Here's a couple that i really enjoyed - The Road, Metro 2033, Free Fall, Pygmy, Ernest Hemingway's Complete Short Stories, Moby Dick, Sniper on the Eastern Front, A World Made by Hand. There are a lot more, but these came to mind right now.

Hatchet... my fat teacher bought it and specifically gave it to me when i told him his classes were boring as a wee child. Dunno why that book specifically but its what made me like reading about tales of survival and the like.

Guess I'd say this is my favorite, read it a couple times in Iraq and a few times since then.

Picked it up after meeting Col. Robert (Bob) Howard while he was doing a USO tour in Kuwait while we were passing through.

Those SOG guys and the shit they did is crazier than anything hollywood could ever cook up. Perhaps even bollywood.

Whenever our schedules line up right myself and my old highschool D&D group have been playing the new Curse of Strahd adventure (at a meticulously slow pace because we're adults with lives now), and I've been rereading some of my old Ravenloft books and man did I forget how much I loved them.

Those books actually inspired me to write a few Resident Evil fanfics when I was a young teen. I went back and read them all a couple years ago. Really fucking embarrassing, haha.

I'd also suggest for all y'all the McCarthy border trilogy. All The Pretty Horses was my first McCarthy read and that made me love innadesert on my family's land.

As an adult I was always a little embarrassed having read the SD Perry books when I was younger, but without them I would never have gotten into reading, and would be much dumber today.
