finding the right equipment, experimenting with it, and working around your body type or just trying to change your body type.

Winter: warm clothes in whatever cut and color, cheap surplus overwhites.
Cold Weather Forest: Just ditch the overwhites, Vintage wool mackinaw jacket in nuetral color, surplus bdu pants with layering underneath, hunting clothes (deer season is in cold weather)
Desert: no clue, never been. Desert and coyote surps?
Tropical: airshit tigerstripe bdus
Swamp: the fuck? just wear your woodland bdus or just stay out of the swamp!
You do not need to build new kit for each of these, reuse as much possible.
you do not need to spend money on queer tac gear, buy used surps and civvie stuff and you will look more grayman while saving cash

>>
>>30526276
Really if you're going to buy gear you really should have an idea of what you want to use it for. Otherwise you're just buying gear based on other people's word. Which is fine, but your needs may different. If you use only other peoples word you're going to end up buying a whole bunch if shit that either you don't need, or just sucks. Start out small. Maybe a simple battle belt set up and work up from there. That's what I did. I started with a basic belt set up and ended up moving up to a chest rig. I ended up getting a few different ones before I settled on one I liked. I also ended up changing up things like pouch placement and weight distribution based on what I was doing while wearing it. Do yourself a favor, figure out exactly what youre going to use this gear for and go from there. You'll save yourself a lot of money and headache.

Merrell MOAB-Mid

The Gore-Tex version holds up completely submerged, breath easy in summer and keep you warm enough you'll be comfortable in wool socks outdoors in winter, vibram outsole and breathable design, the 'Ventilator' (non-water proof version) is quick drying.
And they are super lightweight.

I have the D3CR-H and it works pretty well, or you could just get some belt-mounted hsgi tacos and roll that way.
>>
>>30535761
I was actually looking at the DC3R-H today, but didn't know if I felt like dropping $180 on a vest before knowing if I liked one. Can the tacos mount to a belt by default? Or do I need to buy a hook or something?
>>
>>30535742
If you like belts go with belts.
No need getting the torso all sweaty for a course
>>
>>30535794

I got the H because I carry 17S mags in it sometimes, but it carries AR mags just the same, plus when I had the regular D3CR the "stuffit" pouch was wasted space for me, so I liked the pouch setup on the H better. I picked up a flatpack as well so they all interface together nicely.

HSGI makes dedicated belt-mounted tacos now with hook+loop. I actually have two multicam ones I need to get rid that were never used. You can use them with a hook+loop belt but it's not required, though might be a little more rigid of a setup.

I've decided to go for a FLC for a chest rig because it's cheap as fuck, comfortable, and incredibly versatile. I figured I might as well get a desert and woodland one since they're as low as $9 used, $20 new. I have two questions.

1) Should I go with green or brown pouches? Which works better with both colors? I'm leaning towards green.

2) For my desert, should I go with coyote brown or 3-color?

I'd say it's pretty solid for what it's worth. There is a little front/back wobble that can be mitigated by having heavier, higher capacity magazines in the fake magwell. It might come with a small 10 rounder, which is pretty good considering how little I've used it. The only thing I can really say about it is that it's kind of a pain in the ass to get onto the buffer tube, but other than that, it's pretty good being on a backpack gun and keeps more rounds handy whenever needed.

do you not have a milsurp store in your town?

you can pick up sweat rotted woodland bdu's for like 35 bucks (15 dollar shirt, $20 pants)

it's easier to find modern uniforms though, and they'll be in better condition. But for some reason every surplus store has an infinite supply of ALICE gear

you need to replace all those chemlights with a real fucking flashlight with a 20-50 hour battery life setting+spare batteries.

also replace your fistful of bics with 2 torch lighters and a canister of butane. matches are fucking useless. one match box takes the space of 2 bics or a real lighter.

you need a phone with good battery life in a otterbox/hard case and a portable solar charger. you can save digital copies of maps to it and use gps/the in built compass. Also it's a damn camera. where are you even going to get film processed? why would you bother carrying around a whole disposable to take at max 30 fixed lens pictures.

barring WWIII and everyone shooting down satellites, a standalone or phone gps and digital maps are infinitely more useful than a single stoneage paper map. you can torrent topographical and road maps for the entire world, let alone the united states, and keep them on your phone. grey man threads are always shit shows. everyone has a vastly different idea of what the fuck that means. what seperates "grey man" from an edc? because if the "point" of grey man is to not stick out in a crowd, that means no body armor, no rifle.

so, we've got 33 posts left. what the fuck is grey man. what's the point, what are the rules. I know the real answer is "it's a marketing gimmick"

Secret Squirrels, armed security, and maybe some cops are the only people who could realistically benefit from "low vis equipment"

CZs can be finicky maintenance wise. They tend to break small parts, specifically the trigger return spring and the slide stop, at lower round counts than other pistols. M&P9s have historically been plagued in accuracy issues, but supposedly it's getting better.
>>
>>30541090
Figures. Guess glock would be the more reliable and accurate choice? I wish I wasnt so ignorant on handguns other than the Beretta which is my service weapon, and I fucking hate it.

To be honest none of the major manufacturers are perfect anymore. Name one and someone will name a problem. With the glocks some people get brass to the face, although that's supposed to have improved as well. I would personally prefer Glock for mag availability, holster options, and sight options. Just know that you may have to do some tinkering no matter what you choose.

Looking for recommendations for a plate carrier.

Camouflage needs are for Colorado.
Eventually want to carry level 4 ceramic plates.
I don't want some bullshit that will fall apart, but I don't need gucci shit either. Functionality is number one.

First order of business is getting the carrier so I have something to attach magazines to.

Please help.

Link to some magazine pouches would be great too.

Also, do people wear packs over a carrier?
In SHTF I might end up hiking in the mountains.

Thanks guys.
>>
>>30541444
I'm only going to attempt to answer part of your question since other people will do a better job with the other parts.

People do wear packs over PCs although packs that are designed to have semi-rigid adjustable backplates that can be bent to fit you and your PC. More popular is just attaching a pack straight to your PC like an expanding flat pack or a big hydration carrier.

Good luck in the woods I guess.
