People just need to shoot more and make sure their grip is correct, frankly. I went from shooting an XD 9mm to a Glock 27 (baby Glock in .40) and was expecting a ton of noticeable snap... which never materialized.

I will give you, HK did design the USP in .40 first and Glock, the most well-known well-shot .40, did really screw the pooch. I don't need to spend upwards of $800, however, to REEEEALLY experience .40 when 9 and .45 exist. I just do not. Also, there is clear differences between the pistol caliber recoils, dude to pressure and loading, and however you describe it, I, personally, find .40 to be less preferable than the others.

Of course .357 offers more punch, of course 10mm is a magnum round, practically, but between the big 3, the performance difference is negligible, ballistically, in actual performance and killing potential.

The real advantages come to capacity and subsonic loading. 9mm gets almost 1.5x the capacity for a 1.1x difference in performance from .45, so if you want more gun, go 9mm. It's cheaper, too. If you want a great suppressor host? Go .45. Almost all subsonic with little loss in performance, compared to 9mm subsonic. .40 doesn't have much of a niche anymore, aside from "Being stocked during a panic," and that's why everyone's dumping it.

But that's like, my opinion, man.

Speaking of which, I love 1911s but it's all a matter of preference. Yeager makes it such a douchey imperative, though. There's more effective options, but come on.

I tried a .40 last year for a hundred rounds or so and honestly couldn't tell a significant difference between the overall impact of the recoil impulse or shooting experience except that the magazine ran dry faster.
