Goes over a helmet to stop it looking like a helmet. Also because it shifts around and different people wear it differently, it makes it hard to tell where your head is.

I'm not gonna doubt the Israelis on it, they've been using it since 1994. Personally i love how goofy it is.

Depends on what you want to do with it. At the very least you'll need a fabric printing place that does digital printing, and it willing to do a small amount (each karst parka was around 3M of fabric for example).

If you can sew yourself, or have someone in the family that can then great! Otherwise you'll need a uniform/jacket/whatever cut pattern from somewhere. I'm sure a basic BDU pattern must exist and be easy to get hold of, but for anything else you'd probably need to buy a cut pattern or have someone copy an existing garment. Don;t forget you need to source everything for it too, zips, buttons, lining if any and so on.
>>
So how do you guys hold up your NVA trousers without suspenders? These things are comfy as fug and I want to wear them like jeans but they're broad and keep falling off my ass.
>>
>>30403030
I would imagine so. They were most likely not issued to all troops based off their rarity. Also, they totally make clothes under it useless so it was probably used for specific roles.

>>30403109
You get suspenders.
>>
>>30403091
Not worried about sewing and patterns, got that on lockdown. Don't need zippers either, and for a liner I was just going to use a M65 liner if I really needed one, and sew it into place to make a nice winter coat.

Any good online fabric printing places?

Check the pattern repeats cleanly first, you might have to make it into a PDF so they can work with it. I don't know where you are in the world, so you'd have to search around yourself.
It took me three attempts to get the pattern right, so get just 1M samples done, even if they are grossly expensive.

I should clarify, samples until you're happy with the pattern, then go nuts.

You'll have to make your own judgement on what fabric you want. Digital printing onto a 50/50 mix reliable has become a thing only very recently, worth seeing about places that can do that.

I'm back from vacation and had this waiting for me. Despite being a 120cm chest it fits me pretty well.

Stopped at a surplus shop where I was at, the guy had a few interesting things. Is a good condition paddyflage shirt worth $40?

He also had a sumpfmuster parka with the liner but the condition was so nice I was sure it was a repro. Is there any chance of finding one of those not faded in lightly used condition? A bit of scraping on the buttons is all.

So is it any use other than fashion? I've seen it floating around other boards (/fa/), and got interested in its use as actual camouflage. It seems too distinct to work anywhere but where it was specifically designed for, but then again if UCP found somewhere it was effective anything can be camouflage.

No you wouldn't. Get the smallest and when a package comes in you'll find a key in your box. There are larger boxes that are used for temporary boxes. Open your little one take the key open the big one get your box and the key back in your little box. If they don't have any of the temporary boxes there'll be a slip of paper you take to the counter and the clerk will hand you your box.

The leg pocket is for an Israeli bandage (others like the ever-so-prevalent Swedish ones simply won't fit); we had to carry those things around everywhere except for the parade square.

It badly hurts aesthetics though, causing the left trouser leg to hang low while the other one rides high.

Trade in?

My history teacher in my senior year of high school was West German, he went to a few battlefields and went metal-detecting, brought in a bunch of shrapnel, casings, a spade, some various mess kit pieces, and a M1916 helmet he dug up in Europe and showed the class during our World War lessons.
I'd love to do that, but I don't know how difficult it would be to bring that stuff back to the US. I love watching those videos of guys digging up helmets and weapons and stuff.
>>
>>30414434
What is the legality of doing that anyway?
>>
>>30414471

I have no idea honestly.
I'd imagine like web gear and helmets would be fine, back in the day my teacher said when he went through airport security they asked him about it, he just said he had a helmet and a shovel head and random bits he dug up and that he was a history buff and they waved him through.
I can't imagine there being much fuss about it even today as long as it's not in your carryon, but I do think you need to check with whoever's property you dug in and the local police to verify they let you do it and that they let you keep that stuff and that it's not contraband.
I don't know about shells or casings but I'm pretty sure they won't let you take back a Stg-44 receiver.

Yarp it's all vinyl. That means it can't just be wet, but it has to be cold as well. This thing has literally zero breathability. I got the set for $10 and I've never seen another one.

>>30415007
Montana. This one is invite only, though.

I kinda know the guys that are doing this in Romania. So basically we could do a Metal Detecting Fest right here. But of course, Poland and the Baltics would be much more productive.

>>30415081
The meetup spot is at Trench's house, so he doesn't want any randoms. Surpfest 2.0 will hopefully be much more open.

Does that have hood provisions? Or was that the parka version?
>>
>>30415104
That's the disadvantage of meeting in the middle of nowhere.
>>
>>30415104
Is surpfest gonna be anywhere remotely near Florida? I'd love to come play in a full ratnik set for a day but it's gotta be driveable
>tfw you don't even have the money to buy food because you spent so much of surp and equipment
>>
>>30415135
It'll either be here again or PA
>>
>>30415149
My family literally just ended yearly meets in PA. Why is life so suffering?
>>
>>30415118
Nope. It could be the parka version, it was listed as a small. It fits me fine because it was meant as an over coat.

>>30415135
Hoping for PA. There's three surpians in that state alone.
>>
>>30415185
Any idea what the dates will be? There's still a slim chance for PA family and if it's close I'd at least try to hop in for a day

1.5 will probably be around thanksgiving

>>
>>30415316
Surpfest 1.0 is happening in a few weeks. Surpfest 1.5 will be the next one. It could be in Montana, PA, or Europe at any time of the year. We won't keep it a secret, though. So come back every once in a while for more info.
>>
>>30415360
I'm always here, gotta look at stuff to keep myself satiated till I get paid and buy a 6B47 helmet, 6B34 goggles, and the balaclava.

Off (on) topic question, you ever seen a Ukranian border guard uniform? Was looking to pick one up myself but they're 90 bucks

>>

Well the parka version was like knee length, unless yours was tailored?

>>30415425

Gifts from vets are some of the most amazing things. A friend of mine who just got back from Iraq got a M1 helmet from a 'nam vet when he was a kid, heavily graffitied from his time over there.
>>
>>30415572
I don't think so, though it wouldn't be that complicated to tailor it.
>>
>>30415572
Before I left for my first tour my Uncle a Vietnam vet gave me his knife that he carried over there. I wore it on missions in Iraq.

Sportsmans used to have tons

Some had hoods and liners as well

>>30415722

That's awesome. Nice to see things carry on.
>>
>>30415529
I know a few places, I'll keep my eyes open. It'll be cheaper than $90 if I find one, I promise.

email me just so I don't forget about you

>>
>>30415797
Huh, I think mine was tailored. It's the exact same cut as your picture, just shorter. It's literally just a piece of vinyl so it makes sense that it looks so well done. No big deal, I like it better as a jacket. If I want something long I can just use the poncho.
>>
>>30415185
Is this where you got it from?

Would you recommend it? Other then the breathability issues, how's the build quality? Does it feel flimsy?

$100 shipped and it came with the pants.
>>

Though, mine doesn't have that snap right in the middle of the neck.

>>30415911
Yup! It's built like a tank, just like regular Swiss surp. It's definitely worth the $10. If you're any bigger than me (5' 11", 38" chest), I don't think it would fit.

Does it have provisions for a liner?

I never paid much attention to them so I forgot what the liners looked like other than they were black.
>>
>>30416054
Maybe? There's a cinch cord in the jacket that appears to have two female snap ends. I don't see any other locations for a liner to affix.

Late reply but for that reason of similarity the Irish prefer to be called the Defense Forces of Ireland.

Also the Israeli Orlite helmets are fairly obtainable if you ever consider doing Israeli style photo shoots.
I actually got mine from a movie memorabilia store, it was a surplus one used as a prop for World War Z.

Fun Fact: The Irish use them too, if you ever find a paddyflage helmet cover.

Not that different from other naval uniforms, seeing as damn near everyone copies the same old Britbong style.
The only noteworthy aspect is the color; being derived from old Russian/Soviet shit, the Estonian navy uniform is black instead of dark blue.
