Absolute definitely. You want your red dot as close to the bore as possible. If you've got flip back up sights then they will be out of the way regardless.

>>30517572
Some ass in the other thread claims that he sent a letter to the ATF asking if you can combine a cheek saddle and a shockwave. I think he's just trolling but I'm still mad. A few days back he posted an excerpt from an old ATF letter in where the ATF is ruling that the combination of the SST1 cheek saddle and some particular sling mount rail option is illegal. He claims that somehow that letter has bearing on our configuration even though the ATF letter he posted clearly is only regarding the particular configuration they were talking about. That configuration has no Shockwave brace and so the letter has nothing to do with us.

>>30517484
It is a knockoff of the KX3 called the KAK Flash Can. It is just to redirect blast on short barrel.s The KX3 is like $130, while the KAK flash can is $30.

The only thing is the KAK flash can doesn't actually have a baffle and it is aluminum. If I could do it again I would get one of the steel knockoffs that actually has a baffle, like this:

I'm sure I'm about to bring a shitstorm down on myself... but fuck it.

I'm wondering if there is such a thing as an adapter that will allow a guy to put AK-intended brakes and hiders on an AR barrel.

I have a no-frills AK brake that I fucking love, and although I think 5.56 doesn't need a brake, it also does a decent job of managing that flash.

The muzzle threads on an AR are usually 1/2-28. The muzzle threads on an AK are usually M14-1. That's a metric thread code for your brake, and a UNC thread code for your 5.56 barrel.

I wanted red because I feel that shooting with a green reticle into a sunny green forest/field would get washed out pretty easily. I chose the horseshoe/dot because it's a much bigger reticle than the chevron which translates to easier + quicker to pickup and aim with. However, the chevron is a little more precise. I still hit targets at 200m (max distance in my area) with the horseshoe dot

What do you guys think is the cheapest I can get a 14.5" barrel plus muzzle device onto my 10.5" pistol?

Should I pay a gunsmith to swap the barrels out and pin the muzzle device? Or should I buy the tools and do it myself? I don't own a vice currently, but I do have a full automotive set of tools.

I would have to sell my Shockwave setup but I'm sure that won't be too hard to do.

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/215590/ar-stoner-barrel-ar-15-pistol-556x45mm-nato-m4-contour-1-in-7-twist-145-chrome-moly-melonite-coated

I'd have to get a new gas tube though right? The gas block from the 10.5" should be reusable?

>>30518199
You're not going to get a more well rounded fixed 4x optic than an ACOG. Low power variables are popular, but notice how most serious end users also have an offset red dot in combination. Even with a throw ring they are not great at constantly going 1x to 4x.

I'd opt ACOG with a reflex piggy backed or offset if you need an optic for close in work.

- 16 inch upper with midlength gas system, chromelined barrel and BCG (especially chromelined gas key), and a picatinny rail (fixed front sight might save you some money for the final addition of sights)
- Decently reviewed lower parts kit and buffer tube assembly (mil-spec)
- magpul buttstock, handguard, and pistol grip if you don't like the one your lower parts kit came with (cheap but sturdy)
- good trigger if you want it (doesn't have to be Geissele, but go for a decent two-stage)
- optics (a good red dot should work), and backup iron sights (magpul MBUS does that well), and if you got an upper with a fixed front sight you may be able to save some money by only needing the rear backup iron
- a shitload of PMAGs (IMPORTANT)
- a shitload of ammo (ALSO IMPORTANT, Wolf Gold is good stuff)

You should get a rifle that looks a bit like this (though this one is sans the red-dot). Sturdy, reliable, and g2g.

You know the weirdest thing about tonight is that my experience is actually pretty spooky now that I think about it.

Saw a dude 5 miles away, walking the other direction, while driving in.

The same dude came to the property I'm on around 7PM on a 4wheeler and started introducing himself as the neighbor.

He said "I've been meaning to come and meet the owner of this property for years now"

When I asked him where he lived he got all quiet and pointed downriver and said "About a 20 minute float", which means he was lying through his teeth about living because I just fucking saw him walking the other direction on the way in, really far away, in the woods.

I'm spooked

Still looking for something that makes the gas block better than others/worth $50-60 compared to others around $20-30 and I can't find it. Gucci brand it is. Definitely would've got something different if it wasn't bundled with the MK4.

Don't be too jelly though, I'm in Maryland. Heavy Barrel mandatory for a rifle build, pistol builds can be whatever though. But I'm not old enough to have a pistol (21 in MD).

False. You can buy long guns across state lines as long as it's from an FFL. You'd have to do a transfer through an FFL if you bought a long gun from a private party. Only hand guns (or something that can be legally assembled as a handgun, like an AR lower) cannot be bought out of your home state in any case.

My thoughts as well.

The only thing I'd be giving up is performance with supersonic ammo, meaning it would be less suitable for hunting.

But on the flip side, I already have dedicated hunting rifle(s). As a suppressor host, a 300 blk rifle's niche would be with ultra quiet subsonic ammo.

So here's a question, what's the absolute cheapest AR I can get that has A1/A2-style furniture for aesthetic appeal and a cool plinker? I've gotten a little overwhelmed searching for ARs in the past, figured I'd ask for some guidance here.

Glass is good, they are of robust construction, dat warranty, you can probably pass it down to your kids as long as you don't throw it in lava, but they cost probably 50% more than they should.
I read somewhere the military gets them for about $650 per and Trijicon presumably makes money on this. Now compare it with consumer prices.

If you have the money to spend ~1,000$ on an optic and not give a shit and want an ACOG? Go for it you will enjoy it. They are honestly nice little fixed scopes.

However if the price is at all an issue to you then you can spend your money more efficiently.

Yeah, I think the optical mix of ARs is:

ultra short 9mm SBR

~10.5" barreled 5.56 SBR

14.5-18" Recce/SPR jack of all trades rifle with a 1-4x/1-6x

A dedicated 20"+ precision AR with a stainless bull barrel.

If I ever went for a 9mm carbine there's no way I could skip a hk94/mp5 clone.

I'd agree on other points though. I'm looking at a 16" upper to replace the mk12 clone possibly as well.
