we kind of were, 4th largest Airforce and 4th Largest Navy after WW2 is no small feat. During the Cold war we cut back and after the wall fell we cut even more. Still one of the most well trained soldiers in the world.

We had a sizable army after WW2 (4th largest remaining). But we just didnt have the population and economy to support an arms buildup like the Burgers and Ruskies throughout the cold war.

Maybe we could have been a naval power, and it probably would have been a good idea considering how much coastline Canada has, but being a land power would be kind of useless when our only neighbors are the 'Muricans.

You want to know what social studies in Canada looks like, from about 4th grade all the way to my high school graduation basically 90% of it was literally just "muh residential school, white men were so evil." We had one, fucking one, class in grade 11 I think that devoted maybe one month to Canadian WW1 history, one in grade 12 that covered WW2, and a handful of absolute joke geography classes, just about everything else was natives this, natives that, those evil white nuns raping poor residential school boys and it's basically your fault.

Canada can only really have an army if the US has large control over it - which it does now. Either directly, or indirectly by having Canada rely on the US for procurement, maintenence, etc
