Might pick some up. My regular ones have actually held up well. I need to do a lot of battle tracking and plotting on the move with an infantry company so the ability to write while keeping my gloves on is a big plus. I just don't know if I'll lose dexterity with the bravos

Don't get a plate carrier if you can't have plates. A chest rig will be much more breathable.

Honestly, especially for hunting, a US Surplus FLC is a good choice that is dirt cheap. It distributes the weight well and is durable. The main drawback is that it sucks over armor, which isn't an issue for you.

You can find them in UCP, tan, desert, and woodland camo. You can pick up a fully kitted out UCP one with all the pouches for very cheap on eBay. A little bit of green dye and elbow grease will turn your shit tier camo into a flat green rig.

I don't think I went wrong buying the pads, I can't imagine them being an issue? The vest and pouches was for airshit from a long time ago, it's just a place holder till I get something that isn't shit. I haven't tested it outdoors yet so I don't have a solid idea on what pouches exactly meet what I feel good with and works. I will get around testing it when I have time.

>>30492243
Yes indeed they are. Got holes in the back for a strap of some sort, and material on the sides thats rubbery.
>>
>>30495145
ikr

this is probably a dumb question, but: how important are side plates?

i like the look of this http://ferroconcepts.com/collections/the-slickster/products/the-slickster carrier but it doesn't have any space for side plates.

it gets chilly in canada and it would be nice to be able to wear the carrier under my parka rather than over it
>>
>>30495196
yea i was thinking of getting this kit: http://www.clickarmory.com/gear/armor/s-j-hardware-ar500-armor-operator-kit-x4-plates-level-4/
>>
>>30495239
>how important are side plates

depends on how often you are getting shot at.
if you intend to be sitting in a vehicle or breaching buildings while being shot at sideplates could save your life. if you at trying to save weight and be mobile and stay the fuck away from people shooting at you then side plates aren't as important.

if you want a really slick PC then you can either work with the lack of side plates or find one that has them or has molle on the sides for attachable sideplates.
>>
>>30495258
Hmm, doesn't look like a bad deal, but I've never seen steel rated as level 4. 30.06 AP has been known to far exceed steel's capabilities when the steel is at a thickness that is practical to be worn.
>>
>>30495258
I'd just save my money for some good ceramics.

AR500 armor gets shit on constantly in these threads.
>>
>>30495239
>this is probably a dumb question, but: how important are side plates?
If we're being real, they're not. You're not going to get shot at at any point, so any plates are kind of a waste.

i need a front plate
>>
>>30495277
I would say the likelihood of me being in a gunfight is slim to none

i'm mainly getting it as a failsafe in case of accidents, seeing as my innawoods shooting spot isn't private (there are usually other people shooting within kms) and is way out of cell service range, and my actual shooting range is an outdoor unsupervised range so there's nobody to get help if i'm there alone or another member goes bateman mode

im sure as an american you will understand my would-rather-have-it-and-not-need-it-than-need-it-and-not-have-it mentality.
>>
>>30495347
me too. i hear ceramics are the way to go. cant find anything on ebay though
>>
>>30495325
ceramics in canada cost upwards of thousands of dollarydoos, unfortunately.

here is a test for these plates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrGw7H6YdK0 these guys beat them up pretty well and the plates barely have a scratch on them. although ricochets could be a problem :/
>>

Yeah dude, it's totally real. I bought a fanny pack/fag bag from them not too long ago. Got a notice 2 days after that my package would be arriving the next day. Bag was 30 bones and literally the same as an Eagle Industries Escape and Evade fanny pack, which would have cost an inflated 170. They make a bunch of gear on contract that is identical to other major manufactures for a fraction of the price.

I'm not sure what it is about AK platforms that makes me think Tiger Stripe, but I think it would look pretty awesome. Especially with some kind of different color scheme. Desert Tiger or all terrain colors, I don't know.

Shooter cut. Standard cut will fit in the back but not the front, I've tried with both types of plates. Also, a small OCPC will fit small and medium(nice and snug) military SAPIs, but it will not fit commercial 10 x 12s.
>>
>>30495803
I meant to say shooter cut for both because it's much more comfortable that way.

I'm outfitted in multicam/ocp but have an issued digital vest right now, think I can get away with coyote PC or should I play it safe with a MC one? Trying to get out of that shit dayglo and stop my collarbone from being a bloody rash.
>>
>>30495879
Yes, definitely contact them. They cater towards the military, so they would most definitely work with you. Do what the other anon said and screenshot the order confirmation page to use for reference if you call them (I never got a confirmation email). If you order in the morning, it should ship on the same day.

As for colors and trying to hide it, I don't know. Try throwing a chest rig over it to give that "POS designed by the Army look" and it might blend in.

Don't be an idiot. That's how the patterns are supposed to be used. The stuff that is not easily changed out (rifle, plate carrier, holster, etc.) is versatile for a broad range of environments. The clothing is catered specifically to the season and region.

>that's gotta be the reason why many people run around in full multicam
...yeah, that's right. Again, the clothing is tailored to the environment. A transitional environment requires a neutral and versatile pattern like original multicam. Arid clothing is for deserts, alpine for snow, and tropic for densely vegetated woods or jungle. It's really not complicated.

From the website:
>The MultiCam Tropic™ palette compliments and overlaps portions of the main MultiCam® pattern; so pairing MultiCam® gear with MultiCam Tropic™ apparel results in a well-coordinated concealment system.

The same is said for arid and alpine.

Neutral and non-environment specific base patterns/colors for gear have been used by armies for decades. You are painfully under-informed on this topic.

>>30501186
Not really a good way to wear armor like that. Maybe a low sling chest rig, or better yet some kind of belt kit + suspenders. Or put your stuff in pouches on your pants and shoulders. Won't be able to carry as much, but the fact of the matter is smocks and chest pockets are ill suited for the plate carrier era. Also carrying trauma gear in a smock under your LBE and armor can be a problem as it takes more time to access.

Maybe put a CAT in each shoulder pocket, then the survival gear in a pants pocket. IFAK should probably be on your belt line or something.
>>
>>30501186
>>30502646
I guess you could try wearing a slick plate carrier under the smock, and then wearing some kind of patrolling belt harness setup.

Get a pack like a Camelbak MULE or a Hydrostorm or whatever. Put your water and small stuff in that. Put TQ on chestrig/plate carrier. Load mags on chestrig/plate carrier.

Kelty packs are shit. I have a Falcon 4000 I picked up on clearance for $125. I lashed a car camping grade air pad to the side and left it in a closet for several months and the aluminum stay on that side got bent. Keep in mind this pack was advertised as being military grade and they even sell pouches for satellite radios for it. When I called them up to RMA it, they didnt have any replacement stays, so they sent me stays for a difference pack which I had to cut down to make fit. The replacement stays werent even new.

They give you the option of a refund or replacement on the recalled plates. The recalls have all been from the metal that they get from their distributors and they don't have a lot of control over that. AR500 is a good company and the non recalled plates hold up just fine. They're biggest fault lately is shipping which they have no control over since they have a huge back log. Don't listen to the memes.
>>
>>30503266
>The recalls have all been from the metal that they get from their distributors and they don't have a lot of control over that.
They could actually bother testing plates from each batch of steel they get, like any reputable company would do. Its called quality control.

Dunno, its the only mask i've ever put on. I would assume old masks are disposed of for a reason. Rubber dry rots over time. I bought it mainly for tear gas rather than thinking i'll ever be in a real NBC scenario.

One thing about the Mestel, even though it is a triple port which in theory should allow you to shoulder a rifle, I can't look down the iron sights or the EOTech on my RFB with it on.
>>
>>30511190
Yeah I know masks have a life span too, mine seems to have a perfect seal at the very least. From the limited research I've done, it seems like anything short of NBC rated is good for little more than debris, like a respirator. I figure just in case you know, covered for chemical gasses too for 8 hours. I'll probably get a proper set-up like you recommended, just with a family of three it gets pricey between start-up, up-keep, and you know, the fact we'll likely never need them. I appreciate the replies.

An easy way to test it would be to buy a shitty tent and set off a tear gas grenade inside. Clear Out (bug bomb style) grenades are fairly cheap but most stores seem to be out of stock right now. There are a couple on gunbroker for twice the normal price

They shouldnt be. I bought 5 a few years ago from keepshooting.com and stored them in a 30 cal ammo can, whenever i've opened the can, gas hasnt come out. The date code on the bottom is 9-13, im not sure if that is manufacture or expiration.

Too damn hot to go operate of my own accord. I just went to the range and finally shot my VP9. Shoots beautifully. I was only out for an hour so I only out about 100 rounds through it. I need to get used to the ergos but goddamn it was nice as fuck and a great shot.

The 5R is pretty good for a starter radio. I have one and bring it innadesert and camping. Hasn't failed me yet. I use it to keep in communication with my buds while we're out and to get whether reports when we go places with no cell service.

I love ASOLO Fugitives. They are very heavy, but they are tough boots and great for extremely mountainous and/or snowy terrain.

I fell for the Merrill MOAB meme, and they are pretty meh for serious hiking.

this.
I understand the whole "grey man" scenario, but if you're carrying a long arm, you're no longer "grey man". A rifle will draw attention. At that point, you might as well be threatening.
Maybe there's a level between grey man and full blown Ranger batt?

they understood that the PPSh41 was better weapon than the MP40, jammed less and had more ammo per mag.
SVT40 was reliable, had more rounds per mag and was semi auto so many Germans picked them up and used them.

"last resort" is stretching it pretty far dude.
