You're confusing the two. It was the S&W's that were used early on and then ditch because of their short special snowflake rimmed cartridge.

If we're talking about revolvers with loading gates, this one is far more ergonomic.

The military ditched the .45 schofields because they were up to their tits in Long Colt, and you could use S&W ammo in a Colt but not the other way around. They started trying to do that though two years after they adopted the Colt, which makes me think they had buyer's remorse.

They also continued using S&W ammo even though most troops were stuck with the SAA

I cant break the 18 second mark, but in my mind it should be entirely possible to do it in 10 or 12 seconds.
