Long story short, Im a pro second amendment guy and given the nonsense that's going on in DC, I went out to buy an AR.

I went to fire it and pic related happened. It is a live round and I don't know what to do
>>
>>30505204
Take a straw, put it against the stuck round, seal it with something like chewing gum, and suck for everything you've got.
>>
>>30505204
return that shit, cause they didnt mill the chamber right. otherwise, let the bolt slam home, and then try to pull the charging handle to get it out, without bending and breaking it. Usually putting your foot on the FSB and grabbing the CH with both hands helps.
>>
>>30505204
Have you tried to remove the magazine and let the bolt close on the round, then try and eject it?

Alternatively, get a cleaning rod and or something firm and long that will fit in your barrel, insert it into the barrel till it touches the tip of the round, get a hammer and smack the end until the round pops out.
>>
Lock bolt back, drop mag, let bolt go home, extract round

Then put the mag back in, rack it again to chamber, and fucking kill yourself faggot
>>
>>30505216
it's tactical secrets like this that keep this guy at the top, OP be thankful this guy is blessing you with some serious knowledge
>>
pull back the charging handle, lock the bolt back, remove the magazine, and pull the bullet out with a pencil or something. Or if you are more cautious remove the upper, take out the BCG and charging handle, then remove the bullet.
>>
>>30505204
That's a squib round/bad primer.

Remove the magazine if you can, make sure you keep the barrel pointed in a safe direction. Rack the bolt one more time. Pull the trigger, see if it goes off.

Put your foot on the muzzle to support it, place your selector switch on auto since that's the easiest mode to get a jam out, then punch the round in with a spare round that you have

That's happened to me everytime I've been to a range and it works everytime
>>
>>30505225
I'm taking it back to Gander Mountain tomorrow. That was the absolute first round to go in that gun. Thankfully, the rounds after it fell out and wouldn't rack.

Is this absolutely something that I can't remove myself? Is it a manufacturing defect?
>>
>>30505204
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i-Mb6fleaY
>>
>>30505240
It's not a squib. The round didn't fire and the cartridge wasn't struck.
>>
>>30505264
It's just a double feed man you would look like a full retard if you took it into the shop for something that basic. You should know how to fix jams like that yourself
>>
Is your extractor still intact?
>>
>>30505279
Hey man I'm just trying to learn. That's why I came here and asked.
>>
>>30505204
failure to eject, take a .2 inch wooden dowel and shove it down muzzle to get the cassing out, then inspect the case, look for cracks, after that inspect the bolt and ejector, if you see ANY damage, return that shit.
>>
>>30505279
hmm...now that i think about it.

op post a picture of YOUR malfunction dumbass.
>>
>>30505277
Wait, so have to tired to let the bolt close and extract the cartridge?
>>
didn't you post this exact thread before?
>>
Clear it and try it again. If it jams take it back.

Could be that the chamber is too small, could be that you have shitty ammo, could be that you have a shitty extractor, could be that you have a shitty gun.
>>
>>30505239
Thank you it's out now. What do you think caused it?

>>
>>30505369
>Thank you it's out now. What do you think caused it?

bad primer (small silver part) in the cartridge
>>
Quick question.... Dis you clean the gun before you used it? Did you scrub the chamber?
>>
>>30505397
There's a scratch on the tip but not on the cartridge
>>
>>30505369
Poorly seated magazine will do this a lot.

>>
Clean the chamver with a chamber brush.
Mark the magazine with a number.
If it happens again try a new magazine.
If it stops with new magazine. Toss the marked one out.
>>
>>30505463
So you didnt clean it?

Go get a chamber brush and some hoppes and clean that fucker.
>>
>>30505463
Did you use clp
>>
>>30505463
Not that poster but, sometimes a gun will be dirty straight from the factory.

They test fire them at the manufacturer and don't clean the rifle and send them out to be sold.

So maybe there was some fouling/dirt left in the chamber that caused this.
>>
>>30505442
What are some obvious signs of this? I'm honestly just here to learn. The owner's manual doesn't cover everything.

>>30505486
No
>>30505494
I've got an Otis cleaning kit that I'll run through it. Are you always supposed to clean a brand new gun? Again, I'm here to learn.
>>
>>30505294
>>30505264
Are you very familiar with guns? It's pretty rare to cause one of these in the course of firing the gun, but itshe very easy to cause one by user error. Or you could be the world's most unlucky man
>>
This is why I want to lurk here for as long as possible.
>>
>>30505520
Thanks I'll get to cleaning it.
>>
>>30505494
A little dirt should not fuck things up if it is wet.

I have cleaned my AR 3 times in 4500 rounds. CLP is my battle buddy.
>>
>>30505521
Yes. Always break down and clean a new gun.

There are 2 reasons. 1. There are offten cutting fluids or anti corrosion fluid left on the gun after manufacturing.

2. Many times there is no lube on the gun.

An otis kit is a good start but a chamber brush. Is a must.

As far as cleaning fluids. There are a million options.

Personally. I use non-chlorinated brake cleaner, to spray the gun down.

Then i use hoppes 9 or sweets and apply that with a rag / patch to every inch.

Let it sit for a
10 min, then wipe it off. And patch the barrel till the patchea come out clean.

After that i use a good gun oil or clp. ( cleaner lubricat and protection) to lube the gun. And a small amount on a rag to wipe the gun down.
>>
>>30505541
Did you pull the charging handle back and release it or did you pull it back and slowly let it forward? If you rode it forward you probably didn't let it seat all the way and induced the malfunction. I had this same issue going from bolt actions to AR platform.
>>
>>30505523
Very familiar? No. I've been to the range a good bit. Most of the guns I own are revolvers that my grandfather willed to me. I can dissemble and clean them all. I've shot semi autos before, but never performed maintenance on them.

Like I said, I went out and bought one in response to the nonsense happening in DC. I'm all about self-teaching, but I'd rather ask then learn by major fuck ups.
>>
>>30505556
I bet you cleane it when you first got it. Or at least lubed it up.

Also your a bad man. Clean your raifu and treat her well.
>>
>>30505264
I was just kiddin man. Who made the gun anyway? Its possible that the rifling has engaged the bullet, and that is why its hard as fuck to get out. Now if the BCG closes on top of it and keeps jumping the case rim, then you gonna need to ID the problem.

And I dont think Gander MTN is gonna let you walk into the store with a LOADED gun lol.
>>
>>30505573
I pulled and released
>>
>>30505573
This. Dont rise the chargin handle.

Better way is to lock the bolt back. Insert magazine. Then hit the bolt release.

Dont worry you didnt fuck up any thing other than your pride.

Clean it. Lube it. Shoot it.
>>
>>30505611
Rise= ride
>>
>>30505204
1. that round isn't live,
2. it's stuck as fuck because it ripped the rim off

You need a cleaning rod

>>
>>30505204

yes, with the compound slide on a lathe or if it's CNC it simply uses the z and x axes to extrapolate the proper angle
>>
Ive had 2 FTEs with my AR. They were both spent rounds. What I did was
Place rifle muzzle up
Poured oil down the barrel from the mzzle
Poured a ton of oil
More oil
let it sit overnight
more oil
take a cleaning rod, try to hammer the round out form the muzzle
more oil
let it sit overnight again
pounded it again
flip it over, take off upper and take out the BCG & CH
put something down to absorb the oil
take a flathead screwdriver, try to wiggle out the casing

This is how I do it, rinse and repeat til its out.
>>

good job using google.
and what is this process of cutting metal called??? fuckin retard.

>>30505951
why? just get it out while its still hot. its worse to wait until the barrel and case cool, and then its basically pressfit from metal contraction. Just use your cleaning rod, and spear it down there so inertia gets the case unstuck.
>>

>>
>>30506059

Machinist here, definitely not milling. You mill on a mill with a tool called a, get this, mill. To put a chamber in a barrel you use a reamer, usually on a lathe, but *could* be done on a mill with a lot more effort, indicating, and time. Wanna know what this operation is called? Reaming.
>>
>>30505279
FTE, not a double feed.
>>
>>30505793
Sure, anything can be reliable. But as far as an individual machine goes. I think having a history or reliability is more important than having a guarantee or a belief.

Personally I went with all upper end BCM stuff.

The second problem is once you have something as proven reliable, how long does it stay that way. I think this is where quality of components really comes in.
>>
>>30506218
>Zeroing
No, it is not an airplane. How do I get the scope matched to the rifle?
>>
>>30505204
lock the bolt to the rear, rip the magazine out (it will be fine, unless it's a shitty aluminum GI mag, in which case if it's not fine you can bend the feed lips back into place anyway), now rack the charging handle a couple times until the live round falls out, and the bolt closes on the round in the chamber, then yank it back again until it extracts properly

Now buy an Extractor upgrade kit, and install it using youtube videos as a guide.

What's the inside look like?

Can you describe it for me?
I want to make one eventually, when I get around to buying a blank to profile and chamber.

I was going to do something like this one: http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/barrel-tools/barrel-chamfering-accessories/dave-reamers-floating-reamer-holder-prod7742.aspx

The three set-screws are slightly loose so it floats around on them, and will press against the three bolts to keep from turning

I fear your design might want to cant up or down unnaturally, just from what I can see.

as in, a sloped line from the tail-stock center to below the chuck, that kind of "unnatural cant"

buy one
Don't bother making your own floating reamer holder
More trouble than it's worth and won't be as good

I don't have a print for it anymore

It wasn't finished
It has an added screw in the face to prevent rotating and the rear was turned to a morse taper

I'm not sure what cant there would be though
This is dead center of the lathe and walks upward to follow the bore
>>
>>30506344

A better explanation of what I am worried about happening with your design is, notice the other designs can free float all around, except not being parallel to the bore.

It could be left of the bore, right of the bore, up, down, but never non-parallel to the bore of the spindle.
>>
>>30506285
Not to be a picky cunt, but you can also mill with a lathe.

Just get a vise for your cross-slide with up and down travel.
>>
>>30506285
what suppressor is this?
>>
>>30506349
the design of mine allows it to shift anywhere around the bore, are you saying it wouldn't tilt?
it can tilt a little bit, but you want to indicate your bore with bore mandrels to prevent as much of that as possible

Gordy Gritters shows the best way of doing it because lol curved bores

>>30506361
>Just get a vise for your cross-slide with up and down travel.

Not sure how you'd use an end mill on it
being as the rotating part would pretty much disallow you from doing any kind of milling
>>
>>30505204
I had the same issue with my Smith and Wesson 300 blackout. If this happens just put a rag in the chamber of the gun and stuff it well. Then feed a cleaning rod through the muzzle and place the gun on the floor. Now GENTLY tap the butt of the gun with the cleaning rod hitting a wall. A few good bumps will get your round out. Just make sure your safety is on and try not to hit the action.

>>
>>30505204
Pull the charging handle back while bumping the butt stock against a hard surface.
>>
>>30506641

Best bet is if shit is getting stuck in the chamber, up the strength on your extractor. I don't mean go out and buy some super high strength tacticool kit, go down to the hardware store, get a small o ring from the plumbing section thatll fit around your extractor spring, and bam, increased extractor strength. To prevent any other issues in the future, a basic way to take care of an ar is this:

Dont slather the whole bolt carrier in clp, just get some white lithium grease, smear a little along the rails at the top and bottom of the carrier. Put it in the rifle. With the rifle assembled and bolt closed, look in the ejection port, see the three holes, put a drop of oil on each of those. Rack the bolt back and forth a few times.

Thats proper lubrication. You should have no issues if you do that and clean every 500 rounds, use a mag in good working order, and dont switch between polymer coated steel ammo and brass in the middle of a range trip (that shit can cause a stuck casing like this as well)
>>
>>30505204
Strip mag, cycle to see if you can get the round out, and try again. If it happens a couple more times, stop, and strip the rifle when it's cool, then take apart the bolt carrier group. I had the same problem, turns out the pin holding in the extractor shattered, so you might need to stock up on some.

>>30506691
Yeah that's just one reason to use a lathe as a lathe.

Cheap tooling.
A triangle indexable carbide cutter is like $15, and you get 3 points on it. A $250 carbide end-mill could do the same job, but it would be foolish not to use the lathe for it if you can.

Otis makes a bunch of nice kits. I have this one and it has a chamber brush. I highly recommend it.

Oh and also it has a rod to clear stuck cases like what the op says he's dealing with. That's one reason I got this kit vs the smaller round ones. Sure stuck cases should be super rare with a good gun and ammo but still, if I rip the rim off a case I want the ability to clear it myself.

Lock the bolt back, remove magazine, clear

At least the cartridge didn't completely rupture, blow out the bottom of the magazine, and have a piece of brass completely stuck in the chamber.
