Figured this would be the place to ask, can anyone recommend a riser height or optic that'll work properly on a sig 556 with the regular rotary sights and thick front hood? I know eotechs work, but I'd rather just get a red dot or prism sight for it. I've measured it and assumed a half inch riser would work, but figured I'd see if I missed any options.

I've been wearing the same make of jacket for 5 years, so that pretty well speaks for itself. It's not to warm that it's unusable in the spring, but paired with a sweater I'll wear it in -25 weather. Soft shell so it's good in light rain.

I'm a bit drunk, so bear with me, I'm getting all philosphical an' shit here. Bear with me too, since by no means do I dislike sperging about gear. I love the autism as much as every other regular who keeps coming back here. I just want to reality check that while gear is important, it is just their to be at the disposal of the user, not wholly replace them in terms of skill. I say this because, ya know /k/ lately has been about "expensive gear = more operating" and it's kinda like, after a certain point the expensive gear is nothing more than a show of more conspicuous income than it is enhancing skills.

Between that and people having a lot of ideas that their way is the only right way to carry gear, it just bugs me. Cause you know, there are definately *wrong* ways to set up gear, but when it comes to doing it right, their is no universal solution.

Anyway, just to say that gear is only as operator as the people using it. Much the same way sexy clothes only work if the person is alrerady attractive.

Train with your pistols and train for defense and physicality at close range if you're a civilian, because in the unlikely event of being in a gunfight, it will be a suprise close range self defense situation not one where you are geared up in camo or chest rigs.

Aight. Not being a buzzkill or nothin'. Old content pic of my backup to backup kit.
>>
>>30404156
for me, the brads are the support by fire, so not a lot of 240 training, although we have some sexy ass 240L in the safe. they're short barrel and really cool. >>30404306
my plates are a bit small, so i had to add a little cardboard to fill it. there's enough stretch in the plate pocket to accommodate you.

why do you want the STT. It's not a BAD carrier, but it has some big buts that go with it.
>>

>>30404472
I find nothing to disagree about.
>>
>>30404564
that's what i did, but you have to understand thats like $80 on top of the base price of the carrier. so the STT isn't a budget option. it might be in comparison to other first spear products, but in the current market, there's a lot of good stuff near $280

and tubes is great, but if you go the tubes route, understand you won't be able to mount as much equipment on your sides because the tubes occupy prime molle estate and you might have to change how you shoulder your weapon. if you want "full kit" and tubes, you gotta rock a battle belt to, and that's an easy $100-200

>$140 for a spring

Last one for the night

https://youtu.be/vEjhP2dyrZE

>>30405390
I mean the description says it all:
>Compared to the stock spring, The Geissele Super 42 Spring has a decreased tendency to lose length and force over a given round count. As an added bonus, it removes the annoying spring reverberations (twang) heard and felt by the shooter through the buttstock. The Super 42 Spring has a 15% stronger average return force than the standard buffer spring. This will assist in stripping rounds out of the magazine when operating with a dirty weapon or when using steel-case ammo

I'll admit the ridiculous amount of springs, pins, and detents that could break in at AR kinda bothers me...I'd shell out for peace of mind

>>
>>30405375
If you dont want to buy lvl iv plates, skip plate carriers. You shooting and skill will always be more important at keeping you alive.

So, start from the best.
I like my tyr belt. I strongly recommend buying the outer and immer belt, $150

Tacos are good universal pouches, but for ar15 exclusivley im loving the pig bombers, and usgi double mag pouches are actually decent. They're cheap, good retention, even if used as single mags. Dump pouch to me is essential, i have a tac tailor. For the ifak i like tyr tactical. And thats my belt.

>>
>>30408278

Has anyone in the history of swat had to shoot 270 rounds from their AR?

I never understood why they make you guys carry so many mags
>>
>>30408309
I personally don't buy it. Too many cops whining about how uncomfortable the armor is, but getting shot to death is a lot less comfortable. If your job is to roll to the target building in a bearcat, the weight is a complete non-factor.

I would also say, test how weight affects your performance. Go to a track and do a 100yd sprint with plates in, rest, and do another with plates + soft armor. I bet you the 4-5 lbs doesn't change as much as you think, especially considering that you aren't sprinting through buildings on entries, you're moving at a tactically appropriate pace.

My biggest pet peeve is overweight officers complaining about how heavy armor is. Don't trade ballistic protection for lightness, trade in your fucking ice cream and donuts.

>>30408345
Mags weigh very little all things considered. Cheap insurance, especially if the balloon goes up and you need to handle a terrorist attack or something of that sort.

Sands are the rarest of rare when it comes to Crye gear. They're literally AC style pants in a yellowish tan color scheme which were available on their website for purchase. Crye discontinued them earlier than the rest of the AC uniform sets for some reason.

Part of reason of why you see them going for 900+ a set is because someone posted a couple pictures way back which showed some alleged SEAL team/ DEVGRU members wearing some sand uniforms.

I've seen some manufacturers make repros, but they don't even come close to the unique yellowish tan color the AC sands have.

I use one because my choices are a little limited in Canada. Also keep in mind everything is inflated in Canada compared to the states. By no means is the VZ better that the AK or AR but if it had more notoriety and after market support i think it would be competitive.
Pros include.

>Stripper Clip guide
>Lighter than typical AK
>Typically more accurate than a AK

Buy a Chink type 81 rig or a PIG UCR and make sure you have a good holster for your sidearm.

Don't go and buy a bunch of gear before you know what you need/want.

Socks: I may just be weird, but the Pistil wool/nylon blend 'everyday' socks have treated me perfectly.

https://www.rei.com/product/892864/pistil-everyday-merino-crew-socks-mens

I've also worn plenty of other socks and never had much of a problem. The key is hygiene. Switch socks out, make sure you have a good fit, and keep your feet dry as much as possible. It also doesn't hurt to keep your socks washed in the field; even when you have very low resources, something as simple as a stuffsack, some heated water, and some grated up soap will do in a pinch as a ghetto wash for your underclothes. Rinse after with plain water. You can do a couple of pairs of socks with just one water bottle. Washing them this way will allow them to be reworn if needed and seriously extend your ability to wear clothes hygienically.

>implying I don't use this shit for work
Some of us actually have jobs that require weapons and body armor and our issued shit is either non existent or blows.

I just spent a lot of time and money figuring out what works and ended up with a surplus of gear.

Keep being a jellyfish.

Give reasons. What makes firstspear worth 500 but not USGI
>>
>>30420432
Not him but: IOTVs have a terrible quick release system. It is overly complicated, the tab is in an annoying place, and it has a tendency to stick out way to far making it a danger to snag and cause your whole vest to fall apart.

The outer cumberbund material is far too stiff, making it a pain in the ass.

The center cover for the cumberbund is weirdly cut with a curve to it, making it a pain in the ass to mount pouches there. Between that and the overall bulk of the GI soft armor, it is very difficult to mount pouches at all.

If you want a full armor vest, the Eagle CIRAS does everything the IOTV tried to do, except the CIRAs doesn't suck ass, and usually has thinner saferiland soft armor in it.

I've worn both vests for the military and have had some time in them.

CIRAS is bulky though, compared to more recent plate carriers
>>
>>30420795
Of course it is, it has full soft armor coverage. Plate carriers generally just have plates. They have different priorities.

If somebody wanted to buy an IOTV, I'd assume they wanted full soft coverage and recommend a CIRAS, as it does the same job but better. A plate carrier serves a different purpose.

What would be a good chest rig setup if I was running an sks with stripper clips? I've just been throwing the clips in my pockets but something with pouches would be tight. Also what are some good things to put in small pouches besides the stripper clips? I'm also using a glock19

Does anyone else own the Armour wear level IV plates? I have the mutlicurves and need a good carrier that will fit them. I was thinking Banshee but didn't know if there were other options for a plate shaped like this since it isn't an exact SAPI shape.

As an aside, has anyone ever heard of these people?

>>
>>30421580
Oh dude awesome, can you snap a pic? The carrier I had has the cropped corners and because they don'e match the plate it forces the plate to ride like 2" low. It's a decent plate its just I need to find a carrier that will fit without a big air pocket inside rubbing under my chin.
>>
the only thing that gives me doubt over the Grey Ghost is the velcro shoulder straps. i dont see how that can hold the weight of say steel plates while running around.
>>
>>30421454
No, this mad bastard went and built himself a PC out of a duffel bag, FLC waistband, and USGI 6-mag bandoleer.

Shit's not pretty, but he's assembled a decent PC out of shit that I'd find laying around my room.

The polymer loop almost certainly has some teeth on it which causes the strap to tighten in there and do most of the loadbearing instead of the Velcro.

Where do you all get plates? I'm wanting ceramics cause weight and shit but don't want to blow money out of my ass for them someone posted a link to a website that had some for like 172 a plate or something. Also would buying dummy plates to help with fitting be a bad thing? I like plate carriers so I'll probably buy a couple more for shigs and gigs so I'd actually use them more than once. If it's any consolation a few of us in this thread including McNig use Emearsons. They're knock offs yeah but they get the job done. Just bring away any loose threads and for the love of Christ replace those shitty knee pads that come with them with some Crye airflex"s.
>>
>>30422513
I'm not sure either way. I've owned both too, but can't really tell much of a difference. Both have nice stitching and all, but my local surplus store has propper brand stuff for good prices, for brick and mortar store that is, so I go there and buy stuff in person after trying them on to make sure they fit. They have some truspec stuff but just their 24/7 line and only in a few solid colors. Plus propper uniforms are supplied to the u.s. military so it's good enough for me.
