hey k this is a shout out so recently I made some home made armour out of 3 layers of .20 inch 6060 t10 aluminum and 3 layers of .20 Sheffield abrasion resistant poly carbonate along with 40 layers of aluminum oxide sandpaper and bonded it all together with a polyurethane epoxy and covered it in epoxied canvas. what do you think it can stop and who should I send it to test it as I currently am no guns due to college

1.2 inches of aluminum and plastic with a shit ton of sandpaper glued to it...

That could take .308 easily. I recommend going to a gun range and renting one and then use a stick to fire it into center mass on yourself.

eh, pretty weak but i gues it could wor-

uh?
>sand paper
What the fuck anon

are you unfamiliar with polycarbonate in thick enough layers it is used in bank telling glass to stop bullets and fragments. the abrasion resistant polycarbonate is extra hard, I'm not using normal sandpaper but nylon based fabric ones that are much stronger. the aluminum is hardened that what the t 10 is for

here is their military line of polycarbonates you can actually buy the one I am using is generally used for interrogation rooms and prisons as it provides protection against physical attack, and limited ballistic protection when used in .75inch thick applications https://www.professionalplastics.com/MakrolonAU_HardCoatedPolycarbonate

Yeah, inches upon inches of it, so think you wouldn't be able to strap it to your chest. Just ditch those and call your aluminium gettho IIIa.

Niggah, if the deformation of the aluminum isn't directed towards the energy required to generate additional dislocations and overcome their tangling energy, how is that going to slow a bullet down except through initial crack formation and deformation??? It isn't hella thick slab like in army vehicles!

Buy the 12x24 for 700 dollarydoos, cut it into a shooters cut front plate and two side plates. Then send it to be tempered. You now have the most special snowflake Slavic body armor possible. Should be at least lvIII, of not just spend more money. Who can argue with multi strike capability while being lighter than ceramic plates

Also you can buy AR500 at any welding shop

What you think you made isn't even body armor.

cough heat treated cough cough increases strength makes it less pliable though

CP2 is commercially pure and not really "heat treatable" in any sense that would be useful for armor. If he was going for armor, it would be smart to start with 6/4, which is "Grade 5", which is common for use in Ti armor plate. There are probably some other Ti alloys OP could choose from if he was feeling spendy, but other than offering lightweighting, steel armor is probably going to serve better than Ti.

Hood metallurgy lesson? In all seriousness though, are you getting at having OP find a piece with grain flow in the intended direction, or commenting on the choice of T10? I would think that the artificial age would allow for at least *some* further cold work, but idk wtf OP was thinking trying Al for a "body armor" application in the first place, unless he meant to get like 6061 T6, in which case he failed pretty miserably since you'd need a LOT more than a couple 0.20" sections

>what do you think it can stop
I don't know, it needs to be tested.

>who should I send it to test it
Do it yourself. You made it.

>I currently am no guns due to college
No excuse, if you can't figure out how to save up money to buy a rifle then you're not worth listening to. My first gun purchase was way back when I was still in college, I saved up for an M1A and I bought it.
