don't price a daniel defense rail.... you'll be mad as hell, also their weights are ridiculous.

an alternative to the noveske NSR is the erathr3 mlok rail. i'm fairly certain the same people make both. they're VERY similar rails

there's 3 rails in that NSR style all made by the same company i think. they're called stubborn mule (SMOS)

Either way, most barrels aren't parkerized though. They're either melonited (QPQ) or nitrided.

And yes, while those CAN rust, if you abuse them long and hard enough, it's literally a non-issue unless you're storing your rifle, long-term, somewhere >80% humidity and everything else steel on the gun has rusted already.

>>
>>30375587
Only the past few years has nitriding really picked up steam for ARs. Plenty of companies still doing it the "old" way especially considering chrome lining is still more durable and parking the exterior of the barrel is still the mil spec.

This is true for M4gery barrels, as it's milspec. The "good" barrel makers are getting away from it though, due to a combination of other finishes being cheaper and more durable.

yeah the E3 rail looks better than the NSR in my opinion. i dont like monolithic top rails and E3 cuts the top rail out for most of the length of the handguard. too bad they don't make a 7 inch. also NSR/SMOS/E3 rails use an indexing pin to keep them from rotating, which requires an upper with the corresponding pin hole or you have to drill your own or go without the pin (it's removable)

I already have one of those, I just can't seem to put a light where I want them. I put an Inforce WML on the right side, then I put the rifle on top of it and when I take it out to shoot the Inforce WML cracked. Inforce tried to say it was my fault but they ended up covering the cost of a new one after I talked with American Express about their warranty. Thing is it might have been my fault because the gun was on the right side, which is why I want the light to be on the top right in front of the sights.

I thought I asked this the other day but I couldn't find a response.

If it is just for funsies you can go plenty short. I have a 7.5" 5.56 on my SBR for a while that was a riot for concussion and fireballs, but went up to 10.3" for suppressed use.

I still have an 8" 300blk that scratches that "barrel ends at a carbine handguard length" itch.

I've been thinking.

Although larue makes good shit, a 556 chamber with factory ammo isn't gonna give me the accuracy I want at 400 yards.
I think I really need a 223wylde chamber and a thicker profile barrel

What are my options?
Larue doesn't have 223 and BA is nearly sold out of 18" stuff

I don't want to end up with a shit barrel considering one of the primary components of an SPR is the barrel...

What do?

Is there any difference in price for attachments that are Mlok vs Keymod compatible? Or is it all screw a picatinny onto it and attach it to that?
Buying a new upper and I'm not sure which rail system to get.
Also, is this a good upper to get if you want something that's not trash for under $500?

I'll be getting the black 12" handguards either way.

Quad rails generally weigh significantly more than mlol and dickmod.

So naturally if the shooter is concerned at all with weight, a quad rail is not the most logical choice.

Also, saying "a hollow aluminum tube" is an arbitrary term, as "a hollow aluminum tube" could be 2" long and 20' long and saying if it is heavy or not would be relative, wouldn't it?

Let's not throw that inferior word around. I have seen plenty of rail attachments come loose from a rail and thankfully they are tied down to the rail or else they would have been lost. MLOK and key mod rail sections are just another point of potential failure when it comes to the attachment coming off the rifle.

You'd have to remove the already installed gas block (fairly easy) and install the A2 FSB in its place. Or you can just leave the gas block alone and get an iron that mounts on to the picitinny rails on the gas block.

okay so I'm about to get my first ar and I was wondering which method would be the cheapest. I want to buy from PSA cause I'm local to them.

First, just buy the cheapest ar from
Second, get a lower and a rifle build kit
third, go into the store and buy all the parts to build the ar I want.

pic related is what I want, just a plane ar with magpul furniture on it
>>
>>30378071
So buy PSA's cheapest complete lower and cheapest complete upper and slap then together. Don't get PTAC, buy from their Freedom line of products

http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-midlength-5-56-nato-1-8-stainless-steel-moe-freedom-heavy-rifle-kit.html

You can get this and then buy a $50 lower and a $99 BCG and be done with it for like $600

Red Dots are awesome for taking shots at under 200 yards.

You can still hit man sizes targets on the fly at 300, but it starts getting difficult, because of the lack of magnification at 400.

>inb4 but I shoot Red dots at 500 meters!

At a prepared target.

As far as mounts, if you buy from Primary Arms you'll see a tab in the same page as the optic that lets you order a mount with it.

I'd recommend ADM, on an absolute co witness setup.

Some people prefer 1/3rd but I found the functionality of having the same point of aim for my irons and red dot to be nice.

>>30378110

There's a .pdf floating around arfcom and 6mmBR that has like 200 targets in it. If you can print cheaply (I have a cheapo Brother all-in-one laser printer so targets are like 4c/ea) that's the way to go.

I normally shoot at the >>30379154

Buying snowflake ammunition that underperformes when compared to other tested platforms with shorter barrels, literally the most expensive aftermarket with very little aftermarket to boot, and to actually sbr the damn things would have cost what the rifle was worth at the time.

It is plagued by people who overpay for shit like gen one trigger packs and factory white dot optics. It has an absurd trigger and knowing it will never have an auto search is just icing on the cake.

Was it fun? Yeah, it was pretty fun, everyone wanted to shoot it and the Five seven pistol. It was a neat conversation piece after the range but outside of that, it reeks of stagnant development that FN is just cashing in on because 5.7 fanboys are LITERALLY rabid animals anytime it's brought up.

For the money, a real serviceable, modifiable and cheaper pdw is the way to go, no matter how many wound vectors 5.7 claims to have.

Also, let's compare apples to apples, here's a spessjew gun compared to a ps90.

Why would you even bother with the ps90 in 2016?

More like "stop liking what every hunter, precison shooter, and tactical carbine shooter in the entire world doesn't like".

2-stage triggers serve a purpose, but that purpose is not precision. It's to keep scared, half-trained conscripts from having ND's through a heavy first stage and an even heavier second stage. They SUCK for precision shooting because they've got long pulls and 2 different pull weights, and they SUCK for fast shooting because they've got long pulls and a long reset.

Unfortunately, most modern semi's are designed after "muh milspec" and milspec is a shitty 2-stage trigger.

Unless you're a half-trained conscript, there is literally no reason to use a 2-stage trigger in a rifle that has good single stage triggers available.

I have both of those triggers, the Timney is vastly superior as a single stage trigger in the traditional sense. The SD3G is a rolling mushy break ment to help build rhythm for speed, but it lacks the sharp sear release of a good single stage if that is what you are looking for.
