What branch of service is the modern-day Cavalry in terms of either:
1. Combat Role
or
2. Dash and Flair
>>30382829
the kings royal hussars do both

In terms of combat role, probably Tankers for heavy cavalry and Mechanized Infantry for light cavalry.
In terms of dash, there are many, many "Cav" units still around that keep the traditions alive (i.e. the stupid Spur Rides the US Army has)
>>30382829
none of the above.
let's say it's like this:
19D: doing what drones do today, except they did it in the 1980s.
tankers: doing god's work in infantry support and cross-border warfighting, except kursk will never happen again.

Goddamn, after 2 Gulf Wars I'd forgotten how fucking good the Abrams looked in Woodland.

An Abrams' natural environment is a dark, snow covered forest.

Tbh the potential of cavalry on the modern battlefield always interested me. I read about Soviet cavalry units in WW2 that would basically act as light infantry, basically be able to head through areas too dense/rugged for vehicles, but faster than you could on foot. When there was trouble they dismounted. Horses really seem like the ultimate guerrilla tool.

They're great backups for terrain where human civilization isn't well established.
Otherwise, you're better off with a light vehicle, mate
>>30382829
in the US Army it's Cav Scouts and Tankers

But Anon horses are Big Boss approved.

Like I said, great backups for terrain where human civilization isn't well established.
