Post guns with best action. Also, any good innawoods loadouts for pic related?
>>
It's a Mauser. Add a sling and a bayonet and a bunch of loaded stripper clips and you're good to go.

Shot a raccoon with some Sellier & Bellot 196gr SPCE (soft point cutting edge, basically a wadcutter with a hollowpoint on top) on Saturday.
Got him in the chest and it fucking cored him out.
The exit hole was literally 2.5 fists in diameter. Wouldn't have shot him, but damnit if they don't eat my chickens and eggs.
>>
>>30426147
Stripper clips are in the mail. Any sling recommendations?
>>
>>30426293
Protip, if you can find Turkish surplus 8mm, it usually comes with brass stripper clips and nickel jacketed steel 150gr projectiles
>>
>>30426327
The Romanian surplus also comes in neat 2 piece clips.
Still junk ammo, but you have 100 clips after shooting a can
>>
>>30426345
Never liked the Romanian steel clips, I have to keep them oiled to use them in the field, which I don't find practical
Of course brass can tarnish too, but it is naturally much more slick when kept well

God, that's a beautiful gun. Are the current M48s on Classic any good? I've never had to remove Cosmoline from a rifle before and the website said "expect lots".
>>
>>30426436
Buy it, clean it, learn it, and heat does well to remove cosmo. Or invest in a rotary tumbler for the smaller parts

removing cosmoline from a surplus rifle is a sacred ritual that binds you to the rifle on a spiritual level.
seriously, not a big deal though. I enjoy removing cosmoline as you become familiar with every nook and cranny of your new rifle. They're good guns and a great deal in the current market.

>>30426390
I have an M48. Found it a local gun shop for $450.

It had a bit of a sticky bolt when using the Turkish 8mm I was given, but cycled PPU 8mm much better.

I disassembled the bolt and cleaned it as well as I could. Bolt runs a lot smoother, but I haven't tried the remaining Turkish surplus I have. To be honest, I'd rather not use corrosive ammo again.

All that being said, I love the gun. I wasn't sure about buying a non-German Mauser, but it's really nice. And the bolt is a lot smoother than my Mosin.

Just get one or two of those cheap ALICE mag pouches to store your ammo in if you go inna woods. I always found the bandolier the Turk ammo comes with to get snagged on the projectiles when trying to remove them. Maybe get a decelerator and sling for it. You can find cheap leather slings on ctd for like 14$

Thanks. $290 shipped to me because I have a C&R. Many parts are mismatched, the safety is modified and it's kinda eh, but the bore is amazing and wood is pretty good. I wanted a "sniper" looking Mauser without paying sniper prices because I absolutely love the 8mm Mauser round.

I want to get a Turk Mauser for no particular reason but I haven't brought myself to buy one yet.

Post guns with the best action, you say?
Well alright then.

Anyways, can anyone tell me how to figure out the date on an M48?
It has a 44 on the side and what appears to be a mark for an artillery regiment...
>>
>>30427090
yeah, I have a chart of production dates based on serial numbers. First thing you need to identify though is whether its a m48, m48a, m48b, or m48bo.
>>
>>30427104
And the method for Doug that would be...?
Judging by the crest above for the M48a I would assume the crest would say, correct?
>>
>>30427127
alright, is the trigger guard milled or stamped? You'll be able to tell by looking for a rib that follows along it not 1mm inward. Is the H band welded together or milled? Is the magazine floorplate milled or stamped?
>>
>>30427166
No rib or weld marks, and the floor plate is milled.
It's marked "M48" on the top of the chamber.
>>
>>30427054
I'd appreciate it. I'm still kind of new to guns; I only know that it says M48 on the receiver.

M48 Yugo. Came with a Bushnel 6x32 attached. No iron sights unfortunately, since I ended up wasting a bunch of ammo just sighting it in the first time.
>>
>>30427337
The chart is confusing to read because it doesn't get into detail but if you have an actual 'M48' and not any of its derivatives, then I reckon it's a first year production due to the fact that it hit ~92,000 units the first year according to Zastava. Does your rifle have a beech or elm wood stock?
>>
>>30427367
Beech.
>>
>>30427276
Just an old Weaver K4 60-B, 4x magnification. No issues with it so far so it'll probably stay on there unless I decide to go with a more powerful optic.
>>
>>30427376
Alright, so I have this idea - the later m48a and m48b rifles are almost always stocked in elm. The reason they did so was to cut cost along with stamping the rifles right? Well if it has a beechwood stock, then it must have existed before the cost cutting operations and because it's in the 80,000 range then we can safely assume its a 1951 rifle.

Not the guy you responded to but. I speak Croatian and have easier access to geezers in Croatia and Bosnia. Zrak scopes and Zrak mounts are obscenely expensive. You're looking at $500 package deal. It's only slightly less expensive if you're in Croatia/Bosnia. To take this further, I attempted to talk to the actual factory in Bosnia to see if I can import that shit into the states as they are quality optics. As it turns out they are only dealing with some Pennsylvanian fuck up who never answers his emails and who's perpetually out of stock .

Bought this fr8 recently. I really don't like mausers but I've always thought these looked cool and they fire .308 so I had to have it. Problem is, it doesn't always like to feed, probably because of the shorter case. I put 40 rounds through it and there were probably 5 times it didn't feed. I'm going to hang on to it for a bit but at the price I paid I know I can sell it and make an easy profit if I get frustrated.

The real OG Mauser, 1889 Belgian mauser in 7.65x53 argentine, one of the first rimless cartridge firing rifles and first to use stripper clips. Also it held back the Germans long enough in ww1 to allow the French and Brits to reinforce the flanks and help the Belgians to hang to a tiny part of their country through the whole war.

They are intermediate-length (7-5/8" between action bolts) Mauser 98 actions, based on the pre-WW2 FN-Herstal M1924 rifle as used by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia from 1928 until the German occupation of 1941. It takes a couple features from the German Kar.98k: the hooded front sight, side-mounted sling through a slot in the stock, and cupped buttplate. They were made from 1950-1965 by the Military Technical Institute at Kragujevac, Serbia, which today is known as Crvena Zastava. Each rifle has the crest of the People's Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on the receiver ring, the model designation below, and the manufacturing factory code on the left receiver wall. There are three major and one minor variations. The M48 features all-milled metal parts, and was only in production for a couple years. In 1953 the M48A was introduced, which featured a stamped-steel magazine floorplate. In 1956 even more stamped parts were substituted, including the triggerguard/magazine and buttplate. Confusingly, the M48B is still marked as "M48A" on the crest, so the only way to tell them apart is to compare which parts are made of stampings. The last variation is the "M48BO" "BO" stands for "bez oznake" which means "without markings". These rifles do not have the crest of Yugoslavia on the receiver ring or any model designation, and were meant for export to other countries where they would be appropriately marked. Egypt and Syria were known purchasers of M48 rifles. "BO" rifles have been noted with varying degrees of stamped parts; some are all-milled construction.

how does one tell the difference between milled and stamped metal?
>>
>>30435543
Milled metal will have tooling marks visible on surfaces that are usually concealed from view beneath the wood, or for instance on the inner surface of the floorplate. These are from the mill head cutting the steel away. Stamped parts will generally be of a more uniform thickness, and you will see evidence of welding to join more complex parts together.

Awesome, thanks for the write up bud. What then is a decent price range for them? For example, would the $300 for a "B1" grade like they have at AIM right now be considered a good deal?

All matching?
>>

How'd I do?

>>

no its flat. Apparently the BO's were made for the Suez crises and unstamped because Yugoslavia didn't want the guns being traced back to them.

Federal 170 grain soft points. The blacktail here are basically slightly bigger than a black lab with longer legs and antlers.

been thinking about buying one recently to scratch that WWII itch, so earlier today I went to a LGS for one that my boss saw a few days ago. They had a very clean '44 ar (Mauser-Werke, Berlin), with only a different floorplate. Never shot since the war after being captured in Italy and sent back and stashed away in an attic. Had paperwork proving this. However, they asked for $2200. So instead I went to a guy up the road who sells out of his basement for very agreeable prices and had more inventory. He had a cosmolined German one with E. German stamp and a few Yugos for 300-400, buuuut instead went with a CZ Skorpion Evo for 800. (not anything close i know, but I always wanted one and the price and availability was on point my nigga).

Was it worth /k/? I found German K98k's for much less than half that on gunbroker and other sites, but decidely not as clean.

Outta the way. Swedes incoming.
I think it's pretty cool that even a condition 3 Swedish Mauser from 1902 has a better barrel than my Russian shit from the 50s
Yugoslavia are also in good shape, but the stocks are a little chunky and rough
The nazi one is smoothest, but I still like the swede best.
Next purchase will be either and argentine 1891 or swede m38. Anyone have a preference?
