I'm going to turn 21 in a few months and I want a pistol that can be a good range gun/ self defense/ carry pistol. All the gun store employees recommend a glock 19 fits that description. Would you guys agree?

No.
Try out a bunch of different guns, buy what YOU like. If they're the same dimensions and caliber they'll pretty much shoot the same.
Gun stores always shill for glock 19 because they ordered too many and need to get rid of them fast.
Get what you like.

Glock 19 is great for all those things and reasonably priced. If you buy one you will likely never be disappointing in the purchase. However.
>Try out a bunch of different guns
is good advice. You might find something you like more, especially in terms of ergonomics and controls.

No reason to buy anything buy a G19 or 17 for first pistol. Buy a dremel and wood burner for grip

t. G20 first pistol

I would recommend it as a first handgun since they are pretty simple to do a complete disassembly/reassembly. Trying other guns out is good advice. I personally like the M&P ergonomics more, and they can be had for around the same price as a glock.

Don't do this.

This. There is no such thing as a good stipplejob.

Op here, I've held am XD, Smith & Wesson shield, and the fns. Honestly they are all around the same price and the glock and the fns are my favorite so far as aesthetics and ergonomics. I guess I should add that I'm 6'3 and 200 pounds so the smaller guns don't feel great in my hands. I dress with loose clothing so I think I can carry a full size pistol with the right holster.

\you should try single action pistols like the FNX, SIG SP2022, and CZ P-07.

I've never fired any of them, but I'm pretty sure they're the same type of trigger as a 1911.

Sup OP,

I had been eyeballing and fingerfucking Glocks for the past year (along with other strikers) to find the first pistol I wanted to purchase, and I was dead set on a Glock 17.

I'm pretty much the same build as you, add 10 lbs. and when I walked into the fun store, I decided to give one more a chance - the M&P Shield. I don't know what it was, but as soon as I held it (I had before as well) I just knew I needed to get it.

On the ones that you've held, did it have the 8 or 7 round mag in it? Big difference in ergonomics with that extra little bit.

I still want a Glock, but I think that the M&P fits me a bit better, but I also dress a little skinnier fit so I needed something really low profile. You should go in once more and ask if you can try holstering and see if it prints. Depending on your store they might let you, might not.

I think the best word to describe a Glock 19 is "adequate". It'll do what you're wanting to do, but if you do your homework and try out other guns, you'll probably find something more suited to exactly what you're wanting to accomplish.

I would agree, however I think that there are better choices. My first pistol was a CZ P-01, and the only area I think it doesn't beat the G19 in would be CCW. The glock is slightly easier for me to hide.
