So I plan on purchasing my first gun soon, but I can't decide whether I should go with a shotgun or a handgun. I'll mostly be using it shooting targets at the range, but I also want something that will serve me well in the event of a happening. What do you guys think?

By the way, the shotgun I'm looking at is a Mossberg 500 SP, and the handgun a ATIGFX45MIL (pic related).

I'd do a handgun personally. ATI might be identical to RIA's, but I'd still do a RIA 1911, and you may want to do the 'tactical' version where it has nicer sights (and a better dovetail cut for more replacement sight options) as well as a beavertail grip safety

I was looking at RIA, but I'm trying to keep it at around $400, and the tactical RIA's seem to be closer to $500.

Mossbergs are GOAT, but shotguns are expensive to shoot.

A handgun will be cheap to practice with, and serve you very well during a happening (concealable, handy, plentiful ammunition, lethal).

Don't know anything about ATIs tho.

Yeah, I was leaning a little closer to a handgun. But with the other anon's suggestion, I started looking more into RIA. I found this one that's about $40 more, but it seems pretty similar to the ATI. I guess now it's just a decision between these two.

get the pistol, nobody shoots shotgun at the range unless you are function testing a new gun or pattern testing your duck gun. Tactical shotguns are meant for collecting dust in a closet until needed, or shooting up old junk out in the woods.

As for a plain poorfag 1911, check out the tisas. I don't have one but they seem to have good reviews. if I were to redo my collection that would be my first purchase, at least if I wasn't willing to spend double for a Colt.

>>30351601
Skip it and go right to an AR
>>
>>30352132
I have no idea about the customer service of ATI, but RIA will be good to you if you do have any issues (doubt you would)

RIA are better, not hte best fit and finish but they been making 1911's for so long they know what they are doing and they make series 70 so it

only downside is RIA do not have the best finish on them and the triggers are little clunky but I love mine
>>
>>30351960
pretty sure bulk 12ga is cheaper than bulk .45

at least in my area it is

>>30351960
mossbergs are good, not goat.

>>30351601
mossberg 500s are good, but i'd recommend the field combo if you plan to use it for anything other than security and 3gun competition. you can shoot slugs through the CB security barrel but you won't get any reach with pellets

>>30352146
>nobody shoots shotguns at the range
what are clays

>>30352153
correct; get a simple palmetto kit and some pmags
